Being at this school is one of the most unique experiences you will ever have. The academics are rigorous and challenging but so are the arts. The teacher care about their students success and expect us the care even more. Their are many opportunities to perform and see other performances. I have benefited a lot from this program but it is not for everybody. Not having sports is something that bothers many of us but we stick through because its so worth it. Once you've been there for a while you feel like everyone is your family because of the small population. Dekalb School of the Arts is a program that challenges you while feeding your love and appreciation of the arts. That is something you could never get at another school.
DeKalb School of the Arts is literally one of the best high schools in the state. Seriously. It was rated #2 in the State and #75 in the nation. The teachers are all extremely helpful and motivated and they want to see their pupils succeed. I have been at DSA for two years. The orchestra program is phenomenal and the progress I have made has been astounding to myself and my parents. The school provides so many opportunities and training. The academics are also very important. If you slack in your academics, you will be put on probation and if you don't pull it back up...you're kicked out. DSA is one place that you don't want to be kicked out of. It's a wonderful atmosphere and it's seriously the most rigorous but exciting experience I've ever had. I love every single person in the school and it's so tight-knit that I know just about every student on a first and last name basis. Here, if you can work hard, you can play even harder.
Ranked by Washington Post #2 in Georgia, #139 in nation for AP participation and performance. The Arts departments routinely produce pre-professional performances. Judged by Atlanta Magazine to be #3 of Metro schools in preparation of students for college.
