Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I was a student at Sequoyah from 2008-2010. I would like to begin by saying that this school is probably just like every other public school, all they care about is test scores, and you are not an individual by any means. You may get lucky and have a few teachers that actually care about their jobs and take an interest in your education. Unfortunately, the math team for the most part do not seem to care whether you are there or not, they give you the work, do not explain it, and you are left to scratch your head and try your best to pass your class. The teachers are rude, they do not have respect for the students, and do not feel they should have to. They are bigger and better than you and what they say goes. I was on my own completely. I was in the counselors office regularly for about 2 weeks. I was written up and given ISS, for not getting back to class after my APPOINTMENT with the counselor fast enough for my teachers liking. I was talking to them about alternatives because this school was poisoning my need for education. Needless to say, I didn't come back one day. School is there to ensure the success of the child, not to be what ensures their failure.

I just called the school in an attempt to get information on enrolling my son and spoke with the secretary in the Registrar's Office, WOW, talking about rude and unhelpful. As soon as I mentioned that we are considering moving into the school district from overseas her attitude changed completely! There's NO WAY I would ever consider putting my child into the Cherokee County School District now! Talking about discrimination...not a chance!

Could use a new administrative staff. My child is a sophmore at SHS. I hope the higher ups consider making a change.

Both of my children have attended SHS. What a GREAT school! Administration & teachers are always available. Extra curricular activities are managed properly. There is a tremendous amount of parental involvement. Not a negative word to say about this school.

Administration not easily accessible. Do they attend meetings all day??I guess a parent/student is an interruption of there "job" and not the purpose of it.

My daughter is a freshman and this is our first year in Cherokee Co. I have had a great experience with her teachers, which is more than I can say for our previous experience in City of Decatur. I have only spoken with the Principal's office recently and found Mrs. Butterworth very informative and helpful. So far we have a very positive outlook on the school and administration.

The school is great - PTA does a wonderful job. The administration is less than extraordinary. I read the other comments and agree, the administrator (specifically the principal) is useless and very uncaring. SHS its seems to be time for a change...

My son really enjoys SHS. Go Chiefs! However Mr. Berman the principal and his assistant Ms. Butterworth leave a lot to be desired. They are not very nice and seem to have lost there compassion for there job.

The teachers are great. The principal and his assistants not that great. If you need to meet with him or his assistants best of luck. You are not a priority to them. They are always unvailable and do not return phone calls. My daughter likes the school and she has commented the principal and his staff are invisible don't bother going to them for anything. They always look irritated.

NOT IMPRESSED WITH PRINCIPAL BERMAN! ITS OBVIOUS THE STUDENTS ARE NOT A PRIORITY TO HIM AND THAT SEEMS TO BE THE ATTITUDE OF THE ENTIRE ADMINISTRATION. THE STUDENTS ARE JUST NUMBERS TO THEM. SAD!

I absolutely hat this school! All they care about is there reputation but not the kids themselves! I a student, the one who goes there everyday has not yet see my principle nor knows his name! That shows you how much hes involved in our school socially! Don't get me started on the counselors! Ok, so I just moved here tow months after school stared and I was not put in the right classes and im still not in my right classes. They stuck me in wherever there was room. Now because im not in my proper classes im failing all my classes. If not failing than just about! I swear this school only cares about the fast learning students and not the ones who are a little bit slower. Now im stuck here in this school! Witch honestly feels like a torture chamber! This is the WORST school I have ever been to!

My son is now a senior at Sequoyah High school. The staff/teachers are easily accessible, and prompt with getting back to you. We have enjoyed Sequoyah High School, and I know my son has received a great education.

Am extremely disappointed in this school. We moved here because of the good things we had heard, but our experience has not been positive. The kids are great and the parental involvement is wonderful, but the administration is unprofessional, inaccesible, and often times rude. I think it would be helpful if the counselors were more proactive in helping students decide on a plan of action after graduation. Although the teachers are nice and seem very dedicated, the level of academic instruction at this school is only mediocre in comparison with other public schools we have attended. My biggest dissapointment is, like mentioned earlier, the unprofessional administration, starting with the top administrator.

Excellent school!! I moved here from out of state where the cost of education was more than double of the rate here. The school my children attended was pitiful. It was the main reason why I left. The 5 high schools in Cherokee county are in the top 5 percent in the state of Georgia. The parents and community as well as the teachers all get involved in school functions. What more can you ask for. Maybe a good salad or film studies?? Give me a break. The person that wrote that review has no idea how lucky they are to be in this school. I guess you don't realize how good a school really is until you come from a substandard one. You can always move to Hollywood.

In my four years of school at Sequoyah, I must say that I greatly enjoyed it. The teachers were very focused on academic excellence, and the coaches were focused on making their programs one of the best in the state. I feel as though I got what I wanted out of high school. However, my love for the school and its academics and programs greatly diminished as my time progressed there. The current administration needs to get over themselves. You are not impressing anyone; in fact you are bringing the school down. Once a new administration is in place I am sure that Sequoyah will be a great institution that it once was. For now, I am at the peak of disappointment. As always, GO CHIEFS!

The school is really great and a lot of the teachers are patient. However, some of the teachers need to retire, and some of them have no teaching ability. The school does not have a film or screenwriting program, the chosen profession of my daughter, and will inhibit her from getting into a good college without that expierience. Other than the lack of useable electives, the school is very good. Oh, another downside is that they only offer a salad for vegetarians. My daughter is a vegetarian, but she doesn't eat the salad the school provides. The trayed meals require that they give her meat, and she wont but it because of the close proximity of the meats and foods...It would make a difference if they encouraged healthier eating habits and offered a better variety of foods.

The school system has some really wonderful teachers and some that just need to find another profession. The principal is useless. His focus is on the school needs/numbers and not the needs of individual students. The required reading materials for literature would carry an X rating for sexual content. The band program is excellent. Also, DECA program was outstanding. However, overall I would recommend Creekview High School above Sequah and I have children in both schools.

SHS is one of the best High Schools in Cherokee County. The teachers have cared more for my son then any teachers he has ever had. SHS was ranked again in Newsweek's top 1000 U.S. schools for 2007. The AF Junior ROTC program has made a big difference in my son's schooling.

Great school! One of Newsweek's top 1000 in the country last year. Test scores are well above county and state averages. Lots of sports and a really good band. No major behavior problems. Football program is a bit over-the-top, but they have a winning program. I believe it's the best in the county.

Our experience at Sequoyah has been very positive. This school seems to have it all, good academics, well adjusted and behaved students and good athletics. The one negative has been over crowding and that is now being relieved with the opening of a new high school.

After attending Sequoyah High school for ten years and having a father that has worked in the school system for over 25 years SHS is one of the best out there. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA and walked away with a very reputable education that I have found to be far superior them most. SHS is a school for those who want to learn, those are the ones who will thrive. I was very active in the theatre and chorus programs. SHS has has high rankings in every area of awards, from education to sports to fine arts. SHS is a great school also due to its country influence with its down home hospitality and care!

Sequoyah is your 'run of the mill' Cherokee County school. The principal is new and cooperation with the teachers is 'luke warm' at best. It has an aging faculty which is great for quality of upper level (AP, senior level) classes, but finding sponsers for clubs is tough. Sports are big at Seqouyah, but there seems to be too many coaches and not enough teachers. Parent involvement is decent. Learning does not exist in these classes. Could have more academic electives. School is 100% safe. Fights are rare events, not the norm.
