As a parent I am not pleased with this school. The administration seem to have major ego issues. We have had issues with the school counselor, as well. My child has never been more unhappy in his life!!! I am considering sending my children elsewhere next year.
I work in your library and I love my kids.I don't care what we go through sometimes.I will always pray over you !
As a former BRMS student, I am very disappointed about my experience at this school. Drugs and fights were common throughout my time there. Out of my 3 years there, I only had a couple teachers that really were passionate about teaching. Some of my teaches were rude. The work consisted of "busy work" in many classes. Homework overloads were common. Once I was doing work until 2 AM. There were no field trips and no clubs. In 8th grade, I would work really hard writing papers, but I never got any back. I never knew what to improve on, all I got back was a number. The same teacher gave us ridiculous topics, which were bias and practically impossible to write. The cafeteria was disgusting, and there were cockroaches crawling around. They served very small portions as well. Because of this, I always brought my lunch. The lunch times were bizzare. 6th graders ate around 10: 45 and 8th graders around 1:45. Also, bathoom visits were rushed. There weren't any mirrors in any of the bathrooms. They had all been taken down. The teachers encourage you to read, but the library is small and filled with old books. There are no new, and interesting books that teens would like.
It's good school with caring teachers, but sadly the extracurriculars are.... wait, what extracurriculars? This school is lacking in clubs and things for students to d outside of the classroom. Only clubs are NJHS, Velocity, Jr. Marshals, Sports, and a few other organizations. No fun clubs started by students. No field trips. No 8th grade graduation. If you want you're kid to go to a school with lots of options for clubs, go to another county. However, this has been an OK year.
This is one of the best schools around Columbus. I'm proud that both of my boys attend here. Blackmon Road has very good teachers including the music teachers. The Christmas Concert was very good and I did enjoy: The Orchestra, Band, and Chorus was well put together.
This is a VERY vivaciuosm, fun, educational, and great school! The teachers and staff (plus students) here are very polite, kind, and just perfect! I moved to this school from another state during the middle of 6th grade and I was REALLY nervous, but then I found out that I was afraid of nothing! This school is very welcoming, heplful, and everything! It's also a lot of fun! We have pep rallys, dances, games, and MUCH MUCH more stuff here! This is THE perfect middle school EVER!
My son and our family love Blackmon Road Middle School. We are headed into our third and final successful year at this great school. There have been challenges and each has been strategically resolved. Mr. Barden runs a tight ship. His house is always in order. I am the parent of a special needs child and very pleased with our experience at Blackmon.
I am happy with the school. Great Principal and teachers. Good job with the discipline, that how it has to be. Excelents grades. It is the best school in Columbus. Continue with this great effort
Most people want to know what kind of school their child is or will be going to. Blackmon Road is the kind of school that parents should look for if they want their children to receive an education that prepares them for the future. We have a challenging curriculum and we push our students to be serious about taking charge of their learning. We expect them to take responsibility for their actions and we work as hard as any faculty I've ever been around to make sure that we provide every child the education that they need to be successful in life. Yes, discipline is strict, but it is also fair. We tell our students over and over again what is expected of them and we work with them to make sure that they exhibit the kinds of behaviors that lead to success.
The Mr.Barden (new principal) is a little stricter than than Dr.Shouppe(old one).We have less dances , pep rallies , and other fun stuff.I am an 8th grader in blackmon currently. I think we are learning more than last year(or it could just be in the 8th grade you have to learn a lot) but the work it a little too much for me(but I guess they are preparing us for high school).I think they took away the Spanish class 2 years ago and that hurt many people. We still have band ,chorus anmd the other stuff. Also the conduct system is way harder(again, they can just be preparing us for high school).I rate it 3-star
The school was good last year but with the new principal we don't do a lot of pep rallys and fun stuff. Like last year we went outside after we ate out lunch on some days but now we don't. Its a lot stricter which some times is good but its not fun anymore. I just think he needs to add some fun into school so people want to come.
My son has gone to Blackmon Road for two years and will be entering eighth grade this year. The teachers are fantastic and with the leadership and support of their Principal; Blackmon Road is 'The' Middle school to attend in Columbus. This school is not a magnet school, however, the educators in this school did not fail in giving my son a 'magnet school' quality education.
Good school, but I am seeing certain programs like band going downhill.
Blackmon road is the best school i have ever went to. It has a good band, chours, football team, basketball team, ect. Blackmon road probably has the most students of the middle school age. They have GREAT teachers. They get you ready for high school and collage. They teach you more than you need to know.Blackmon road middle is the best school EVER!
I went to Blackmon Road Middle School in the 7th and 8th grades, and it was the best experience ever. Blackmon prepared me for Columbus High. Blackmon deserves to be called number one. Not only is Blackmon good in academics, but also the sports program is successful.
I am about to go to Blackmon RD middle School, and I am kind of excited but then again really concerned because this is my first time ever going to middle school andI don't know how it will be.
This is an excellent middle school. Like any good school, the leadership sets the environment. Most of the teachers are quality instructors. I only wish that Midland Academy prepared the students more for this school's program.
