The bad comments on the staff are not true. The teachers are of all different personalities as to be expected of any school. I would disregard any comment by a "former student" who could not succeed. Make no mistake, this school is not only for the most intelligent students but more for students whom are concerned with being academically competitive on the highest level. Do not attend/ send your child to Columbus high school without a passion for learning or an outstanding work ethic. There may be stress but this school is meant to imitate a college experience which it most certainly does. This puts students in an exponentially better position to attend a top college of their choosing

CHS is a great school. It prepares students for college more than any other school. Yes, students do kicked out for getting below a "C" if you cannot do C work at Columbus High than you need to be at another school. The work is manageable if the student prioritizes. CHS does not teach students to be arrogant or egotistical, it teaches students to work to the best of their ability. I would recommend Columbus High School to any student willing to be dedicated to their work. It really pays off in the long run.

I honestly hate that I'm having to say this about the "best" high school in the county but, I do not recommend this school. While I'm sure their education is great, what they do to their students is saddening. I saw one of their clubs at a competition and they reacted very obnoxiously upon winning. They really wanted to let everyone know that they won. They really enlarge the student's ego, not in a good way. And if you're not already acting like you're better than everyone, others are incredibly stressed out. The stress levels are high, mainly because of the grade deal they have, which I still don't understand. Plus, the teachers and staff there are really rude. Now, other schools in the district, they're welcome to help you. They do everything they can to make sure you meet your needs. It's a shame that I see this is other high schools and not Columbus (which is #4 in the state of Georgia) I'm sorry to say this but CHS does not deserve its position. 1/5

CHS is a great school for anyone who is fully comitted and dedicated to the educational part of life. The faculty and staff are very nice and they do their best to motivate the student body to do their best. Some of the teachers are strict, but that is to the students' advantage. While attending CHS, you are given a bit more freedom than most schools, but with that freedom comes responsibility. Any student that attends CHS eventually learns proper manners. CHS is truely a college prep. I highly reccomend this school for any student that wants to succeed in college and their carreer. GO BLUE DEVILS!

Columbus High is for students that want to work hard to achieve goals. Any student that says this is a bad school because they kick students out for bad grades is not the type of student CHS caters to. CHS does some rude faculty in the office but majority of the teachers are respectful. CHS is a school that prepares you for college. There is a heavy workload and assignments are challenging, but it is supposed to be that way. CHS wants to push it's students to go above and beyond the requirements. The security of the school is also fine. If you visit other high schools in Columbus, you will see that the campus is open to the public. CHS does have police that stay paroling the area and school just like any other school does. Overall, CHS is a great school as long as you have the motivation and self discipline to do the work.

I am really appalled that this school scares the hell out of kids if they get a grade C in a class. They are allowed to threaten the kids with disenrollment. It is an extremely stressful school environment. They expect the kids to perform at a level that is sometimes overwhelming for a HS student. Kids are suppose to enjoy their high years, not worry if they are going to be kicked out if they receive a low grade.

My daughter graduated from CHS in 2010. The teachers were no more rude than what you'd find in the general population. CHS was a **very** good experience, way better than what she would have had in our former town in a different state. Was it sometimes stressful? Yes, of course. Were there rewards? YES. Is it right for the school to kick out kids getting below a C average? Of course it is! The school's mission is to prep kids for college, and if you can't do C level work here, then you should WANT to go to another high school more in line with your objectives. There are a couple of other GOOD high schools in town, so it is not a case where there are no options. As for CHS, not having to cater to non-academic oriented students (that is not a criticism, by the way, for either the school or non-academic kids), allows it to excel in the areas that it does well in. Good thing is that CHS is a magnet school, so you can live anywhere in Muscogee County and apply. Lots of kids from other counties, and even Alabama, come to CHS as well.

While CHs is challenging they do this because they only expcept the best of the best. It can be stressful at times but the teachers are all willing to help.

My child does seem over whelmed with homework alot of times but she manages. The staff I would have to agree, they are rude. Myself or my wife can go to check our child out and the office ladies don't even acknowledge your there. Anyone could enter the school and write down someone else name and do what ever and go anywhere. It has happened more times than I can count. Thats the only reason I give a low score. Security! Our children's lives are at stake also!

I would only give this school 2 stars. To much STRESS on the kids. They need to understand that HEALTHY growth and development is much more than a grade on a piece of paper. The teachers are EXTREMELY RUDE, the students are so stressed about getting kicked out of school for a C or less (Which is the only reason this school has a 100% graduation count.) by the time they finish High School they are a nervous wreck. They can't hold on to friendships much less a real relationship. There are so many times that teachers cross the line and no disciplinary action is taken. If a student crosses the same line they get ISS, suspended, expelled, ARRESTED, etc. This school needs a SERIOUS revamp!!!! I am very disgusted that our government don't protect our children any better that this. I wonder how many Columbus High School graduates over the past 10 yrs. have stress related medical problems now. Best guess is at least 85-90%

I went to CHS as a freshman this year and i had conflicting feelings about the school. The work was hard but doable. The faculty though was very disrespectful to the students and sometimes short tempered. The school has very high test scores when they can throw out any kid that gets below a C on their repot card! I think college is important but this school takes it to an extreme. They put an impression on the students that if they dont get into college then they'll be failures in life. Overall i didnt enjoy my time here and was glad i moved!

People think "CHS is so great" based upon it's performance according to state standards. For example, CHS was the first school to have 100% pass (more than one) Georgia High School Graduation Tests on the first attempt. However, this website is misleading. CHS is currently an ALL MAGNET SCHOOL. Although it is a "public school," students must be accepted into the school based upon an essay and academic performance in previous grades. I attended CHS and was a member of the first ever magnet program class, and I am currently a teacher at another school in the same district. Although I commend CHS for it's high scoring performance according to state standards, I do wonder how well the remaining schools in MCSD would perform if given the same option of screening their students....

I attended this school in the early 2000s. It was a great school. The teachers were, with few exceptions, very knowledgeable of their subject, and very good at both teaching and building strong teacher-student relationships. My education at Columbus High has enabled me to excel at nearly everything I've set my mind to, helped me earn scholarships to attend good schools, and prepared me for life.

Overrated. I have gone to Columbus High School as well as Brookstone School, a private school in the area. Brookstone School is much more challenging and the faculty is more helpful and caring. I don't understand why people think CHS is so great when it's just like another other high school in the world.

We have had two children graduate from CHS and go on to college. They both found that college was not a big adjustment at all after their work load at CHS. I would suggest that you should evaluate your student's willingness to put forth the effort before sending them here. It is well worth it, but not easy. We have two more going through and hope it will be our one and only high school experience in Columbus!

Excellent school. Our eldest son graduated from CHS and is now in college. He was well prepared and learned to balance many extracurricular activities with school. We moved out of State and regret our younger son now attends a High School that while excelling in education, does not offer the extracurricular activities available at CHS.

I have had two children attend CHS. One graduated in 2006 and the other attended only for her freshman year when we moved out of the county. CHS not only prepared my oldest for success in college, it set the foundation for my youngest in her high school career. She is now a junior at another high school in North Georgia and is #1 in her class with a 4.5 GPA. I attribute this to what she learned her freshman year at CHS. Her current classmates are not near as well versed in SAT vocab. as she is. She still has her SAT vocab. workbook from her CHS freshman Foundations class and periodically refreshes herself. She just took the SAT and I can't wait to see how she does. CHS produces motivated and well rounded students. From academics to athletics, you could not ask for a better school in Georgia.

I recently graduated from Columbus High School and have to say that those were the best four years of my life (at least so far). The teachers were great and I learned far more than I ever expected. Because of it being a college prepatory magnet as well as a liberal arts magnet, I feel so much more comfortable in college than I thought I was going to be. I feel prepared (sometimes more so than other students) when a difficult task or assignment is put in front of me. Because I am attending a local college, you can always tell who was a Columbus High graduate.

CHS is just like any other high school. Sure, our academic standards are set high from the get-go of freshman year, but thats why we are Columbus High; that's why we require an entrance exam, and that's why we maintain our magnet program at such a high level of education. One parent posted, 'teachers and students are unfriendly at CHS', and I guess it really depends on who you talk to.

I've had two children attend CHS. One is now a sophomore in college and the other a sophomore at CHS. We have seen the great, bad, and ugly, but overall, my two have been well prepared. My oldest was not near as motivated as my second child, however, he still did well enough that he is now bored with college. CHS was much tougher than most of his college classes. My second is much more motivated and making the most of what the school has to offer academically. With all the extracurriculars any student can find their niche. My only real concerns came with the wasted time that often occurred with block scheduling and not enough planned, the teachers who were kept on to coach but taught classes with minimal instruction, and the nit-picky rules the administrators were obsessed with. Overall, however, my two were well prepared and happy.

I have had two children graduate from CHS and have one presently enrolled. It is academically a wonderful school and has terrific extracurriculars, also. It has cliques, like any other high school, and I'm sure there is some funny business in admitting talented athletes who don't necessarily meet the academic requirements - which also goes on everywhere. My caution would be this - it's only a good school for your child if your child is motivated to work. My oldest lost her motivation in her junior year, and the last year was awful. The teachers were not motivated to assist a child who was not a top performer, and I wish I had transferred her. My second child Was a top performer, and he had a great experience. Don't keep your child here just because it's a great school - it has to be the Right school.

We have had a our ups and downs will Col High. Overall they are an excellent school. Especially when you compare to what else is available. The special Ed department could use more money and opportunities for the kids. They need to work with Diabetics a little better but we have seen a tremendous improvement over the last two years in that respect. The drama, English, history, and sports areas are excellent. It would be nice if the teachers had more time to spend with the students when they have questions. Overall, be prepared to put in the work, organize your time, be prepared to study, expect to take a very early bus, and enjoy yourself. It is a great school that is still moving forward and will continue to progress. Put your application in early so that the school is not full before you decide to apply.

Columbus High School is without a doubt the best public high school in the county, and perhaps even the state. The school time and again proves itself to be on par with any private school, and yet is tuition free. CHS churns out one well rounded student after another. I graduated from the magnet program at Columbus High several years ago, and can honestly say that it has prepared me well for college as well as professional school (so far). One word of advice to perspective students, Columbus High is very competitive, even though the talent pool may be much stronger than at other schools, there can still only be one valedictorian. I graduated with a 4.31/4.0 and was still ranked only 15 in my class. Put in the work at Columbus High, and you will soon be rewarded with a great education.

My daughter graduated from CHS in 2003. CHS is a wonderful asset to the community. The students are given many rigorous opportunities to prepare for college. Regardless of your child's strengths they will be challenged and developed at CHS. The culture of the student body is so positive for scholars. Students encourage and celebrate academic success. AT CHS, it is the norm not the exception for students to value their education. My daughter received 2 wonderful scholarships to college. Their guidance staff really works over-time looking for scholarships. Thanks CHS! You saved us money, nurtured our daughter, and gave her the skills to succeed in college. Thank you teachers!

Columbus High is the best school in the area and one of the best schools in the state. I am a senior this year and have attended all 4 years. The environment is safe, diverse, and very enriching with all the extracurricular activites and APs offered. Students leave CHS prepared to do well in college (obviously by their SAT scores) and in life. I recommend that everyone attempt to send their children. This school is however challenging and does require an entrance exam.

The greatest achievement of the administration and faculty of Columbus High School is their abiltiy to motivate students. You will find CHS a public high school which, instead of lowering the bar, has chosen to raise the standards for education. In response, the student body has overwhelming accepted the challenge and exceeded all state and national test score averages! As a parent of one Columbus High School graduate and a current sophomore, I love this school!

Super college prep school. CHS provides outlets in all areas to allow the student to 'try'. Teachers, coaches and admin staff are all supportive of the students. Upperclassmen are always willing to assist the lowerclassmen. Since Columbus High is a liberal arts magnet it allows the student to develop and be prepared for college in all areas.

Our daughter just completed her high school education at Columbus High. To say that we were pleased with the administration, the faculty, the curricula, and the environment would be an understatement. We could not have asked for a better experience for her. If more schools were like Columbus High School, the number of students actually prepared for college would be significantly higher. Columbus High School not only provides an academic education; it also provides a life-experience education.
