Indian Creek Middle School

The teachers at ICMS appear to care more for their personal needs than the students. It is a very political school. Decisions are made not on a child's merit, but who the teacher/coach/director knows or can benefit from. Education is not a priority, your financial status is.

I am a sophomore in high school who went here from 6th grade to 8th grade (2008-2011). I have to say I did not enjoy my time here. While the academics were good for the most part, everything else was off. In 6th grade I came here from an elementary school that did not have many other students going to this school, so I didn't know anyone. The school felt very clique-ish, especially in the Gifted classes that I were in. I was placed in Quest Social Studies and Quest Mathematics (even though I am not very good at mathematics and exceeded reading/english on my 5th grade CRCT and only met the standards for math). I kept having a hard time in Quest Math. The teacher, I felt, was too strict. I do admit I wasn't trying as hard as I should, but the teacher just made it worse. My mother eventually took me out of the Quest program. I was bullied a lot during my time there, and the teachers and administration did not care. I did not have a lot money, and other children that did seemed to be favored. There were some great teachers there, however, such as Ms. Angulo, Mrs. Proffitt and Mr. Love. Overall, I did not like Indian Creek. The administration needs to improve their school.

Extremely disappointed. Sometimes you just can't find the right words, and saying to much can be taken the wrong way. The word unsatisfactory comes to mind. Submitted by a Grandparent

I have a student who just finished his first year at Indian Creek. His teachers were professional, organized, and most importantly available. We had several conferences throughout the year, even though my kid was not a behavior problem. All teachers kept us posted on math and reading levels without me or my husband even asking. They went above and beyond. There was an instance of my child being made fun of and my son told me that his homeroom teacher handled it that day and the kid got in trouble. I was very nervous with my child going to middle school. I thought I would have to constantly be calling the school, dealing with bullies, and teachers that wouldn't have time for my child. I couldn't have been more wrong. These teachers really care about the kids and pay attention to their individual needs.

My son was an 8th grade student at ICMS this year. We moved to Covington from Gwinnett County and he had always attended in Gwinnett County prior to our move. I must say that this school year has been his best. He has always had problems with focus and distractability and the teachers at ICMS were wonderful and he felt encouraged and motivated in ways that I don't believe he ever did in prior schools. A special thank you to Mr. Erik Love and Mr. Michael Smith-Foot..... you are wonderful teachers and it's obvious that teaching is more to you than just a job, it's apparent that you care about the children as individuals, which makes a huge difference.

My daughter is in her first year at Indian Creek, and I have been very encouraged by how well she has done during what can be a difficult transition from elementary to middle grades. She is in several AP classes and the quality of instruction has been excellent. She also loves the band program and the other after-school activities.

I was a student at indian creek.I loved it. and i think that it is a great school. Sure there is teasing and some bullying but what you have to realize is that all schools have it. And to tell the truth it only gets worse in high school. I am a freshman at Eastside high school so i know how hard it can be. But really if you only baby these students then high school will be there worst nightmare. Now dont get me worng high school is amazing but i think thats because at indian creek i learned to accept myself and not worry what others said so much. If you are listening to all the negative things about this school then maybe you should really think about it..how was school for you? was it really that easy? or did you have to work through some problems?

Like most parents, I want the best education possible for my child and even more so because this is my only one! My child has been in both public and private schools in my quest to accomplish this goal. No school is perfect and parental involvement is very important. Let someone SEE that you care & make yourself known. No, it shouldn't be this way but it often times is. ICMS is what you and your child make it! There are some great teacher here but we as parents have to stop leaving it up to the teachers to raise our children. START at home! Manners, appropriate attire, making respect paramount, speaking out against bullying, and being the teacher and your childs partner in education can go a long ways. Compliments to: Ms. Allemani, Littlejohn, Proffitt, Briscoe, & all those who teach from their hearts!

I'm a student at ICMS that just finsihed 6th Grade. If I had to give Indian Creek a score, I'd give it a D- because of the bullying and teachers. If your child is overweight or special needs or poor or very unpopular he or she will porbably be made fun of. There was one teacher I had that said I had citizenship issues when I actually didn't. The other teachers on my team said that I had pretty good citizenship skills. Even though I dislike Indian Creek, the other Newton County Middle Schools are not a walk in the park. Even though ICMS is the best middle school in newton county it still is a horrible school and you should not let your son or daughter go there.

In the beginning, my daughter was teased almost everyday by students and the teachers that heard the comments did nothing. However, after bringing it to the administrators attention, I received wonderful results. Academically, some of the teachers are great, but there are some teachers who have a problem in showing concern and patience with kids who don't catch on quickly.

This is my daughters first and hopefully the last. She has had trouble with other students. I will not be sending my child to a school that can not ensure her safety.

My child is in his second year at ICMS and he has had excellent teachers both years. The counseling staff is superb and administration seems to be doing a very good job. My daughter will enter next year and I hope she has as much sucess as her brother. Keep up the good job ICMS!

My duaghter goes to this school, this is her first year there. And so far so good. Ihave met a few teachers. But overall ok.
