Paulding County High School

Every school has room for improvement and PCHS is no exception. Yes it has failed some of its testing but this is child/parent dependent. The teachers are very knowledgable and educated and are there to help. Two of my daughters graduated (2008 and 2011) from this High School and both entered very successful college careers. One is attending Nursing School and the other is attending a highly sought after college (only 500 out of 14,000 applicants get accepted each year to this college). If you are of an entitlement mentallity this school is not for you (they are not going to give you your grades, you have to earn them) but if you and your child are willing to put time and effort into helping your child succeed this is a great school and your kids will be very successful after graduation. The ROTC and Band programs are very active and very successful in keeping the kid motivated.

This school is currently on the list of the Georgia Department of Education's "Priority Schools" list. Composed of the worst performing schools through out the state. Out of the three warning levels, priority, focus, and alert, they're placed on the highest level, priority. There will be good and bad in any school. Two of our children are attending PCHS. For the most part the experience has been good. The new administration seems to be a step in the right direction. If you are not involved, there is really no room to complain.....kind of like voting. SUPPORT YOUR SCHOOL!!

I graduated from this school in 2006. I had alot of fun in four years, but I will say I was not properly prepared for college, academically. High schools, probably in general, do not place enough emphasis on studying. Some teachers will give students a grade curve on a test or something, so that they may be able to go from say a 67 to a 70, which is nice and helps at the time, but it's not reality! Not so in college! In college you study, or you fail! I did have a professor once who was willing to help me pull my grade up, but I had to work for it. In college its gone with the days of grade curbs, it's all on you. And I was not prepared, however I did redeem myself my second and third semesters in college

Check the writing test scores of this school in comparison to the other high schools in the county--they are fantastic, especially when you consider that PCHS pulls its students from the widest range of incomes, etc. Their scores beat all the otherschools in the county except EPHS--and they are virtually the same as theirs. And EPHS has a VERY different student population from PCHS. Obviously, Paulding County HS must be doing something right.

Overall, a good school. In my opinion, it's a parent's job to motivate their children. If you are waiting for the faculty to do it, you'll be waiting a LONG time.

I am a graduate of 1983 and our counselors did nothing then to help with college prep either. I went to school and got pretty good grades. I loved the school, people and the Patriots. But, I was not prepared nor told of what to do about college so I got married. Not until my adulthood did I go to medical school and graduated. Since I have had 2 sons graduate from PCHS and they had the same issues in 2003 and 2006. If not for my Husband whom is a college grad too with masters in Science and Engineering my sons would not have suceeded at all. We need leadership in the school and people who know their job and how to get our kids motivated.

I am a senior at PCHS and i wish nothing more than to graduate from a different school . We have way to many issues with disipline and students are so disrespectful (to the teachers as well). Any money that we get goes to help out the kids who couldnt care less. The ones who care dont get any recognition for it, and it is sad because there a a lot of students who go to PCHS who are wonderful, but no one will know because they are to busy focusing on all of the people making this school a living nightmare! They praise the students who can fail all year but amazingly pull their thumb out of their butt at the end to pull off a passing grade. But the students who work hard all year long to make sure they are passing get no credidation for it. Boo!

I am a former student of pchs. I graduated in 2008 and our counselors didnt help us out with any thing. They need a counseling office that is going to help kids out with getting into college.

I really have to disagree with everyone else, this school is one of the worst, the kids are terrible and they have to many disiplinary problems, they hardly give any funding t the honors and ap classes it all goes to the football team I'm ashamed to go here and thats that

I am a parent of a former student at PCHS. I must say that I was really happy with the school during the four years my son was there. Most everyone in the county thinks that this school is the worst among all the others.I have to disagree. As anyone will tell you there are 'bad' things at all schools. The teachers went out of their way to inform me of things I would want to know about with my son. I disagree with the football team (at every school) receiving more funding than other activities such as music and art. Yes they have more 'fans' if that's what you call kids hanging out at the game to socialize, but it should be like a big team, all for the same school. Parent involvement is truly based on the parents concern for their childs' education and their work schedule. I loved PCHS!

I'm not a parent, but I am a current student at PCHS. Most schools/ people would consider this school to be one of the poorest schools in this county. Honestly since I have more knowledge in this school I would have to say PCHS is one of the best school in the county. This school has many programs and extra activities for the students to join. Also for anyone who enjoys sports this school has some of the best teams. Also we have wonderful teachers who really cares about the students and the education of each student. Honestly I would not say that this school is one of the poorest in the county. Although the outside apparence is not all glamorous such as some schools, the school is still well kept. There are some discipline problems but what school doesn't have it? This is the school your child should attend.

At the time of this review my son is an upcoming freshman. I had many situations this past year of class scheduling and class changes before my son actually got to the highschool. The counselor emailed me very quickly and was very helpful in helping us to change a course that we felt was to low of a placement that the middle school had placed him into. The counselor gave us great advice on his placement and then upon our decision immediately began working on changing his schedule. I was so suprised at how much this counselor cared about a student that was not currently attending her school but would this upcoming school year. Kudos go out to the counselor/advisors at Paulding County High.

Weakest leadership from a Principal I have ever seen. If it were not for 2 or 3 great asst prin. the school would fall apart. The school has top notch sports teams and a great band. Great students. Little parent involvement except for sports and band.

My husband graduated from PC. I have had 1 daughter grad.with honors in 2003 and another will grad. in 2005. We love this school. The sports are great but the real value is in the teaching staff. Not sure of the new administrator but Mr. M is great. There is so much tradition and pride at this school, unlike HHS & EP.The buildings may not be the best(age)but the heart of the school is what is important. My oldest daughter was in the education apprenticeship program and is now at KSU. She subs in the county now & is looking forward to teaching at PC in a few years!I hope the faculty and staff keep up the good work!These students are our future! P. Norton :)
