Middle school is a very difficult age to teach. It is a time of great change in a child's life. We just finished our 6th year at HJMS (between 2 kids). Over all it was a good experience. The present administration is a plus. The principal talks to the students like they are people and not automatically a problem. In 6 years we only had an issue with one teacher and she is no longer there. We are going to miss HJMS.....but time to move on to high school.
Wonderful school! The rating does not match the greatness of the administrators and teachers - so don't judge a book by its cover. The teachers work hard to teach the students. The Principal and administrators are a great support. The only problem is that this school is poorly funded and not a lot of parents join the PTSA. Parents need to GET and STAY involved.
We moved from Cherokee Co. to Paulding County last year and we have 2 students attending Herschel Jones. The teachers seem to really care about my sons and their academic achievement. I am not happy that they cut out the sports programs this year though. I think sports are a very important!! But overall I think this is an excellent school.
I have worked at Jones for 4 years now, and it is by far the best school I've ever worked for. The staff members are a family who deeply care about each other, the students, and the community. Don't judge a book by its cover - we are an old school, but we have so much to offer. Our science building and new building/cafe are gorgeous! The principal (Mr. Wilcox) is highly involved, and wants the best for the students. We made AYP in 2009, and have been working hard to make it again in 2010. Our 8th grade writing scores have improved from 63% to 75% meeting or exceeding (4th in the county) in just one year. The teachers are dedicated to the success of the students, and work hard to ensure that all children get a quality education. I'd send my kids here in a heartbeat!
I think the school is ok! I really like the New Building and New Cafe'. Personally all my classes are in the mew building... My teachers are Awesome..I would like to give a shout out to... Mrs. Valeire McClure, Mr. Jeremy Anderson, Mrs. Laura Webb and Ms. Lindsey Hodges..Thank you teachers yall ROCK!
Hello. I am a student at Herschel Jones Middle. It's okayy. Could be better. They have made alot of improvments though. New building, New Cafe', New Softball field. We even have a new Principal. I like the old one better thoughh. The school is cool overall. :)
Our daughter attends HJMS and loves it!!! She is very involved and takes pride in her school. Alot of people think because the school is old that its bad. Not true! All middle schools aren't great. Because middle school children are trying to find them selves and get the first dose of peer pressure. Get involved to make it better!!!!!!!
I love HJMS! My second child is now enrolled in Jones and I wouldn't put her anywhere else. My son went there for three years and the quality is just as great today as it was then. Others have commented on the school being run down and old and at one time it was the ONLY middle school in Paulding. I have to make a comparison here for the sake of the school...just as with people, buildings get old and 'run down' but that doesn't mean that what is on the inside is so horrible. I love all of the teachers at HJMS and the students will tell you how much their teachers care about them. Don't judge a book by its cover....HJMS is a GREAT school! Go Tigers!
I have sent two children thru hjms. One child is in 6th gr now. We are being redistricted to moses-huge disappointment. We would choose to stay at hjms. We have had some great memories.
February 07 - My child has been going to this school since 6th grade and now is in 8th. If I could home school her I would! It's a shame that the teachers arent as nice as they seem and when there is a problem with mine, they tend to forget who they work for! My daughter is not a problem and when she asks for help, it's denied! Had too many problems with bully's and fighting. The Principal's should get with the program and listen to all instead of his staff. Alot more is going on than what he see's..... sorry! I suggest camera's in all rooms and to be turned on instead of ' Oops, sorry camera wasnt on today'. If you cant use them return them and get your credit back...Kathy
Herschel Jones Middle school is a great school to go to. If I had a choose I would go to it. The teachers care about their students, but the can be mean but only because they care is why they are strict. I would give any thing to stay at their after this year but I most go on to high school.
Herschel Jones has been a wonderful school. It may seem small, 'run down' or whatever, but overall, it teaches so much for your future. The teachers there actually care about the students. The band program is a really good one, as is the old (2000-2004) Venture program. (They have a new teacher now I believe). Spanish of 2002-2004 was also wonderful. I love HJMS and recommend it over all of the other middle schools in Paulding County.
HJMS has made some physical improvements to the school over the summer. Yes, it is and old school but the teachers and staff make up for it. My daughter loves HJMS. She excelled in the 6th grade and couldn't wait to go back during the summer break. She is involved in many activities at the school. Give HJMS a try!
Coming from Atlanta, I would have to say that the conditions of this school are horrific! This particular school is entirely too small. The school is a eyesore and says alot about the community in which it is located. In just looking at the school, I would not allow my child or anyone else's for that matter to attend such a school. Our children deserve better! Our children in grades 6-8th grades are at a critical time in their lives where we need to offer them more than some rin down school. We need various programs to keep their minds positively ingaged in the community.
These are my son's ratings. This will be his second year at this school. I have not been able to visit during school hours due to my work schedule, but the teachers I have met are very attentative and seem to care about their students.
