I am a parent of three students that attend CGMS. I personally don't think this is a good school. The staff act as if they are on the students level instead of being the authoritative figures we expect them to be. I agree that the home and parents /or guardians are where they first learn social skills, discipline, and reenforcement of what is taught in school. But, I am having problems with teachers / or staff members provoking and not listening to the students and then setting them up to be arrested or sent to alternative school rather than finding ways to truly mediate conflicts between students and staff or students and student. Either way there is a miscarriage justice in this school and yes, I am a hands on parent and do not think that my kids are perfect by no means but, I also know that adults are not always right either and if the staff is not willing to step up and admit that, what message does that send to the students entrusted to them to educate? Beleive it or not kids want structure not adults bullying them...

I am a parent of three children at CGMS. One is in the Gifted/HA program and the other two are not. I am very impressed with the level of dedication that the HA/Gifted teachers provide, but the kids who are less acadmic kinda flounder around. I keep involved and have constant communication with the teachers and counselors. The school is only as strong as the parents are. If the parents are involved it stands to reason that the school operates better because we demand more. I don't have a problem with CGMS. I think they are doing a good job oftrying to keep the kids focused.

Cedar Grove Middle School is not a good school for children that are trying to learn and want to succeed. There is no security, children are always walking the halls during class time, other grades are on the other highway, too many fights not being reported, Principal do not return calls to concerned parents. This is a parent that just withdrew her son in 7th grade 7/2008

Significant improvement has been made this year with Dr. Flanagan at the helm as building principal. Cedar Grove has a dedicated staff and involved parents who work together to ensure that each CGMS succeeds. Everyone put in extra time and effort with programs like Safety Net before and after school tutorial, Saturday schools and various other programs to make sure that no student was left behind. Kudos to the hard working students, parents, teachers and administrative team. It was all a group collaboration.

This school has a good Principal but needs some improvement in Teacher instructional quality, and school safety and discipline. My husband and I stayed involved with the Teachers and what is happening in the classroom to ensure that our child obtained a good education. Our classroom observation revealed the lack of good classroom instructions. There was very little classroom control or discipline, therefore, the environment was unsafe for those students desiring to learn. We witnessed many disruptions in the classroom, verbal fights between teachers and students, and physical fights between students in the classrooms and halls. Students were injured in the halls in front of Security and Teachers and very little was done. It is no wonder they did not make AYP this year. We are searching for another school to enroll our child in for the next year.

This school is absolutly excellent. My child went there in 7th and 8th grade and he loved it. My child liked it so much that my sister used my address so her child could attend that school. The staff is wonderful and they keep and very good relationship with the parents and make sure that we were updated and knew about every event that took place. I love this school.

When my daughter first started at Cedar Grove Middle, she was very pleased. Her classes were excellent and the teachers kept in touch with me. I always maintained the communication with her teachers and her activities, if you feel like you wanted to know what's going, what better to contact the school. Her grades were in line where they were in elementary school - A's and B's. The projects are always what they need to get involved, and parent involvement is a given. Keep you the good work and teachers stay on track

1. The new Principal Ms. Flanagan had alot to contest with in year 1 of her tenure. She had over 500 extra students because of the schools high marks. Fortunately the enrollment today 2006-2007 has been reduced to 1200 and the school seems to be back on track. 2. Parent participation is great. 3. The Principal sends out lots of info on tests and curriculum. 4. The building and grounds are beautiful. 5. I have never seen so many teachers who are available to help your child succeed as I have at cedar grove. 6. It is a safe environment for the kids to be in because they have visible security. 7. It is a great place for kids to be!
