This is my fourth year at this school. The first year was an awesome experience. The teacher was more than excellent. The second year was mediocre. Last year was a horrible experience. This is my last year at this school and again I am counting down the days until the end of the year. I would never recommend this school to anyone and regret the decision to move into this highly recommended school district. They do not "appear" to want to work with a parent to make the child's educational experience a positive one.
South Douglas is a great school. The teachers and staff are excellent, courteous, friendly, and care about the children. Their test scores are always good, parental involvement is encouraged, and enrichment programs are great. My children have won various awards through SDES programs, both at the school and county levels, and the students here consistently excel in competitions and academics. The teachers at SDES come from many diverse backgrounds. The area is a western Georgia rural conservative region, and I live here understanding that (and preferring it personally). I believe academic excellence and a great environment for students should be important, and South Douglas does a wonderful job in both areas.
My youngest child will be leaving South Douglas this year, and is my last child to go through SDES. It has been a great six years. The teachers and others who work at the school always seem like they are happy to work there. The school is entrenched in the community and still seems to be the heart of the community with multiple generations of families coming to school events.
South Douglas is a Great School. They get little money & they use it properly. They do have problems with buses breaking down and out-dated air-conditioning, that can be very loud and distracting, but their test scores and parent ratings are extremely high. The School is well established. It's been around since the 1940's & Is still the Top Rated School in the County. We Love It!
We choose our house because we wanted a good school for our children. The test scores are consistently high for this school. The teachers and other staff have been friendly and welcoming. Although we have not been here long, we can already tell we made the right decision and can't wait to get to know everybody in this community.
This school needs more diversity. There are no African American teachers at this school, none. From what I understand it has been well over a decade since there has been any minorities. The majority of the teachers are middle aged, white, Protestant, females. I have felt undertowings, from other parents and staff ,of prejudices toward my family because we do not fit the profile for this school of white and protestant. Also, do not let your political opinions be known if you are liberal or even moderate, the majority of the residents of this community and the staff of this school express openly their extreme conservative leanings and are quite proud of them and assume everyone believes and votes the way they do. They would be wrong.
Awsome school! Love the teachers and the principles. Mr. Spence is great, and truly cares for the students.
My son is learning so much from Mrs. Goode and Mrs. Danger. I am so glad he has had such a great kindergarten experience. he loves going to school, and we love South Douglas. C.F.
This has been a great year! I was nervous about my daughter starting kindergarten, but the wonderful people at SDES have made it a great experience for her. The school still has that small town feeling that you don't get many places anymore. Their are some truly caring and extraordinary people working at South Douglas.
We love South Douglas. The teachers and all the staff are so friendly and genuinely seem happy to be there. My daughter can't wait to get to school everyday, she begs to leave early even. They care about the children, and their families. Every person gives of themselves to the students and the result is one terrific school! M.H.
