This school has had a great academic reputation for many years. The teachers are dedicated and encourage parent involvement. My child spent his entire elementary school career at this school and I had no complaints, until last year. Unfortunately, a member of the administration made a decision that exposed his lack of morale. This decision has affected the faculty. Where once there was unity, there is now a clear split due to immorality. I am glad my child is out of this school, as it seems to be that the beginning of this school year has shown signs of chaos.
The treaching staff are all awesome!! My daughter loved her teachers, Dr McGill and Miss Stewart!! They truly care about the students and teaching. If I had a problem it was taken care of the very day or next day I emailed or called the staff. I wish it was middle school too so my daughter could continue going there.
My daughter is in 1st grade and I am absolutely in love with this school!! They give a good amount of homework so i know exactly what she's doing and the teachers and staff are so nice!!!
Our kids has been attening Mt.Carmel elementary school since kindergten. The teachers, staff and parents work together to provid students with quality education, very dedicated to give gitted students every oppertunity to accel. The door open to the etire building for volenteers.Whether you have an hour or more each week.
My youngest son is a Kindergardner at MCES and I am extremely unahppy with the school. The expectations that they have fro 5-6 year old children amazes me. They have the kids play tag outside but then send home letters when a child is playing a little too aggressive. After speaking with other parents with kidnergardners there they have the same issues. The notes that are sent home for issues are rediculiuos. My son in high school does not have as strict administrators and staff as this school. I believe they need to step back and realize these are young children and need to be treated as such. They are more focused on there 'School of Excellence' title than the children themselves.
MCES is a wonderful school that offers many levels of academics in the upper grades to satisfy any childs learning capabilities. The teachers have always been very dedicated. Once the kids move on to the feeder middle school, they often stand out as high achievers. This school offers advanced classes in the 4th and 5th grades to those who score well on state testing, perform at consistantly high levels and need to be challenged. The Principal does a terrific job in keeping dicipline in check and keeps strict standards for behavior. I have been very pleased and feel that MCES prepares the kids for middle school and well beyond. The physical education teacher has been at the school for over 20 years and has a wonderful program for all ages and abilities. Music and art don't seem to get enough time due to the state budget. MCES offers academic clubs.
This school has gone through some changes in the last five years. The children have a restricted amount of time to socilize and they also have very decitated teachers. The children have to walk quietly in halls close to the rock wall. They have the Georgia Teacher of the Year in the Media Center, Mrs. Golden has made a wonderful addition to the school starting an in house morning tv station. The fifth grade students adution for positions of weather, sound, tech, and morning personalities. They change people every nine weeks witch gives the kids great experence. The Music and Art teachers move from middle and elementary every nine weeks, so they change what they are doing and do not get alot of time for exploration due to the budget from the state. Over all the school is good but there are some things that need changing.
