I am a parent of twin children. I have one child enrolled at this school and the other at Dublin Middle. I once had both enrolled here, but the bullying for our Asperger's son was out of control, and the school (and especially the principal) was not able to do anything productive about it, and didn't care too much about us wanting to be involved. There is also too much focus on sports, with an example that one time my daughter was required to sit in the bleachers at the football field during her Technology class while the teacher painted lines on the field for the upcoming game that week. If your child is a middle-of-the-road type of child or is strong with band, this school may do well for you. Before removing our son from the school, our daughter was not doing as well as she could have, being concerned about her brother's safety. After we moved him, her academics excelled.

The school is a fair school. I would give it higher scores except for the following: 1. Its draconian dress code. I have never seen a more severe dress code in any other school districts that I have had my children in. They ought to just put them in uniforms...but then again, most uniform dresses don't meet their onerous specifications. However my main points of contention are 2 and 3 below 2. Neither the school or the teachers utilize their web pages for student information (announcements, test dates, homework assignments, etc) like more progressive - and successful - schools do. (this is my main concern and almost made me give them an even lower score) They don't even have the school handbook online so that incoming students and parents will know the dress code. Nor do they keep their website updated. 3. Lastly they are lacking in foreign language classes (only Spanish - which really isn't "foreign" any more.) Other than that, it is a decent school with decent teachers, albeit somewhat "backwards".

I love this school. We have awesome themed days and the teachers are great. If you want to play sports you have to have good grades and i think that is good. I would never change schools. And you think every school has bullying? I admit we have a few bossy people but if you tell a counceler they will deal properly with the situation. We have hat days to raise money for a good cause and dances to raises money for school equipment and good causes. To future middle schoolers: middle school is great. You will not miss elementary one bit. But if you want it to be perfect, come to west laurens middle school. [[They also have great food. And the principle is so cool!]]
