Thrilled with the new principal who brings her A game and does a great job. We have had some really strong teachers and my children love the art teacher. Beautiful facility. Great parent community. All in all very pleased.
My child has just completed Kindergarten so she has a long way to go at DES. She had an awesome experience and a wonderful teacher. The teacher was very responsive to the needs of my child, to my email and also to my requests for my child. I appreciated her attention to detail around the safety of children with allergies. The teacher was a fantastic promoter of reading, sight words and learning in general. The 1000 most commonly used words in the English language list that she provided is stiil a list my child uses in first grade, only now she is learning to spell the words on the list.. I believe the experience your child has is largely related to the teach your child has and my child because of this teacher has a wonderful kindergarten experience at DES. If her first grade experience is half as good as her K experience, I will be happy.
My son has finished I grade and we are lucky to get great teacher for my son. He loves his teacher and enjoyed studying in DES.
I have found the office staff to be friendly and inviting. However, once you get to the administrative level (particularly the principal), he is extremely aloof, unorganized, and clueless to what is going on in the running of the school. My child had a bad experience this year, and when I tried to work the principal, no solution was determined, due to his lack of knowledge at the elementary school level. I am looking forward to working with the new principal, who seems much more competent.
I have been extremely pleased with our experience thus far at DES! My son is in Kindergarten and started the year at a school in Gwinnett. We were worried that he would have a tough time transitioning when we moved to Dunwoody over Christmas, but his teacher, Ms. Price, has been amazing. The PTO is really active and parent involvement is high all around--a key sign for success at any school. The facilities are great (new building, this is the first year the school has been open as a full PK-5 school) and the teachers are really creative in their teaching methods. I have always been able to get in touch with his teacher and the staff is approachable too.
We love Dunwoody Elementary! The teachers are engaging, the principal is approachable, the PTO is very active in planning great activities and programs for both parents and students, and the facilities are fantastic. There is plenty of outdoor space for kids to run off their excess energy and the indoor space is bright and spacious.
We have been very pleased with Dunwoody Elementary. They have music twice a week and now have a great science class. My two kids love their teachers. If you can get into the Kasser Prescott Academy (KPA) for third grade you will be very happy. They are awesome. Being a Georgia Tech alumni, I am proud to have my kids attend Dunwoody Elementary.
