If you want a high school that excels in academia, fine arts, especially band, athletics and is culturally diverse, then this is the school for you. Being the oldest school in the county, it always gets a bad rap, but 2 of my children have excelled academically and thrived on belonging to band and the nationally recognized marching band. I have heard of more problems with drugs and violence in the surrounding county schools then ours, as the administration makes it clear that it will not be tolerated. I highly recommend this school.

Schools of Excellence offer instructional programs that meet rigorous academic standards, have supportive and learning-centered school environments, and demonstrate student achievement results that are significantly above the average for comparable schools. In addition, FCHS is a high school that always shows improvement in student achievement, improvement in reducing dropout rates, improvement in standardized test scores, implementation of advanced or innovative programs, implementation of the goals and purposes of jobs through education, improvement in parent and community involvement, improvement in parent, teacher and student satisfaction, improvement in student attendance and other factors which promote excellence in education. I have the highest respect for FCHS students and educators/administration and so blessed my daughter has been a part of this school district for 10 years!!!Class of 2013!!!

Outstanding school. Tough curriculum and first rate education. The teachers are great - Mr. J. Miller is the best math teacher you'll find. Kudos to the administration and staff.

forgetful teachers that cost their students $120 because they forget to write down who turned in what.

Posted March 22, 2010

Had higher expectations of the FCHS as a part of the Fayetette County Schools. There are plusses & minuses of FCHS, like others have pointed out; but unqualified teachers (like in Chemistry - pointed out by another parent, and overheard in conversations in public places) must be allowed to move on and do what they are good at, and needs TO be substituted by qualified certified individuals. A student's loss of interest is not limted to just that, but a potential loss of higher educational opportunities in such and other related careers. Staff members of the school appears to be trying their best; but their slimmer numbers and growing student size can only add to the discrepancy in student to faculty ratio and, obvious, downward spiral. We expect quality education & we demand such. Wake up FCHS; waiting ( for a new Supt. to join) isn't an option; do something, Now!

When I see a review about a specific subject area, or program you have to wonder if it is unbiased The Science programs at FCHS are wonderful, possibly the best in our county. Students annually place the highest in the county at the Science and Engineering Fair and most years go all the way to the National level. Our Acedemic team just placed 2nd. in the State. Our Band progrm is head and shoulders above all other schools in the county. Yes, there are times when a teacher and student do not gel, but this happens everywhere. I would have a good long sit down with your student and put the responsibility on their shoulders - you are not still in Middle school, these are young adults and they need to take responsibility for their personal success. Most likely this parent is and never has been very active.

The Principal shows no concern or authority when reporting a complaint in reference to education. The principal do not respond in a timely manner. The teachers are allowed to slack in their expected performance. Parents involvement is not supported. Fayette County High school has the highest failure in Chemistry.

My son transferred here in his junior year and could not be happier. His grades are great and has not had one single complaint. Everyone seem extremely friendly and supportive. My son has stated that he loves this school and it was the best move ever. What a wonderful statement for a parent to hear

FCHS is wonderful! We have teachers that go out of their way for our children. Our kids excel in academics but also in the fine arts and sports. FCHS is not just a school, but a large extended family.

What I love about Fayette County High School are the great children that attend there. When ever they represent their school while away at sporting events, they are commended on how well behaved they are.

When i went to this school, the teacher's where so nice and they would take the time to explain something if you had a question about anything.

I have been so pleased with this high school, my children (both of them) have had some amazing teachers and the school is always on top of things which I appreciate greatly! My child is in AP classes and is doing very well. There are teachers at this school that are just amazing and we truly appreciate them.

I was a student at Fayette County until my Senior year when I moved to Kansas. I never realized how wonderful the school was unitl I was no longer there. I have been out now since '02 and I still wish that I would have stayed at FCHS and been with my classmates and teachers. At FCHS the teachers really care and take interest in the students. Those who are there now need to erralize what a wonderful school they are attending. At a large school like FCHS, you can always find a place to fit in. Thank you for the wonderful memories!

I am a current student at this school and I think the quality of education we recieve exceptional. The school may have more 1,500 students, but you can still have one-on-ones with the teachers. They go beyond their boundaries to help us students. We have Teacher of the Year (for 2005), Jan Daniel teaching at our school and one of the best chemistry teachers ever (Shane Kuykendall). All the teachers here have a great attitude and it seems like they love what they do. Going to this school has completely diversified my group of friends and its just so amazing to see how nice and welcoming people are.

I attend Fayette County High, I'm a senior! I really think the teachers go above and beyond expectations to help everyone! Our academic program is awesome! There is so much to offer at FCHS, many clubs to join, teams to be on, a lot of variety! I don't think the parent involvement is all that great, they could do more! Fayette County is changing drastically, but I do believe that they do all they can at FCHS to make it a place to learn, and it is fun, safe and they do a lot of the students!!

I used to be a student at this school but now i go to a private school and i am so much happier. Not only did this school feel like a prison, but i felt like i didnt matter. There are so many people that there is no way to get a one on one student teacher interaction.I was very depressed and bored here.I ended up skipping all of the time because i hated it so much.Eventually i had missed about 64 days of school and the school did not get in touch with my mom not once! I admit it was a bad thing for me to do, but i was so sick of this school. The principles are horrible as well. All they do is write you up for every little thing instead of trying to sit and identify the problem face to face. One word: HORRIBLE

My view of the culture or falcuty at this school is that students are not encourage to set stretch goals. They are allowed to be comfortable with an a outlook of being 'good' or average. I find that it is counter productive at home to stress that 'good' is the enemy of 'best' when the school atmosphere doesn't support the same theory. Maybe the Counselors' are just overworked, but my discussions have not been met with sincerity.

My child is a Sophmore this year and really enjoyed her Freshmen year. She had some wonderful teachers last year which encouraged her and her classmates to acheive their best. So far this year she hasn't felt the teachers are in tune with students personally as much as the ones were last year.I hope that it improves as the weeks go on. Apart from that they seem to have a very high standard in their teachers.I think the school is way too big though. Over 2,200 students and it gets very crowded in the hallways to which I worry could cause problems with student interaction and security. They need to keep the safety and wellbeing of the students a priority.
