Huie is an excellent school. There are hard working, dedicated teachers who give 100+% to the students that they teach.

I must say that the teachers seem to be warm and very caring and I appreciate the unity when it comes to uniform, for grades pre-k throught six.

My son was a student at Huie for three years. I also teach at Huie. Over the 6 years that I have been at Huie, I have seen dramatic changes in the academic program, which have consistantly raised the scores of failing minority children. Huie's standardized test performance led to their passing the state's AYP list this year. I particularly appreciate the programs in place to assist non-English speaking parents. Huie is proud of its culturally diverse population and believes every child can learn. I am proud to teach at Huie. I am proud that my students get along with each other, regardless of race or culture. The diversity breeds respect. I would recommend Huie to parents of every race and background. I think our administration and discipline are the keys to our success. The focus on hands-on manipulatives, experiments, and technology motivates students to learn. Come and see for yourself.

I moved my kids from the Hawthorne. Hawthorne was great for youth with a suburban perspective/upbringing. It was a nightmare for my kids. My kids repeatedly scored average to high on standardized tests but were near failing in class. At the same time, I saw other kids barely passing to performing average on standardized test bringing Excellant grades home to their parents. Those actions destroyed my kid's scholastic performance. Within a years time, Huie has reversed all of the damage done by Hawthorne. I agree that Huie has its problems. However, I can testify to the improvements in my kids.

The claim of racism by this parent is very serious. It's a claim that should be addressed by the principal of this school--unless the principal actually does support racism. In which case, the principal should be fired. We're living in the 21st Century America; the Civil War is over and in this day of terrorism, we need to come together as a 'whole' nation. We are all Americans; Black, White, Red, Yellow, etc...

The staff at this school have issues regarding diversity. They tend to favor the caucasion students and degrade the minority students. This behavior is the reason why the school overall is not performing. The principal and the office staff support racism and openly discriminate againsts African American students and parents.
