Harris County High is an excellent school. There are some teachers who have lost some of their passion for teaching and just seem to be "coasting" to retirement, but that is a problem everywhere. On the whole, though, the teachers are passionate about their subjects and make tremendous efforts to get students excited about learning. There are so many extracurricular activities and clubs, there's really something for every interest. The administration is a little out of touch with the "front line" business of teaching and learning, but again, that's a common problem in any school. When I was a student there were security cameras on all halls and common areas, which gave students (and teachers, I'm sure) a great sense of security. Typical teenage drama aside, I really enjoyed my time there. I went on to attend Wesleyan College in Macon, GA on a full academic scholarship, if that tells you anything about the quality of an HCHS education.
Harris County has developed into much more than the 'little hick school' that it used to be considered. The majority of the teachers are caring and want to see their students succeed. Yes, some of the rules can be a little overbearing, but the students need to have regulations and discipline. The athletics are above par and the effort put in by the faculty, staff, and students is evident every day. I enjoyed high school so much there I am wanting to become a math teacher, so I can come back and teach there.
The senior staff is difficult to work with. They are condensening to parents, unfair to students, and general 'dis-respectful' to all that do not agree with their views. Unfortunally it is the only high school in Harris County, and the school board does not review their teacher in an unbias manner to determine what goes on in the classroom and how the teachers treat students.
From a teacher's point of view, HCHS is an excellent school. The administration is supportive and student-focused. While the school has a 'country' laid-back environment, it takes academics seriously, cutting no corners. And, of course, the students couldn't be better!
The environment is one that cannot be replaced. The small town vibe where you graduate high school with the same kids as you enter pre-k with is hard to find and a great way to go through school. The academics are challenging as well as having award-winning clubs and sports. There is something for everyone with the introduction of new clubs and activities yearly it's a can't miss oppurtunity.
Harris County High School is an excellent school. The teachers as well as the students are friendly, and caring. The school has an outstanding academic program where a large variety of classes are offered, as well as athletic. They are known for the State Champion cheerleading squad. Their baseball, football, basketball and softball teams are also very well known. This school is also fairly newly built, with an awesome auditorium where many outstanding school productions are performed. Great school.
Harris County High School provides the best education your child can get. The teachers are caring, and pay attention. How ever some Principles are too strict on the kids. They need to allow them a little more freedom.
The school is alot better than the middle school. The band teacher mr. Grrover is the best. He has done so much since taking over. My son appears to be much more happier in high school.
Great school, but looses too many good teachers due to principal's leadership. I'm surprised that Harris County would let this leadership continue. It's pretty bad when politics gets in the way of our childrens education.
Harris County High is far from being the 'little hick school' that it used to have a reputation for being. The teachers there are caring, driven, and professional. Harris County is a wonderful place to live and the quality of education is improving every single day.
