Kennesaw Charter Science & Math Academy 5

I have a child currently enrolled and one entering Kindergarten. We have been very happy with our child's education and his development while at the school. I, personally, appreciate the administrations involvement and know they, along with the dedicated teachers, care very deeply for the students that go there. I have friends children who have gone on to middle school and are well above their peers. Along with the parents help, they have credited KCSMA with helping the student be better. No school is perfect, and Kennesaw Charter is no exception, but the staff listens and constantly strive to get better.

No it does not. Especially when the assistant principal's kid sets a terrible example. The leaders are not respectful either.

Once again the leaders do not have those qualities. You must teach by example first.

It is hard to develop those qualities in the students when the leaders don't have those qualities.

Last Thursday was such a relief to walk out the doors of Kennesaw Charter for the last time. If you hear how wonderful and amazing it is, ask if the person's child is currently enrolled there. Many honest people will tell you that it is no longer the school it used to be. Pretty building, but looks are deceiving. They like to talk about getting a STEM certification soon. Kind of hard to do when your internet doesn't always work, the computers are all outdated, the few smart boards that they do have are not working, and the bills aren't paid on time to vendors or utilitiy companies. They even missed loan payments for the building. No one can really explain where the cash they take in disappears to. A large piece of playground equipment is not able to be used due to safety issues. The principal and assistant principal are often overheard saying negative things about parents and teachers. If they don't like you- watch out! Your child will be targeted by them if they have any issues at all. They seem to be looking to label kids so they can get more funding. It is sickening! Walk down the halls and you hear screaming teachers. They didn't allow any students with any sort of unpaid balance no matter how small participate in field day this year. Ridiculous! Do yourself a favor and look at other schools. You may have one or two good years but it doesn't last. Every summer they have 20-30 teachers leave. The art projects your kids will bring home consist of a painted paper plate and a folder with worksheets. In technology class they play computer games when the computers are working or they just watch movies. Science class is good- great teacher who cares. In music they use their hands as instruments or listen to the teacher play her instrument. Your kids will not get the well-rounded education and experiences that they deserve. Wish it was better, but it keeps going downhill.

Do not let the high ratings fool you. The climate rating that is reported is from the 2013-2014 school year. We kept hearing about how wonderful KCSMA was- great teachers who really cared, a real family atmosphere, and the high academic level. Unfortunately that was how it USED to be. Things have changed dramatically for the worse during the past two years. The great teachers who care have either left or are leaving. The teacher turnover is extremely high. Perhaps it is due to the lack of effective leadership on an administrative and lead teacher grade level, low pay, issues with health insurance premiums and taxes being paid in a timely manner, or even the low morale that is ever present. The family atmosphere no longer exists. and the current academic level is only maintained by the higher grade level teachers who strictly teach the students to pass the tests. There are still a handful (15 or less) of teachers who truly love their students and effectively teach their students how to learn. This school needs a major administrative staff and school board overhaul to succeed.

KCSMA is a pretty school however they are so busy trying to protect the school good image that alot of the things that go on inside you won't know of unless you were involved personally. The principle and vice principle don't handle issues intelligently and Kcsma seems to master the smaller things book fairs, stem projects, kids night out, chick fil a biscuits in the morning gets maximum attention. Threats, offensive gesturing, Etc almost gets covered up. Also I guess its a college because everything is electronic. If you dont email an individual you get no answers. Beware great school academically. Administration is the worse!!!

KCSMA is a wonderful place. When you walk in, it feels like home. The staff truly loves every child and you can see that. They have gone through some growing pains, which is typical of any school that doubles enrollment in a few short years. Parent involvement is very important. Teachers will always have ways for you to volunteer. The PTO is pretty cliquey, but I've found my niche by going straight to the principal and letting her know how I would like to help the school. All in all, a great school and so much better than our local school.

Kennesaw Charter is a great school and has the potential to be even better but in order to get there they need new board members and better leadership. Mrs. Frey, the principal, seems to care about the kids and the school but doesn't seems as concerned about the teachers or the morale in the school. The board and some of the office staff don't seem qualified to be in their jobs and need to be replaced. They have been with the school too long and bring baggage into their jobs from the problems the school had in the past.. The communication from the school is very bad. The website rarely works and it seems they always wait until the last minute to send out information. I'm sure it is not the case, but the school board and the office staff just seem very unorganized and seem to not care about keeping the parents informed. I stay with the school because I hope to see change very soon and mostly because my kids love the school, love their teachers, and are getting a great education. The differentiated learning that is used makes all the difference, and so do the small class sizes. With a better school board and stronger leadership, KCSMA could fix many of their problems

KCSMA the school that could and hope it will. It is by FAR NOT the "mecca" of public schools. It has great potential, but needs assistance. For the newbies Ms. Frey the principle has done quite a bit to improve the school from it's humble and trouble past, she is dedicated however just a bit abrasive. Seems uninvolved at times and this may come across as not caring, but deep down she cares. Tthe newly appointed VP was not the best candidate and there was some underhanded operations to get him in that position The board members are arrogant , with inappropriate comments and jokes at meetings. The meetings are uninviting and if you are not familiar with the order of operations it may be intimidating. Attend anyway and voice your opinion 90% of the teachers are WONDERFUL, dedicated and caring. The major reason why the school is what it is today. You'll get what you put into your childs education. Parent involvement is a MUST, in the class as well as assisting with committees. The PTO is wonderful and always attempting to make improvements. Please assist, lend a helping hand as much as you can, it REALLY makes a difference. Looking forward to another great year KCSMA veteran
