This school is the worst I have ever seen with issues of bullying. My child has bullies at school and on the bus and then they taunt him all the way home. No one wants to do anything about it. The school doesn't help with these issues at all. It's out of control at this school. I wouldn't recommend any parent to send their kid to this school. I know several parents with children going through the same issues.

I am very disapointed by this school. The teachers try so very hard to keep the students under control, but the students still act up. The students are influenced by the wrong things. The bully rate is sky high here, even I had issues being bullied. The principal leadership is very poor also. And, the ones that are doing their work and making the A's are the ones being bullied because the failing kids are intimidated by their abilty to suceed. It literally takes 20 minutes for the the teacher to get all of the students under control. We spend more time getting lectures than doing schoolwork. Kids here love to fail and be a "bad boy/girl", they simply think it's cool.. The classrooms are way too big for one teacher. This school is cheap and has a terriblle learning envoriment. Period.
Awtrey's trachers have been so helpful and cooperative with regards to my son and his special educational needs.

This is my first year at Awtrey, and I think that this is the BEST school I have ever been to. But for a person like me, I want to be able to show my talents, but there is no kind of group here to join to do that. But other than that, Awtrey is a great school :)

Awtrey has wonderful teachers, counselors, and administrators that care about the students and their educational goals. The principal does not tolerate bullying or disorderly conduct. Many parents outside of the school think Awtrey has a bad reputation, but it is not true. My child is an honor student at Awtrey.

I have been going to this school for the past 2 years,I am now in the 8th grade. These past years have been very great. All the teachers have been exceptionally nice, the only time teachers have been mean is if a student is bieng insubordant. Overall this school is a wonderfull school.

I've been going to this school since 6th grade and im about to graduate from here this year and going to North Cobb High School. I like this school but the students here are not that much nice. The students here are mostly bullies and im not telling a lie because the longer I have been here I have seen alot what have happened. Don't get me wrong I love this school because they want us to do great in our education. If the students had a better attitude then I will give the school 5 stars.

My daughter attends Awtrey and has had great teachers in the 6th and 7th grades. The principal is an excellent leader and really cares about the students!

It has been my experience that this school is certainly not one of the better Cobb Cty schools. This school has failed in teaching students critical thinking & problem solving skills. Instead, the curriculm appears to be CRCT based. Those in target classes are doing quite well, it is the general population that gives me much concern. Labeling has become common.

i don't see [why] so many people say, 'oh my gosh Awtrey is the worst school ever'! well im a student that goes here and has siblings that has gone here and is saying that Awtrey is a great school. I mean its not the bet but it's a good school and I learn a lot there.

Awtrey is a great school. The principle is the best in town. The bullying rate has been completely solved. New rule have been issued toward that situation. Awtrey also has some of the best teachers in the county. One in Social Studies, and the other in Language arts. I would gladly recommend that Awtrey is a great school for your child.

My son has attended Awtrey for two years and is doing very well. The target programs are excellent. We find his teachers very accessesible to us. We have not had any problems with the school at all.

I am very disappointed in Awtrey. Most of the teachers are rude and just don't care. The administrators are horrible. Bad attitudes are all over this school. I wouldn't recommend this school for my child. This was my child's first year there and if I have to do it again, she wouldn't go there. Not impressed at all.

My daughter has been bullied and harassed at Awtrey for 2 years. We have not other choice but awtrey or loose a income and home school which we are just about ready to do! To crowded even with the split, poor preperation for high school. I've had 2 other children who both needed intensive tutoring in freshman year to catch them up to par. NO NO NO, do not send you child if at all possible!

I have had one child go through Awtrey and I must say this school did not prepare her for high school. What she did get out of the school was music. She is a fantastic musician. But music will not get her through life. A good well balanced education will. My second child will be leaving this school come May. She pretty much holds her own yet since the school was divided and half of the children and teachers went to Barber Elementary the school has fallen well below educational expectation. Again the music program is awesome. I have heard from teachers in the North Cobb High School that the math program does not prepare these children for High School.

I have just graduated from awtrey last year. I have to say, its not a good school at all. The teachers do not teach. Most teachers are nice, with the exception of a few. There are a lot of gang/drug problems. Kids have no freedom here.

I disagree with the last comment, it is the teachers and parents job to educate our children, I have 2 children currently at Awtrey and we have had issues with grades from both of them at times, but lets remember that middle school is probably the toughest time in a students life, with hormones and peer pressure coming into play. I make sure I go to the open house before school starts and I meet with all of their teachers and give each my phone number and email address, I communicate with them all regularly through out the year, in good times and in bad. As for discipline I blame the school board, Awtrey is at almost double the capcity it should be, but a new school opens in 2005 so that should help. I also work at another middle school in an affluent area-they also have the same problems.

I have a daughter that attends Awtrey and she hates it. She complains that the teachers do not have time to listen to the students when they try to express themselves about a situation and that is very frustrating. I do not like this school and will be removing my child from this school as soon as school ends I'm from up north and this school is the worst, there's no programs for the students who are struggling except in the morning well what about the parents who children can't make it @ 8:00am do the children just suffer and just continue to struggle. Yes we as parents have to help but them as teachers get paid to teach and they need to do just that. Yes teachers are under paid but this is the job/career they choose so do your job. Thank You New York
