cont of post on June 29, 14: Yes, GOES is dedicated 2higher learning but they are truly more focused on their reputation as a "10" rated school & test scores. They r really only dedicated 2a select group of kids & not ensuring all their students are exceling at their best. (this school exercises nepotism towards certain kids especially those of southeast asian backgrounds & their parents only stick with one another, very clickish) They rather pass students just 2keep their ratings high. And most parents and staff are not going to admit that GOES has flaws that desperately need to be addressed only because if it doesn't directly affect them they don't care. If your looking for a school like how greatschools describes parent involvement as being treated as a partner not an outsider & wld like 2be included in every aspect of your child's education while also being part of a family oriented environment then GOES is not the place 2send your child. Desperately hoping the new school year will be dramatically different but sure wish we were going elsewhere.
I love this school! And I go to this school. I mean things could be better. But the teachers are very nice and hard working. All the special teachers are nice and funny. Trust me you will not regret this school.
Best school ever! Teachers really care about the students and their learning. Parents and students both love this school.
Fantastic teachers, administration and staff. A wonderful neighborhood school dedicated to higher learning! We've been very pleased with the school so far and our kids love going every day!
I Originally thought, "Wow, the school is small.." But, that had NO Disqualifications when it comes to "Gwin Oaks!" This school and it's staff are More than DYNAMIC, they are Extremely DEDICATED to a Higher Standard of Education. Not to Mention a rating a "10!" (My personal point of view) Behavioral standards ex: Bullying, zero tolerance...The Teacher's usually keep this kind of behavior at a very low tolerance. Children WILL test this area BUT, Gwin Oaks is a "10" and Our Son Couldn't have made us More Proud! With the Front Staff & their attentative concerns and help along with the school counselor, (10+) and Whole staff, I couldn't express what Gratitude we have for 5 wonderful yrs. Our son is Now moving forward to Middle School! Many Great memories, The teacher's not only help student's that fall behind but push those that excel. Thank You Gwin Oaks and Whole Staff...
I recently visited Gwin Oaks Elementary School and I have to say that I was impressed. The administrative counselor Mrs. Pugh gave an awesome and thorough tour. Mrs. Pugh was very enthusiastic about this school and she answered all of my questions. The children seemed very happy and Mrs. Pugh knew all the lil ones by name. This seems to be a very down to Earth and nurturing learning environment. And I was most impressed with the fact that the school was in the middle of a power outage and the children were orderly and well behaved. And Mrs. Pugh pulled off the tour without a hitch when she obviously had her hands full
They truly care about the students and the families that attend the school.
This is our second year at Gwin Oaks. Our son was in Kindergarten last year. We had an outstanding teacher. She had 25 plus years experience. Starting in January, our son was having to write 4-5 sentences every day. That has really helped him for first grade. The jury is still out so far this year. So far, school has been really good.
Gwin Oaks is a great school when you get a great teacher , and there are few bad apples everywhere. The admistration has changed and I must say , I loved the friendliness and sincerity of the previous. However overall, it is a decent school. The worst thing is the design of the school, getting in and out is horrible.Apparently the architec and admin had no vision for future growth.
The teachers at this school have worked hard with us to keep my 2nd grader focused and on track. Her grades have steadily improved and the weekly reports and feedback, emails and conferences have been very helpful.
The teachers and administration at Gwin Oaks is the best I've seen. The teachers are all dedicated to student learning. The administration runs the school outstandingly. There is no better place to be than Gwin Oaks!
Very good school composed of mostly great teachers & staff. I have enjoyed my children going to school here.
Gwin Oaks is an outstanding school. My child has been attending Gwin Oaks Elementary for 2 years. I am very impresed with the staff. There is a sense of community throughout the entire building. Thanks to the administration for their spirit of excellence.
Both of my children have attended Gwin Oaks Elementary school. The administration leads the faculty in an effective way so that my children learn at the level where they can thrive. It is an exciting learning community with a wonderful PTA.
We have been a part of the Gwin Oaks community for three years and two children attend. Bith have good teachers and both are gifted and thriving, It is a WONDERFUL school, great teachers, good PTA, good administration (both old and new) and a strong community. We are very pleased to be there and will stay. Sorry to hear that a few had a negative experience I am sure that the administration will recieve the feedback to help improve the dissatisfactions. That is just how they are.
I agree with the other poster that noticed the change this year. My kids were there for years...but I now home-school my kids. I agree that the teachers are wonderful and they do deserve 5 stars-administration definitely is sub-par though. I too hated to go up to the office only to have to wait for the chatter to cease before they'd help me. So glad I'm done with all that now :o)
My daughter went there for 2 years and I must say that I didn't have the same experience as everyone else is writing here. The teachers my daughter had really didn't seem that concerned about her or her classmates and often made me feel like it was just a job for them. The staff, especially in the office, made me feel unwanted and whenever I went there I had to wait 10 mins for all the ladies to finish talking about personal stuff before anyone would address why I was there. This is not a school that I would say was fab by no means. Last year my daughter was sent to Craig where she blossomed and even made the honor roll.
What a difference a year makes! The climate at our school has completely changed! The new administration has left the PTA, the faculty, and the parents worrying about what will happen next. I guess we'll be moving soon as well. It's such a shame. They have such an awesome teacher base. Will we be without Reading Recovery next year? I give the staff 5 stars. Administration 0 out of 5. Our poor children - what can we do other than move?
The administration, faculty, and staff are all about learning and really care about the children.
