I had good experiences with this school overall. Some things are just apart of the process and because I was involved, I was able to get a good hold on things before they got out of control. Both of my children did great. However, I was very involved. I hope the same for this year.
McKendree Elementary School is a great school teachers work hard with the kids and keep parents up to date on a daly bases. Base on they academics and behavior which I love. We have a close relationship with my child's teacher he's great with her and her other teachers. I will recommend anybody to this school
McKendree is my child's school. So far, I have been very happy with it and look forward to another good year.
My child is in k i so proud of this school because they help him and the teacher are all nice.
This is my daughter 2nd year at Mckendree Elementary. Her kindergarden teacher was very caring and supportive about my daughter education she recognize my daughter's potentials. She alway exceeds in each subject. This year she is in the 1st grade and there's not enough words can explain how awesome her teacher this year is. I'm extremely satisfied with the staff members at this school and the academic program.
Teacher quality Principal leadership is excellent 2 kids through this school. could not be more pleased
My three children have attended McKendree for the past six years. We have four more school years to go to get all three through the school. The current principal is very nice and accomdating to parents. Just like the last principal if there is a parent concern you can reach her with those concerns. The teachers are well versed and great. I am pleased as a parent. It has not only a family feel, but excellent teachers. The only thing about the school that dissappoints me is the limited diversity in the staff. The area is very diverse, which I personally love, and the staff should be more diverse as well.
My daughter has been in McKendree since 2nd grade and she is now in the 4th. I have nothing but praise to say about this school. I am a hands on parent and very involved with my daughter's academic career. The teachers have been nothing but supportive with my daughters needs and progress in each grade. My experience with McKendree is that I am very extremely pleased with how things have gone thus far. I cannot speak yet on the principal because I have not met her ... YET!
Compared with the previous school my kid attended, the school needs more quality teachers based on my experience with an elementary school teacher. When I attended the first parent meeting and asked her questions, she spent only 5 minute answering my questions, but she talked to another parent she knows for more than 15 minutes. In the second parent's meeting, when I started asking her questions about my kid in her class, she said that "he is PERFEECt" and then stops. She is not patient and rude. I spoken to other parent about her, we both thought that she has her preference to some students in her class. My kid also told me that she always neglected him when he tried to answer her questions, which made him felt less confident.
For this consultant. Just because a parent complains about the school DOES NOT mean they aren't involved. Of course you are going to see the greener side of things because of your title. Until you have a child that attends there and isn't of the elite that they cater to, then you don't need to assume that all children are treated fairly at the school. For the record, I've heard several parents complain about mistreatment of students who aren't problematic. My child hasn't been protected by adults there, and I am deeply involved as a parent. You need to stay in your lane, and I'm saddened that someone like you is actually working for our schools when you obviously don't want to SEE a problem. That's why nothing is solved, that's what's wrong with education, one sided view. By the way, I teach too!
I am the mother of 3 African-American boys. So I guess I am considered 'minorty', I am a serious critic when it comes to my children. McKendree is as diverse as you can get in Gwinnett County, GA and it's in a nice area. I have never experienced any prejudice.I have encountered nothing but the best teachers, Dr. Dickson, Ms. Allred, and Ms. Botts at McKendree. The teachers are caring and the truly take an active role in teaching. This was our first year at McKendree and it has been a wonderful year. Tutoring has helped out my youngest son. His teacher also would let him come before class started so that he may catch up on his work. My children feel love and appreciated at McKendree. And Ms. Antrim will be missed they need more principals like her. I can't wait until next year.
I am a consultant and thus in lots of different schools across the country. I visit this school 6 times per year and am impressed with the teachers whom I work with in Kindergarten. The facility itself is light, bright, and filled with lots of attractive student generated artwork. The office personnel are friendly and kind. Criticism can come easy on an anonymous web page....especially by parents who are not involved in the school or those who do not understand the entire picture of education.
I do not know what these other Parents are seeing. But my child has never been so neglected in a school before. The Teachers are rude and very abrupt. I do not like how they treat or talk to the children. They have entirely too many children attending tutoring after school, and the direction of the teaching is not top knotch. I do feel that thereis some prejudice as well, when it comes to children of a minority. Once this school term is complete all of my children will be pulled from this school, and enrolled at a much better school found on this sight. All I can say to future potentials to this school, is to talk to your children. Ask them about the teachers, and the school. ETC This is not a good school. The principal needs to be replaced, and some of the teachers need to be re-evaluated.
I love McKendree! My kids have been through McKendree - 3 of them from K through 5th. Any complaints that I see are not the fault of the administration or staff or PTA but the county level. Administrators are not supported by the county office so, at times, teachers are not supported. The county needs to get a backbone and stand up to parents who are irrational. The principal has always been open to me and friendly to students.
I think Mckendree is an awsome school, I personally feel teachers and thepricipal areot in shcool to solve problem childrens problems, that is left to the parent.I thik yes , every time you turn your back they are asking for money for something. But overall the principal is very nice and the teachers are awsome nd always willing to help any way they can.f you are reading his review not knowing wether to home school or to pt your child in public school this scool is awsome the kindergarten teachers are great they don't get better then these guys and girls!A well if you ever get ms.Vigliotti well your are truly blessed because she is just the most awsome techer and should get teacher of the year ask any parent from the class of 08'.She is the most caring and no matter how bad her day is she always has a smile.
We are very disappointed with Mckendree. They have a few good teachers, but they are afraid to voice their opinion to anyone on how then could help your child who is experiencing a difficult time fitting in with the other kids. They introduce to you these programs which are surpose to help your child behavior, but you never see the program in action to see if the program exist. The principal is extremely rude and one-sided . She talks down to kids. Our child is not a problem child, but we have witness her get in our child face. The vice- president is so by the book she is unable to think for herself. They both claim they only want to help the child, but they are so quick to suggest special education or suspension to temporary solve the problem. The school has alot of fundraisers. We are always writing checks.
I agree with one of the posters. McKendree has some accountability problems. There are some great teachers, but some bad ones. The principal doesn't really seem open for dialogue with parents when there is a problem with students or teachers in regards to education. I worry that image is more important than the students.
The teachers do an excellent job of communicating with the parents. My child is starting his second year at Mckendree and loves it and can't wait to go back to school. The only negative thing I can say is I do think students could be challenged a bit more and more extra-curricular activities offered. The teacher my child had did her very best to challenge each and every child, but the gwinnett county Aks is too low and too much time is wasted on skills mastered in pre-k. Overall, I highly recommend the school.
My son has been at McKendree for 2 years now. We have been extremely happy with the quality of the teachers, the amount of communication between the teacher and parent, and the quality of his education. The 'Trip Around The World' night each year is especially fun and educational for all involved as you can learn about all the other nations that are represented within McKendree's student population. We couldn't be happier with McKendree.
Parental involvement is great, and there are some great teachers at McKendree, but there is a serious problem with teacher accountability. Too many times my daughter's tests are incorrectly graded and the only answer the school can provide is 'that is the answer in the book'. Example, 2+2+2+2=8 is incorrect because the teacher's manual says it's 6. Also, the school staff spends more time working with the PTA on raising money or selling you something than actually teaching the kids. My daughter brings fundraisers monthly, and every Friday there is something being sold by the school. To sum it all up, education is an after thought at McKendree as long as the school looks good and full of students.
