Very nice school my child enjoyed it except for the band director Mr. KIMBLE. She wanted To be on the drill team so bad but after dealing with Kimber she is no longer Interested and niether am I. The M.L.K drill team is the only girls that NEVER Get featured during half time shows, the band NEVER play music for them to dance to in the stands, all of the music he play is old and outdated but the dues are 700.00. My daughter won't be returning next year because I want her to enjoy her high school Years and he takes the fun out od the band:( other than that awesome school!
My son has been attending Martin Luther King Jr. HS since 9th grade and I must say that there are great number of teachers that are really dedicated to making sure that the students that are there for the purpose of learning, get the things that they are there for. On the other hand, if I had to do it all over again, I would risk going to jail to send him somewhere else. I believe that if they were checking residency, they would find that a large number of the students are out of district. Another thing, there is too much emphases on sports and band, not enough on making the school the best if could be from parents and this is shown in the numbers that come out to the meetings what there focus is on. I am so glad that this is our last year, but wish them well. I know that the numbers are really going to go up since the new 9th grade academy will be opening 2014-2015 school year. I do believe that if Dr. King was alive, he would not be proud of how his name is being represented, through parent involvement and school leadership. Bacically, our children have been set up to fail because they don't have the basic needs, BOOKS....... 12th grade parent
Horrible education wise, I'm in 10th grade transferred here this year, at my previous school I was taking regular classes, a few accelerated ones and doing well. After changing to this school I'm taking 11th grade classes and seeing material that I learned last year. I spoke to the counselor (he's already moved me to higher level classes several times) and Was told to just get A's in these classes. I'll be switching to a different school with a more challenging curriculum next year, if not later this year.
MLK is a wonderful school.... The teachers are devoted and will ensure that every child does their best..... Success is mandatory here... Yes... The children can be a bit out of line sometimes, but they understand that misbehaved students aren't tolerated..... This school is a great place for students to grow and learn... If Martin Luther King were still alive he'd be pleased to have such a prestigious school named after here.... It's a shame all students don't attend.
This is a horrible school. Their is alot of bullying and fighting. The teachers are great but the way the school is set up especially at testing time is a mess. I would rather figure out a way to pay for and get to a private school than go here any longer. Alot of the kids try to start and be in gangs and there is alot of stealing. Dont send your child here.
MLK is a great school and i would recommend anyone to send their child to be educated there. They have a great athletic program and numerous extra-curricular activities. Their activities help children in ways to where they wont be in the streets and up to no good. Their academic program is great because the teachers are preparing the students to succeed in their lives after graduation.
Martin Luther King is a wonder High School for students to attend. Like many students school becomes boring, but the teachers are willing to help the students who are less interested in a particular core class. Teachers provide many opportunities to the students to raise there grade, because like most teacher, they do not want to see us again. In my opinion Martin Luther King is a very well rounded school , and the teachers will provide there time to us, i.e after school tutorials and much more. NO teacher wants to see a child fail, because we are all human and we have feelings. So once again i like Martin Luther King and I am very grateful for the education i have recieved in my 4-years.
I love Martin Luther King Jr. High School. Our school embodies our alta mater "I AM KING" by not only providing exceptional teachers, but constantly encouraging us to work upon to our fullest potential and not upon stereotypes. Because we are a majority black school in the Dekalb County School System, people create false things not only about our school, but about other schools in Dekalb. Our school are the region champs for high school football, state champs for girl's track and field, and not only to mention that we have an IB program that most schools dont even have.
I am a student at Martin Luther King Jr. High school and my four years of attending this school for the most part has been pleasant and isn't a hostile enviornment like others may think it is. The teachers really care whether or not the students pass and will work with the parents and students to make that student successfull in the class. MLK is a great school filled with school spirit.
I love my school. I love coming here every morning and seeing my classmates that i've been with since the eith grade. We dont have any fights and we haven't been on the news for anything termed "bad" this year. I dont know why we get such a bad rep., because we are a great school and represent the Reverand Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. with pride and dignity everydayy.
MLK is a great school. we have teachers that are willing to die for our education and we have a great set of counselors who care about the students here at MLK . Based off this website we aren't to good of a school but as a student who will graduate from here can and will stand to say schools don't get any better then this. We also have a hard working principal who's really trying to make sure that everything goes right. This is the environment that you should want your kids to be in.
Martin Luther King Jr. High school is a excellent school, and improving ever year. I've been here since 9th grade and I am currently a Senior. The football team has been superb ever since I've been here. Embarrassing Stephenson football team is a memory for me. Most teachers try their best to get their lesson plan across to students. AP teachers are definitely helpful in all aspects. Class Of 2012 I AM KING !
I am currently a senior at MLK high school. Ever since we procured our new principal (Principal Everett Patrick) the atmosphere has been extremely positive and encouraging. My teachers are all people who truly care for their students and are concerned with their well being. The behavior has also improved tremendously from previous years. We have not had not on food fight this year and I can count the number of fights we have had on one hand. As a student here I am very proud to say that I attend MLK high school and would recommend this school to many upcoming freshman.
I have been an Martin Luther King Jr High School student soon to be alumni in 2012. I've attended this school for all four years and watched this school transpire into something great. This school has came a long way between the 2009-2012 school. Many changes have been made that have become beneficial to our school future. The students of M.L.K have put the school back on the map academically and athletically, thanks to Mr. Patrick our new principal of the school he has cracked down positively to ensure an ultimate success. I am proud to say I am an M.L.K student!!!!! c/o 2012
I am a senior at MLK , my high school experience has be wonderful at MLK. Everything I heard about MLK was absolutely incorrect! We have great teachers that would do anything to help their students learn and be prepared for life after high school! We are like any other school were there will be bad seeds in the bunch, but with the help of our community they have become obsolete. WE exceed in sports as well in class rooms. We are a all around ALSOME public school.
Hello i am a current senior (class of 2012) at MLK HS and i can confidently say that under the supervision of our principal Mr. Everett Patrick, MLK has substantially progressed in my eyes. When you hear about MLK you will automatically think violence and low grades. THIS ASSUMPTION IS FALSE. Every school has fights and gets out of order every now and then, but in all my four years of attending this school, I have seen a drastic drop in fights and other commotions. Our GHSGT scores have increased since last year and we get along as a class and support each other . One thing I have seen that does not matter is if your child has disabilities or is of another race then African American THEY ARE EQUALLY EMBRACED AND ACCEPTED.MLK is putting forth action that actively portray the same attributes as our own MLKing Jr.
MLK is an excellent school that you should be willing and pleased to send your child to. MLK is a school founded on the principles of service, excellence, and life-long learning and that motto has been proven truthful at this phenomenal school. MLK, in the midst of celebrating its 10th year as an inspirational educational institution, is a school that houses elite, world-class teachers that provide invaluable knowledge to each and every student that walk the hallways from the 9th graders to the 12th graders. We have our fair share of problems, I'll admit that with discipline issues and things, but doesn't any high school have these problems, though. The students, parents, faculty, staff, and administrators at MLK all don't allow all of these negative connotations and comments that people spread about the school be proven right, because they aren't. MLK offers an impressive education to all of its students, providing the International Baccalaureate and the Advanced Placement programs at the school for all students to possess and acquire a rigorous, but helpful world-class education, complementing MLK as a school of merit and immensely, talented students and supportive parents.
Martin Luther King, Jr. High School is the name of this school for a reason. The high school consists of many different and successful organizations, clubs, as well as education programs. Leadership is of something special when it comes to this school and the talk of this school meets the hype. The students are taught very well by credible and helpful teachers. The students of the school work together in many ways and throughout the years have become a family. I'm proud to be in the graduating class of 2012 as a Mighty Lion.
Many of the teachers at this school definitely do not work with concerned parents to keep teens on track. I will celebrate when we no longer have to deal with MLK High School!
MLK High School is finally returning to its former glory. The Principal Mr. Patrick (formerly of Druid Hills) is leading the school in the right direction. The school has effectively gotten rid of the trouble makers which has noticeably reduced the overcrowdedness (which at one time was an issue). It is also the only school on the south end of the county with an IB Program (which is also flourishing). The school excelled in all of the academic criteria to make AYP, but will have to wait until next year until they receive full AYP status... a technicality. The school has an excellent football team and a decent lacrosse team. Students from Arabia Mountain have returned to the school due to the strides they have been making over the past several years. Many of the graduates are accepted in to the nation's top colleges and the IB Program ensures multiple scholarships for the top students in the state. If you haven't taken a look at King in a while, take another look. The band has performed in South Africa and was personally invited to the MLK dedication in DC. You can't help but feel excited when you hear the students and faculty shout the school's mantra, "I AM KING"!
