If your child is an average student this may not be the school for them as ALL classes are accelerated - whether past grades or test scores indicate they should be. Love the facility and uniform policy and the atmosphere that it created but the tons of homework, very late nights, and stress were not worth it. My child started there in 9th grade but we moved him to the home school after his first 10th grade semester - a semester too late. And we weren't the only one who withdrew. Looking at the eSis grades, it it obvious that a large percentage of the students (at least in my child's classes) were struggling. It's one thing to demand excellence from your students but that's hard to accomplish when you have a very high teacher turnover rate and a lot of the teachers are young and/or inexperienced. And they even admitted at a recent meeting that their tutorial sessions are not very effective. I'm sure Arabia will be a good school one day but we could not wait for that to happen.
My son started here on opening day. The quality of teachers are overall great. As with any new school, you have to weed out the worse. (and there were a few) They have to understand that even though you are preparing the student for college, they are not there YET. The principal was just a storefront. I hope the new one is much better on the interaction with parent and handling concerns versus covering them up to make the school look good. Last year here and I hope it's a great year.
I attended AMHS for the 2 years that it has been open. I have had some very bad experiences there, I understand its a new school and I think that is one of the things that really bothered me about it. It was TOTALLY unorganized when it came activities for after school or something extra curricular. The teachers were good but you could tell they didnt enjoy working there because of the disorganization and the rude staff (administrators) I was in a carrer pathway class for healthcare without a teacher for a whole entire sememster! We learned nothing AT ALL! The staff was rude and didnt really want to be there either. The students did mainly WHATEVER they wanted and didnt really follow the rules. I think it would have been better if there was more involvment within the school (parents and others that sponsor the school are great) if there was more caring and me sincerity than it would be a great school...By the way I will not be attending that school next year.
This has been a really good school experience. The school has high expectations for its students. With any new program, it does have few kinks, but it has the right support to make the needed modifications for an excellent school. Positive parent involvement is the key to any successful school operation and Arabia Mountain has it. Students have many opportunities to display and fine tune their skills. talents and abilities. I highly recommend this school for a student and family that is serious about education.
