First I will say my child loves this school. Hopefully this year will be as successful. We are in the lower school and I will say they have a fantastic leader in Mrs. Brostrand. She is firm but fair. My downside is having to deal with the parents, They try to make if appear as if they are having all inclusive social gatherings but if you don't pass a certain litmus test they are only nice enough to appear to be good Christian folks. I can do without that. The moms are very cliquish. Overall solid education and value.
I currently attend Whitefield and I have really enjoyed the last 4 years I have attended. The teachers are all extremely educated and look out for each of their students. Because of the small size of Whitefield (there are pluses and minuses to the size), the teachers are really able to give each and every student personalized attention if you seek it out. The school is small, so it can be hard to find "your place," but for the most part, you will find people in each grade level who are extremely friendly, who don't really fit into any group, who are willing to be by your side on a walk to lunch or otherwise - just genuinely nice, Christian kids. Of course you are going to find the kids who are not at Whitefield because they want to be, but because their parents are making them, and this leads to a lot of biased, bitter opinions. Whitefield reaches out to every type of student, but it benefits those who learn to ignore those who are simply being self-destructive (the bullies, mean girls, and other cliche groups that plague every school), and focus on the genuine, Christ examples that Whitefield does have. School is school, it's what you make it. WA does have an amazing program.
As someone that previously attended Whitefield Academy for 5 whole years, I believe that I have witnessed all that it had to offer for me and my classmates as well as those to come in the following generations. (Though I hope not.) If you're looking for a school with right-wing conservative views that do a marvelous job of sheltering your child from the real world, a huge number of two-faced bullies amongst both the student body and faculty, and enough assigned homework to guarantee that your son or daughter won't have the time for a healthy, fun social life until they graduate, then boy have you come to the right place. The framework that this school is built around is Christianity, but rest assured, the vast majority of the both the teachers and the students demonstrate routine acts of intolerance, verbal abuse, bullying, and judgement. There is a cruel, cold air surrounding the campus of this college preparatory school, and it actually thrives and grows as you move up the grade levels. Venturing outside of what is considered normal and proper, (missing a day of shaving or expressing your individual opinions in any art piece, assignment, or venue) is met with strict opposition.
Whitefield is a phenomenal community of families committed to raising awesome kids who are challenged academically and prepared for college. Our children have flourished at this school with teachers going above and beyond to connect with them and form personal relationships as mentors. They are encouraged to participate in a variety of sports and a great performing arts program. You can tell that this school is about to take off because of the new high school and word getting out that this is a solid choice for a great education.
Wow. Has exceeded all initial expectations. Our son has been there for almost 4 yrs now and our daughter is in her second yr. Both love it. Most importantly, we love it too. It's like a large family across many grade levels. The teachers are absolutely incredible and genuinely care about the kids. The lower school principle is very involved and is fantastic. We couldn't be happier. It's worth the investment.
I am a current student at Whitefield Academy and have been attending it for 7 years. Overall my experience has been great! The school has a very uplifting atmosphere and great academics. The classes are very challenging at times but the teachers are willing to help you outside of class in order to insure success. There is a very strong sense of community within the teachers and students which is one of the school's main focuses this year. Looking back on my years here, I recognize that there have been faults along the way, but I would never consider attending school anywhere else. I feel that by attending Whitefield I have become more confident in myself and in my walk with God. The teachers are very openly Christian and this is an extremely important part of our school for students, teachers, and faculty. As a senior I have started the college search and feel very confident that I will be succesful because of the foundation that Whitefield has instilled in me about working hard and doing your best.
Whitefield Academy presents me as, a teacher, with the opportunity to work along side top-notch colleagues as we strive to work together to construct opportunities for students to recieve a first rate education.
Whitefield is a great place to go to school because it prepares you for all aspects of college. I play football at Whitefield and this has molded me into a person of character on and off the field. The coaches encourage me to always do my best, as well as the teachers. Although, the academic curriculum is rigorous, it prepares you to succeed in college and later in life.
My children have attended Whitefield Academy for several years and we love it! The teachers are excellent teachers who also love children. They are also great role models. There are plenty of great extra-curricular activities available for almost any interest area a child might have. There is a true family atmosphere. We love it!
I am currently a student at Whitefield and have had a wonderful experience here. Sure it may have it's issues, but not unlike any other school out there. The school work is challenging and requires work, but there are so many ways to receive extra help from either older students or teachers. Every morning before homeroom, teachers hold extra help" sessions to provide aid in the completion of homework and answer any questions one might have. The teachers are extremely personable and if approached the right way, are more than happy to help with any in school or out of school issues. The students are loving, but like teenagers everywhere, if they see someone that does not smile and does not appear approachable, will be cautious in reaching out. There are, however, students here that do reach out to students that appear unhappy, if that student is open to being approached. Whitefield teaches it's students to love and to put others ahead of self. There are several opportunities to do so. For instance, one day this past month, the entire high school went out and served the community in various ways like delivering canned food to those less fortunate.
Whitefield Academy is a wonderful school with so many opportunities for students, parents, and faculty/staff to get involved with. From Community Service Days to numerous athletic teams to drama/music performances, there is so much activity going on that everyone has the opportunity to get involved and be a part of Whitefield. Parents get involved volunteering and joining various groups on campus from being a "team" mom/dad to helping to organize an event. Also, just walking through the halls or across this campus, you will find teachers and staff members in the halls talking or outside speaking with students-no matter what is on their schedule. The community at Whitefield is unlike any other school in Atlanta and when you come on to campus and meet the students, the faculty, and the staff, it is a very noticeable difference-even local businesses who are near the school comment about how nice, respectful, and gracious our students are. It is a great place to work. The school encourages its employees to get involved in a school activity outside their classroom or office. It supports its employees to continue a "passion for learning" through continuing education opportunities.
My three children have all attended Whitefield. Two of them are in college and one is still a sophomore there. Whitefield offers a great education and has a wonderful community environment. The teachers really care about their students, and can often be found not just teaching their subject, but engaged in conversations about life and faith. There were many times when I would call my daughter to see why she wasn't home from school yet, and she was with a teacher and a friends just talking about life. One of the things I appreciate about Whitefield is the diversity there. There are people from all different backgrounds and international students as well. I also feel that while Whitefield is a Christian school, offering a Christ-based education, the teachers try to teach students to examine their faith; they don't just feed them Sunday school answers. My daughter was in a Senior Bible class which met around a large round table; she and her classmates had many lively discussions about cultural issues, Christianity, and other topics. Teachers encourage this and don't expect all students to think alike. Students don't always take advantage of this open environment, but it's there.
I attended school here for about 3 years. The kids are mostly white, rich and like to split up into groups. They tend to be vicious towards one another. The girls, while I was attending, were required to take "purity classes" while the boys basically had free time. The teachers were decent but many of the students would spread rumors about them. The parents could be just as vicious as the kids, splitting into gossipy mom cliques. You learn while you're there, but from a biased, right-wing viewpoint- but that's what you wanted when you put your kids in there. You'll find out later in life that you were extremely sheltered while attending this school. It was always amusing to me how many of my classmates would hide behind christianity and use it as an excuse to be horrible to one another.
i am currently a student at this school. when we came and toured it, it seemed great and i thought that i was going to fit in right away once i began my 1st semester. after two weeks, i could tell i was wrong. The students are all very cliquey, mean, and will ignore you if you arent like them. after 1st semester my family already decided i was going to go back to my old school. the walk to lunch and lunch is the worst, if you dont have any friends yet, you walk about 200 yards by yourself to lunch, and everyone crams at one table, and your forced to sit pretty much by yourself. the education is alright, as long as your in the enrichment program, then they pretty much help bump you along on all your test. I would not reccomend this, as the christian envirnment is not christian at all, in terms of sociable and friendly standards. PS: the head faculty will also pick on you after you get in trouble once. AVOID AT all costs.
We have been at Whitefield for 8 years. We now have a Freshman in a top ACC school. After her first 8 weeks of school she said that Whitefield did a great job of preparing her for college. Not only is she very confident in her academic preparation but also in the ability to manage her time and finding balance in college life. My other children have thrived (not survived) through middle and high school. We feel it has been an incredible investment for our family.
Whitefield Academy has been a terrific experience all the way around for my children. Academically, I have appreciated the rigorous AP and Honors offerings for my strong, driven student. I have also appreciated the broader course offerings for my other student who would not thrive under the pressure of a complete track of AP and Honors courses. Both have been able to fully participate in sports and clubs. The coaching and mentoring they have received has been priceless. Teachers instruct at Whitefield because they feel a passion to be here. My kids are getting a terric preparation for college.
I really did not enjoy Whitefield. Most of the people are judgemental and so are the teachers! It has okay education, but as a student I do not enjoy Whitefield. I would NEVER send my child there because of how judgemental, mean, snobby, and two faced students and techers are. I wanted to go to Whitefield because I thought it would be a good experience, but it was the opposite. To be a Christian school not many people act like Christains. As a student I am very disappointed and will be leaving after this year!
Great school with excellent academics, role models and philosophy about learning. I have three kids with very different needs in terms of learner engagement. This school finds a way to connect with each of them.
This school has been excellent for our four children. The academics are rigorous, the teachers are outstanding and the offerings in athletics and clubs are broad. My high school and middle school students enjoy playing on the sports teams as well as performing in the school plays and orchestra. The teaching is centered on a balanced Christian worldview and the faculty serve as Christian mentors for my children.
Poor preparation for the real world. Nice, caring teachers, but do not push academics to a suitable level for college preparation. Some students are naturally gifted in either sports or academics, and these get into decent colleges. This is not a result of the education they received in the high school at Whitefield. My student experienced alot of teacher turnover while attending this high school.
