Great Leadership is definitely what has Appling shining like a star. There were several parents that transferred their children to Miller thinking that Mr. Steve Jones would still be the principal there. We were all surprised when he was sent to Appling. I am so impressed with how easy my daughter transitioned to middle school. Coming from Walter P. Jones Elementary after Vickie Miller left and Ms. Malone doing a not so great job of filling Ms. Miller's shoes, I prayed that middle school would be better for my daughter. God answered my prayers. The difference is so noticeable in the students, teachers and administration. My daughter wants to participate in everything and she can't wait to go to school. Everyday, she tells me what she learned that day. I taught in the Bibb County Public school system and know how challenging it is to be in the classroom these days. Appling Middle School really has come a long way since my 20 year old was there. Keep up the great work!

This school is unprofessional. It does not teach children to be successful adults, but successful thugs, its own principal encourages the students to use slang and came up with a form of dress down day called "swag day" I do not think it is proper to allow the teachers to talk in suck a manner to the children, as my own son says that they do. He thinks it is okay to speak like a degenerate because of the supposed "role models" at this school. I do not want my children talking like thugs!

Oh my goodness!!!! You guys worte about that school in 2004 but honey its 2008 and this school is the worst school in Bibb County!!!!!!!!! I Was a student at this school for 2 years (seventh and eight grade) Class of 07 and now im in the ninth grade. I am so happy to be out of this school it dosent make any sense. Its terrible if I could I would give it 0 stars!!!! The lunch taste like pure s word, the milk was always spoil the lunch was always rotten and you can forget about education at this school forget it. I strongly recommend you do not let your child attend this school there were fights everyday, the principal is not serious about what he is doing the scool is just terrible. I speak for everyone in my graduating class when i say this Appling Middle School sucks

As a teacher, let me tell you about some of the things I see everyday at Appling. The children at this school behave terribly and do not want to learn. They curse, make threats, sleep in class, and do poorly on very simple work. Out of 120 students, maybe 5 in each class actually want and try to learn. The principal this year is not helpful and has on several occasions walked by my class in the hall while they were yelling, running around, etc. without saying a word to any of them. This school is heading down hill and I hope I'm not there when it comes crashing down.

appling middle is a great place to be, but Mr. Tompkins and Mrs. Hood were not the best principals, discipline was not a major roll at the school. I know now that the new principal Mrs. Jackson has a lot problems to deal with.

As being a student that attended Appling Middle School I dont think they provided enough education..meaning not having enough teachers. Mostly Appling had substitute teachers. For the first six weeks i didn't have a teacher because my supervision teacher had gang green in one of his feet. Then the next six weeks came around and another teacher just up and left(laugage teacher)and we(eighth graders)had to take the writing test and we had no experience. I am not trying to degrade Appling but the school really needs the state to come in and run that school maybe it will be a better learning environment.

I think Appling Middle is experiencing alot of problems. A few of my childs teachers have been substitutes. These individuals although nice most times do not have a college degree. Also the children are out of control, which causes limited learning for their peers. Lastly, the counsler is never available and has stood me up for appointments. I hate to sound so negative but it is all true. As parents we need to help at the school and attend more school board meetings. I know I will. If you are an Appling parent can our children count on your support to?

The school profile results show that Appling Middle School under the leadership of the principal during this time frame yielded gains in student achievement. At this time Appling is undergoing a restructuring process that will in essence hurt the student population. And in this process a leader with years of experience as a principal was removed from the school and replaced with one that is a novice. Good leadership is important to students' success in schools. In a school with achievement scores that seem to be increasing, there certainly needs to be an administrator at the helm who has been a full fledged principal with a sound track record in preparing students to be high achievers. I have observed that Appling Middle School has several good teachers. Parents should look at the urban area and the strides that the teachers, students, and leaders must make to help our children reach the acheivement goals. Novice principals are not the persons to place in these positions. This change will prove to be detrimental for students. The right leader is important.

Appling used to be a great school contrary to what others might have believed. However, lately, the discipline is awful at the school. There is no leadership. The children are running wild. There are still some great teachers at the school. If it wasn't for them, I would have moved.
