I'm a former student of Southwest High School. Since Mr. Bacon, the principal, tenure, the overall attitude and learning curve has increased significantly. He has revamped the whole program. If you're looking for a disciplanarian, you've found it.

I only spent two years at Southwest(04-05) and I hated it! When it comes to academics, there are only a few teachers who actually care about teaching the students. The rest of the teachers try to be the students friends too much. Some of them act just like students. However, I will give Southwest some credit for having good extracurricular activities. Oh, and the students are out of control. Some teachers do try to follow procedures and punish students, but it doesn't help because students know nothing will be done to them. It was to the point were teachers just stopped writing students up and spent half the class period trying to get the disruptive students under control.

In my opinion Southwest is the best school anyone could ask for. Even though we may not have all of the money, technology, and/or equipment that other area schools have,all-in-all we are an excellent school(look at the test scores). With myself being an AP student and an athlete I have seen the best of times at Southwest(with the girls going to the 2nd round in the 06-07 state basketball play-offs to the test scorers steadily improving),so for all who say that Southwest is a bad school with no doors on the bathroom stalls or students running the school I ask you to just come and drop by to see the high quality of education being administered at Southwest. Southwest is a good school! I beg to differ. Patriots United We Stand Divided We Fall,Stand For Something or You Will Fall For Anything.Dr.Fowler We miss you.

Teachers are very well meaning and generally work hard and mean well. Complex principal does not trust faculty and does not enforce discinpliary rules equitably across the student body or faculty. Principal's word cannot be trusted. Morale amoung faculty is generally not good. General feeling in this school is that the students are in charge.

This school has great potential; however, the condition of the facilities is bad to say the best. Many exterior doors don't have functioning locks. Floors have broken/repaired tiles. Restrooms are dirty (caused by students) and it's rare to find toilet stalls with doors or with working latches. Soap is also rarely found. Discipline is a problem. Many teachers try to follow the B.O.E. rules but it seems restrictions are placed in the way of consequences being effectively implemented; thus, many students ignore the rules knowing nothing, or very little, will happen to them.

Southwest gives their students too much freedom, anyone can walk in and out of the school without permission. We need more teachers that care and that's more attentive to our children needs.
