I graduated from UGHS in '05. I have moved on to earn a B.S. I didn't receive much attention at this school. I taught myself nearly everything. I don't know if the teachers that I had are still working at this school, but the ones I had really didn't show any attention nor did they try to help. I received more help from professors at the University I attended. I really hope that it has changed.
Awesome teachers and staff! Always going above & beyond for their students! UGHS is a great school!
I think this school is very overrated. It's superficial. I came from a disadvantaged school towards the end of the year knowing the good status and high standards expected of me and was ready to be pushed to better my GPA. However, when I arrived nobody gave me any information. I never met any of the staff, never got a rule book or agenda, and was constantly scolded for things I knew nothing about. It was a complete shock and nobody made me feel welcome. The students looked down on me, or just blatantly ignored me. My grades plummeted and thanks to no help from the teacher, even when sought out. I was made to feel stupid and inferior to everyone. Disgusting and disrespectful.
As a parent I have a few issues with this school, granted it has been years since I have been to high school, but when does it become acceptable to lock bathroom doors or suggest to a child that if he/she does not use a pass to the bathroom, locker, etc there lowest grade can be dropped. According to history using the restroom to relieve bodily functions is natural and normal and should not be discouraged. Also, what is going on with online classes? My child was homeschooled for 3 years, I made the decision to matriculate her into a public school to interact with TEACHERS and students, not online classes with no assistance. How was it possible for the school to have French last year with a teacher and this year no french teacher?? If a child wants to take 4 years of this language should it be acceptable that the child has to do online for 3 years. My child was referred for Honors French, surely that implied with a teacher, she is not in Honors French though. I don't even want to talk about the PE class, I can't mention how many times I was told, oh we didn't do anything today. And my child receives little assistance from counselor.
Pretty great school. Graduated from there in 2011. Sports teams are pretty up and down. Football team was not great while I was there. However, the Naval Junior Reserves Officer Training Corps is one of the best in the entire nation. Consistently competing in all areas in national competitions. Also, academic are pretty good. Constantly getting pushed to achieve more and take AP classes.
I am currently attending Union Grove High as a Freshman. The school as far as academics is good but when it comes to problems with teachers the counselors tend to get defensive and not look at the situation from the students point of view. Union Grove isn't all that and if i had known the school would be the way it was i would have asked to go somewhere else. I plan to transfer to a different school for the last 3 years of high school.
Union Grove High School is an excellence school. It is in the top 5% in the nation according to Newsweek magazine. The teachers are fantastic and have a wonderful relationship with the students. They make their subjects interesting and challenging. The honors classes and advanced placement classes are a worthy challenge for any student who wants to learn and reach high for their future. The principal, counselors and staff are always available for students and parents. This school is a '10' with 5 stars.
I like Union Grove because we're one of the best schools in the state. We have a great sports team whether in football track, cross country, volleyball, and basketball. And not to mention, Union Grove High school has been in Newsweek Magazines Top 5% of AMERICA'S high schools, not just Georgia. We just have a great overall school.
Union Grove is great because it is probably one of the most well rounded high schools in Henry County. They are committed to excellence academically as well as through their athletic progams, down to the clubs offered at the school. GO UGHS!
While there is still entirely too much focus, money and efforts being spent on the athletic department and not enough on the fine arts, the academics at UGHS are hard to beat. The education I received is top notch, and now that I am in college with people from private schools and boarding schools alike, I can see that my education was equal to theirs, if not better.
The teachers are very caring and helpful for the students and the students want to flourish in their academics
My grandchildren go there and the teachers, staff and principal Mr. Smith give them the best education and training.
Everyone is competitive on an educational level. All of the teachers, and even the students are so helpful when someone needs it. Union Grove never strays from working towards being the best.
The teachers that my son has this year (9th grade) are some of the best and really have a passion for what they do. I am so grateful that they will and are a part of his High School years. I just wish others took the job they had with a life passion as these teachers have expressed.
I am curently a sophmore at UGHS. It is a very hard school; teachers expect many positive things to come out of their students. This school has the best NJROTC unit in the nation and I am proud to say that I am a part of it. The staff and administration works very hard to exceed the expectations of all the other schools in the state. The Friday night football games are amazing plus we're good. I can proudly say that I go to the best school in the state, south east, and nation.
i currently go to union grove high school. im a junior now and i have had an ok school year. the teachers are really sweet and super cool. they make sure you know your stuff before taking a graduation test. they have helped me and my peers alot. councelors are awesome. :) especially ms.stone.
There is no more racial tension at union grove then there is in everyday life. And as far as African Americans not receiving equal treatment by teachers that is completely untrue, also you cant assume there is racial tension or a 'race war' because your race is outnumbered that is just how some schools are demographically. Union Grove is the best school in Henry County no doubt, we continually have the best test scores, most students sent to programs such as GHP, and good athletic teams.
I have just finished my freshman year up at ughs. I thought that the teacher are great and give you opportunities to talk to them and ask questions. They are very nice and also the conselors are always there to help with any situation that happens to be going on. I honestly didnt have a problem this school year with the way they handled events or anything. There was a couple of stupid fights at our lunch but you learn to ignore it and move on . I think that my next 3 years going to ughs will be great considering that im going to a great school which people would rather be going to than the other henry county schools. They treat everybody fairly! Ughs is a great school and im glad i will be going there the next three years!
My son has been at UGHS since his 9th grade year and is now a Jr. This HS has become a school of politics when it comes to sports (baseball & Football). I have witnessed kids playing in a certain sport on grade levels much higher, simply because their parents are Booster Club parents. Very sad!!!
