I worked at ARES for many years. ARES has the finest teachers that any school can possibly have. They are not only qualified teachers, but individuals that actually care about the child. They strive to meet not only educational needs, but physical, emotional and financial needs for them as well.
I recently commented on the school but I failed to comment on my daughter's second grade teacher. Mrs. Corey is amazing. She's kept my child's attention all year and helped her to continue to learn. My daughter completely understands everything that Mrs. Corey teaches her no matter what the subject may be. I cannot explain how much I hope that Mrs. Corey loops up to 2nd grade.
My kids love Atha Elementary. When they leave for school each morning I know their in good hands. Mrs Hamby and Mrs Vey have been wonderful this year. They love the music and art classes, and can't wait to go back the next day
I am so excited and feel so blessed that my child gets to be a student at Atha Road. His teacher Ms. Hoag and Assistant Ms. Chandler are wonderful. My child has grown so much in every developmental area this K-5 year and I am so excited to see how he evolves over his next school years there. I have complete confidence in his saftey and learning at Atha Rd Elem.
The teachers and staff at Atha Road truly care about each child. Unfortunately due to political decisions and pressures to achieve required testing scores...the focus is really on the student that is behind. I do not disagree that these students need alot of help...However, it is frustrating to see teachers spreading themselves so thin trying to help those above average continue to learn and grow. My daughter is fortunate enough to have a dedicated and concerned teacher like Barbara Ginn-K and a wonderful parapro like Mrs. Daws. Putting aside the educational issues, teachers spend way too much time in correcting poor behavior habits. Children should come to school ready to learn...this is each parents responsibility. The lack of involvement in the school is astounding. Parents need to evaluate their priorities and realize that schools are not daycare centers. That teachers are educated professionals and deserve to be treated as such.
There is no perfect school out there, but as long as the parents are there to support the kids, the teachers & the faculty you can make it a great school. This is a fairly new shool & it takes time to get all the parents involved, but they are getting there. All of the teachers, faculty & the principal at this school seem very highly educated & skilled to teach my children. Unfortunately in any public school these days kids seem to give less & less respect to the adults, so it therefore gets harder for the teachers to do what they are there to do. I do infact like that Atha Road have a few male teachers, they are a great additional influence on the kids. There are several private schools around here, but I know my kids are well taken care of at Atha Road Elementary.
I have two girls at the school. My oldest is in the fourth grade with Mr. Mc Collum, she loves the school and was very excited about going back. It's the first year for my youngest, K with Mrs. Benson, who is a wonderful teacher.
We have four children that attend Atha Road Elem. I found all the teachers and the principal to be very helpful. We have twins that were behind and they have excelled at Atha Road. The only thing I found that could use some help was the fact that not many of the parents were involved. Remember you cannot criticize the school if the parents wont support it and be involved.
I believe that the teaching staff at this school, is by far better then most of the other area schools. My children attended Monroe Primary before Atha. We had several problems that were never addressed. I have one daughter with asthma and food allergies, and the staff take great care in making sure she doesn't do or eat anything that she shouldn't. Nurse Vickie is always helpful and willing to call and talk about her needs. Mr George has been readily available with problems concerning the bus when I couldn't get the bus driver to address them. The school is a great place for teachers and parents. I will be sending my son to pre-k this year at Atha and am looking forward to it.
Fantastic! out of 260 3rd graders 7 didn't pass the CRCT. Of those 7 most got a score of 295. The only sore side of Atha is the parents. Very few of the parents are involved. I guess they feel Atha is a daycare center. Mr. George has assembled a great group of intelligent caring educators.
I would not give them any stars! Very poor quality of education in all aspects. No communication, especially when they know they are wrong. They just have you disappear! But we're not gone! If there are any parents out there that their child (ren) have been wrongly treated, please contact me at magnolia_10@lycos.com
I had to put my child in private school for him to be up to par. He was 2 years behind in math & the school wrongly accused him of a serious action.
