I love this school. My son had the pleasure of attending there. The teachers are so great! My son adored his third grade teacher, Mrs. Bassett. She spent time with him and was great at helping us get on track. Thanks to this school and all it has done. Love It!!!
This school has continued to have low teacher child ratios even in tough times. Kindergarten classes have 16-19 students. They offer so much support for struggling students and enrichment for gifted students. Fantastic community support that seems to be growing.
This school is above par and are devoted to the education of the children. I understand budget cuts but it is still difficult to supply our children with their school supplies. Often, my child has come home crying because they didn't have something they needed.
"Working together to be our best, Growing and learning is our quest" is the mission statement recited daily at Moreland Elementary. It's a great place for students, parents & staff! Not only does the school day offer quality instruction with rigor and high expectations delivered by a highly qualified, creative & nuturing staff, it also offers extra activities such as Girl Power, M-Troop, EIP after school lab, Math Study groups, Academic Bowl, Art Club, Track, Chorus, K-Kids, Wildcat Assistants, 4H, SAFE program, Movie Night (PTO), Reading Night (PTO), & Stevi B's Night. Moreland is the complete package. In the six years my son has attended MES, there has never been a day that he has not wanted to attend. We are very proud to be a Moreland Wildcat!
I have three children that has attended MES, and one that is still there. My first two had a decent elementary school experience, but the one that is still there struggles constantly with reading. I have all but been told that there is nothing more that can be done to help my child. I am very disapointed with the decision that this school has made regarding my child. He needs extra help, and they won't give it to him. I would not recommend anyone send there child there if this is how they treat struggling students.
Moreland Elem School continues to have a loving, caring community feeling. The principal & many teachers & workers live in this community & seem to know all their children & their families. Every AM teachers are outside helping children out of vehicles, walking them to the door, holding umbrellas if needed, & the same TLC is there in the afternoons when their ride comes. The food is good, & parents & grandparents are encouraged to have lunch with their child now & then. Pre-K & Kindergarten teachers encourage parents & grandparents to come & read to their classes. It is just such a positive, warm, loving place, one feels good just being there.
I have one child attending MES and another that has just left for middle school. I think you can be as involved as you or your child would like to be. We have to monitor our children's activities to make sure they are not over extended. My wife and I have never been dissappointed with any of our children's teachers. The mix of socioeconomic backgrounds (from blue collar to affluent) helps to give them the exposure to deal with the real world later in life.
This is a community school, and the best aspects are apparent as you become acquainted with the teachers, parents, and students. I am constantly impressed with the school's welcoming atmosphere and willingness to involve those interested in serving as volunteers, mentors, or readers. In addition, the faculty and staff are genuinely interested in the students' academic and individual non-academic needs.
My child currently attends Moreland Elementary and loves the teachers and Principal. I agree that the PTO program does little to accommodate parents who work outside of the home. The meetings are held during or right after school when many parents are still at work. I realize that it is difficult to get many parents involved, but if the activities were accommodating to work hours, more parents might get involved. On a more positive note, I can say that for 3 of the past 5 years, my child has had teachers that went WAY beyond the call of duty regarding personal attention to ensure that learning and development are the mainstay of the curriculum. I continuously tell everyone that this is THE best school.
The quality of academia has faltered this year for my child. Her teacher is absent more than she is there. No explanation to the parents. Just constant substitute teachers. Extracurricular activities aren't readily available. Parent involvement is offered only to the people who don't have public jobs. A PTO or PTA is not offered for working parents.
