McIntosh High school seems to be their own little society... This is not necessarily a bad thing; but it would be your own opinion to rate. My daughter has came home every day and from 4pm-11pm; she's working hard- yet, she still seems to not meet up to MHS's academic standards. If your child is ALREADY a student of gifted knowledge and great understanding, this school is great for them- otherwise, not. Another thing i've heard mentioned by my daughter are the attitudes of the teachers at this school. At first I thought, "No, she's probably exaggerating their behaviors," i was proved wrong by recordings. My daughter allowed me to listen in on the classes and how the teachers would act and react to situations- how they would teach- my daughter was right. She is bullied by not only the students there (who seem to not be accepting) but by her fellow teachers as well. To me, MHS created their own little society; a place i now refer to as a Pariah society. (This message is not directed towards anybody in particular, keep in mind; the counselors are fantastic and so are a small percent of the teachers, but now that i am paying money for my daughter to be tutored, something is wrong).
This school is a fabulous school for A+ students, or students with significant learning differences. If your child is an "average" student A, B student, he/she will get lost in the shuffle! The teachers do the best they can to accomodate students, but they cannot possibly do it. Unfortunately, schools have become so big, students lack the opportunity to really get to know their teachers, coaches, and administrators.
People need to stand up for these teachers like Ms S,,, Mrs Smirniotis she has been an asset for my son who now is in college. He still calls her on the phone when he is having problems. What a blessing she has been. MHS is a good school because of her and the few teachers like her.
You get very little from the administator there starting at the top. There is a buddy system there and who know what might happen. Ms Fine shows no concern about how her special education department is ran my Ms Kendrick. There are many teachers there that are great. My daughter has Ms Cason for biology and she is wonderful and so is the colab teacher Ms Smirniotis. She has help my daughter so much this year. We need more teachers like her.
This is a great school. Teachers are extremely involved and caring. Community is very involved. Very supportive environment.
We moved into the area Jan. 2009. My daughter is a Jr. and has her sites set on college. The teachers and administration have been a great help in the transfer process and helping my daughter with her goals
We moved here two years ago. Both us and my son are very happy we made the move. Most of the teachers are very dedicated --staying early and late to meet with the students, sending emails, updating gradebook.com. Administration is very supportive. Principal and Vice Principals take time to listen, to care and to be involved with the students. School is fantastic and community is great for teens. --The golf carts are great and the police are very involved with overseeing them so that the situation stays a positive one. McIntosh and Peachtree City are fantastic. I only wish I had come here sooner so my older daughter could have attended. Best place I ever saw to raise teenagers.
As a parent with my fourth child at McIntosh I am very happy with all the studies and activities they have received. I have been very blessed that they haven't gotten into any trouble with drugs but have had fun with their high school experience. I feel that comes from the home instead of the school. At school the teachers have enough dealing with teaching and not enough time to deal with the problems that the parents should take care at home. We have been at McIntosh since 1996 and will finish up in the year 2010. McIntosh has it's problems but I think all schools are dealing with some kind of problem.
Though this school has good qualities, it also has many flaws due to it's inadequet help from the administration (specifically in scheduling) and from the principle herself on many issues.
The leadership staff at McIntosh has become unreasonable, inflexible and rude to the parents in resolving student issues.
Ranked #1 in 2002 and consistently among the top 10 in the state. Known for soccer and academics. AP classes galore and district also has a great middle school with national recognition in science fairs.
My child is a junior at this high school and has been challenged intellectually in every way. She is offered the opportunity to take Advanced Placement courses, participates on an athletic team, is involved in extra curricular activities and as a student has nothing but praise for this school. This high school is just a continuation of the fine schools in Fayette County.
