I would totally recommend this to anyone as a parent! The Principal is real great! (Although their cafeteria food needs improvement! get complaints from my child all the time) ( -:
My son loves Dobbins. He is in the 7th grade this year and all his teachers have been great!
I am a student at J.A Dobbins Middle School and I love it there. We learn lots of cool stuff and different ways to do it. The teachers are really nice but very strict. Remember you do come to school to learn not goof off though. I am a sixth grade honors student and it is very fast paced. The last thing I want to tell you is that the food is a major improvement for those of you wondering, and yes every Friday is BIG DADDY PIZZA!!!!I I would recommend this school to anybody.
This school is the best school my children have ever attended I have an 8th grader and a 7th grader who attend this school and the techers are awesome they have many friends they have so much fun learning.
I would not say it is the worst school, but far from the best. My child has had a problem with bulling and they do address it but not long and hard enough. I no they can only do so much but this matter is getting out of control and if your child gets in trouble one time they stay on the list and everything is there falt from now on .The tracher are great very caring and im pleased there , but the principal i dont care for . i am realy thinking about my 5th greader that will go there next year . i think about just moving the kids to another school in hopes they can learn without the bulling .
This school is so disorganized. I get calls from an autimated system stating my kid is not in school when they are and also it does not specify a name so if you have two kids in that school, you will not know which they are talking about. The rules are so grey. I guess it depends on if the teacher likes you because my daughter has had dress code violations from the teachers she has the most trouble with but been sent to the principal Dr Ross for him to say its okay, but yet just a day ago, my child was not allowed to eat lunch and had to sit in ISS for a new pair of jeans thus never ate. All over a pair of jeans with legging underneath in which the principal said was fine. I could go on and on. I have seen so much
My daughter has been going to Dobbins for about a year now. My husband and I like it a lot. Our daughter has great grades all A's and is in all advanced classes. The teachers are great!
My child has been at Dobbins now for nearly a year. She has to sit in classes all day with no PE, and no breaks. It is very stressful for her as she is an active child and since they took pe away from her, her grades have dropped somewhat. Talking with the staff won't help either because they will tell you a computer picks their classes and there is nothing they can do if they don't get PE. I think they need to offer some kind of physical activity to all children when they have to go to school to nearly 4 pm every day! Also, the parents of the students are not friendly and will not speak to you, even if they know you from previous schools. Not a friendly area. The office area is a little disorganized.
I love dobbins. I have only been there for 1 year and im in love with them. The teachers are mainly on the crct topic but thats great. The food is nice but i little gross some days. Overall its a great school and im so saad i have to leave :(
Im a 7th grade Student at dobbins. and everything is great there. I have been at dobbins for 2 years and The teachers get the stundents ready for the future. If you do go to dobbins and your child is falling its only cause they are not paying attention to the school work. Now i had some trouble but my teachers worked one on one with me and we figured out what my problem was so that is why J.A. Dobbins Middle School is a great school!!!!
Dobbins Middle is a very good school... there may be a fight or so often but thats barely ever AND the teachers are WONDERFUL!!!
I am a eight grade student of dobbins and I have gone there for three years. I feel that dobbins is focusing on some of the unimportant things in a stuents life. We recently recieved two new large flat screen tvs that have been put in the cafeteria. They are used for showing announcements or 'shout outs' This seems unnesary when we have absolutly no funding for the fine art programs. The school has held over three fundraisers. This may seem like a solution but during these hard times there is less and less of an opertunity for the stundents to make the sales. It has gotten to the point where there is so little funding that the teachers have little to no paper. The school's curiculum is focused almost entirely on the crct. This may seem rational but stundents cant retain information if they are barley challenged.
Dobbins is a well school. It's not a great school and in certain issues I would not prefer this school to students. The teachers are very nice and some are stern. This school have a lot of unnecessary and not enough things that students really need. This school is really good but it needs more improvements.
I have read some of the comments and I agree with some and then there are those whom I do not. One of my concerns have been challenging the students more. Homework has been limited for my child also. I think I have notice a big difference this year as far as communication of programs such as A/B honor roll receptions that we received last year. I feel more parent volunteering is needed
I am a student at dobbins middle school, and i believe that a lot of parents have under estamated this school. they dont just teach the stuff to you but they make it fun to learn.i also agree that the spanish teacher (mrs.thomas is wonderful) i highly reccomend for your kid to go there.
Ok, the last time I tried to post, it was declined because it was said I was expressing opinions not facts, so I will watch what I say and see if this post is published. Dobbins Middle School was a wonderful school 2 years ago. It had a phenomanal principal with vision and dreams for the students; a caring and motivated staff; and a great PTA. Now the staff seems to be 'down' all the time with no comradory or 'spirit'. The students complain and alot say they aren't happy there. I personally do not like the way things are being run there, but that is my opinion. However, I can say there is a significent difference and change since the new administrator took over. So, with that said, parents, please check out things a little more thoroughly, you may find out things you didn't know.
this school is so gret i am a 8th grader for the 2008-09 year ists so great the teachers r nce and r always willin 2 help u this is the best middle skool in paulding county ive even heard adults say that!
Dobbins is an excellent school. My child has been there for 3 years and the are excellent. The teachers do their jobs. There is more diversity at the school also. Lastly, the principle Dr. Ross and Mr. Reuss are excellent administrators. Now they are a tad picky about little stuff but their methodology is to stop the little things before they become big things. They love when parents get involved with what is going on with their students. You can call them or email them. Plus the teachers are always open to communication. So although I sometimes complain about phone calls about petty stuff (such as my child rolling her eyes are getting loud at lunch) I do appreciate their direct approach to handling 'any issues' that could cause a disruption at the school. Excellent school where teachers are safe and students are safe..simply because the administrations 'cares'.
My child attends DMS. A childs education is only as good as the parents involvement. Speak to your child and their teachers. Utilize the grade viewer. A teacher can only do so much in the short time they are given.
My child has struggled since he has been in the 6th grade. Now in 7th. I feel he was pushed through last year when he was failing they always found ways for him to boost his grade. Now in the 7th the only time you hear from anyone is if there is a behavior issue. As long as he sits there with his mouth shut you hear from no one but he can be failng and never know that unless 'YOU'the parent look at the grade viewer. Why are these teachers not taught to discipline themselves? And why do they not have the courtesy to let you know your child is having difficulty. Is the idea to push them through so that they don't have to deal withthem the following year? Seems so to me.
