Wilcox high has always provided wonderful education and wonderful teachers who strives to help students pass all of their subjects!!!
My sister and i both agree that, although this school may not be the richest and biggest school in southern GA, it is an excellent place to be. We love how when we walk down the halls, the teachers/faculty are always monitoring the passing crowds. 'Tuck in that shirt,' or 'pull up those pants!' they make sure we follow the dress code the same way we would as if we were in the corporate world. Also, so what if the school is behind. We do our best with what we've got! and, my sister and I-being from Detroit-we have seen worse than wilcox...Trust me, way worse!!! so, hats off and kudos to Wilcox. I will be glad 2 be graduating in Wilcox's c/o 2011 and my sister is just as proud of her Wilcox c/o 2012!!! p.S.: Go Patriots!!!!!!!!! P.P.S.: If-you-actually-went-to-our-honors-program-we-held-a-few-weeks-ago-you-would-have-seen-how-many-businesses-and-colleges-gave-our-students-scholarships. As-far-as-I-am-concerned, Wilcox is ballin!!!
I have a child in the 9th grade and a child in the 6th grade. I've never been so disappointed in a school as I am in our school. I graduated from WCHS in 1990 and things have most definitely gone down-hill since that time.
I have a special needs child who is in the 10th grade. He cannot be mainstreamed into a regular class. The kids who cannot be mainstreamed are segregated in a building that is on school property but not in the building. They are not teaching these children what it takes to survive in the real world. My child is having to learn math with one particular, who will remain nameless, by making marks on a piece of paper and having to count them. Why can't he learn with a calculator? The parapro is teaching him anyway and not the teacher. Who is supposed to be qualified to teach? Also, the lunches are horrible and not enough is prepared for all students to be able to eat. Prepare out special students just like you would any other student.
I wished I could say positive things about our school system. I am disappointed in our school leadership starting at the county office. If our superintendent would stay in his office instead of driving back and forth from Abbeville to Rochelle several times a day he might could improve our curriculum for our students. He loads and unloads buses everyday. Also he makes a breakfast and lunch trip to the high school lunchroom. I think there are greater things that need to be done! Thank God for Dr. Bennett and Julie Childers. He needs to let our wonderful principals do their jobs!
My child attends this school. Over the past 3 years we have seen a decline. College prep classes are a thing of the past here. I feel they are not preparing my child for college. The teachers are staying on their cellphones and computers too much also! The assistant principal is great. He displines which is much needed.
I attended this school a couple of years ago. In the academic programs WCHS is failing behind in what other schools are in. By the time they leave the small school and enter college the knowledge they have is acceptable but compared to other schools they are fairly behind and do not comprehend as much. The atmosphere is nice and peaceful giving them more one on one time with the teachers but the curriculum could be more advanced for those who want to go to college. There is no music department but all the extracurricular activities make up for the lose.
The food they serve is not fit to eat. They need to take more pride in their job and really try and teach our kids the skills they will need in life.My child has been in this school system all her life and has no extra help and nothing but a hard way to go. No wonder she is behind a grade now. She has had some really bad teachers along the way and only 3-4 good ones.I feel sorry for my grandkids coming up through this system now.
I have 2 children they both go to Wilcox County. My eldest daughter has only been a part of Wilcox for 7 years But she truly loves it and my youngest daughter has been a part for 2 years and she also loves it.The faculty is perfect they will help you with anything you need.No matter if they have to stay to help you.I truly love this school and adore anyone who helps with it.If you are looking into transferring your child to a school I would choose here over anywhere in Southern Georgia.
My kids have attended other schools in the past but for us Wilcox schools have been the best. The teachers and leaders take pride in helping each student at his or her own individual needs level. They try to make sure no childs left behind. Thats why I highly rate wilcox schools.
