The faculty and staff of RMS run a tight ship, which is much needed structurally at this age. They push students to achieve more and exceed expectations. My child feels like the teachers genuinely care about him as a person as well as his academic success. As far as middle schools are concerned, I feel confident that my child will have a positive experience. Teachers work hard and are compassionate toward students. Expectations are clearly outlined from day one, and students are given multiple chances to complete assignments and succeed. RMS also has strong extracurricular programs. Show choir, band, and chorus are incredible. There are 200+ students in band and in chorus. Sports teams are competitive with same-size middle schools and often come out on top. My child states that he likes middle school much better than elementary school, and he had a positive experience there as well.

The teachers are disrespectful to the children. My child's PE teacher gave him in-school suspention because his shirt kept coming untuck. He tried to explain to her that his shirt was too short. She told my child to shut up, would not listen to anything he had to say and wrote him up. When I tried to setup a conference with the teacher, the assistant principal would not allow me to. Told me I could leave a message and she would call me back. I spoke with the PE teacher over the phone and she admitted to me that she told my child to shut up because he had an attitude. Really? Because he was trying to explain to you the reason his shirt kept coming untuck.

This is a wonderful school. The teachers are great, they answer emails promptly and most are available before school to tutor students. The principal is very attuned to the students and responds very quickly to any concerns. They have a great gifted program and terrific extracurricular activities as well. My child was attending a private school in the same town and I can honestly say that his curriculum is actually better at Rome. My child and I both love this school.

The teachers are so amazing. They give amazing study techniques such as games, review sheets, videos, and more. The atmosphere is wonderful. Everything is so clean. The lunchroom is fantastic! It has 3 lines all with different food in them. The drama program is the best I have ever seen. The sports are super fantastic!

The teachers really care about the students receiving an excellent education. All of the students are very pleasant to each other and the faculty also. There are plentiful extra curricular activities. Rome Middle excels especially in the band program and in sports.

I am a the former ISS teacher. For the year 2007-2008, I say the teachers are very caring. The staff was very supportive! I liked the kids too. I would have stayed if the drive was shorter.

We've been extremely pleased with RMS. The curriculum is challenging with wonderful educational opportunities in preparation for high school and beyond. The courses and extra curricular activities offered at RMS are superb. As parents of an 8th grade student, we would like to commend the faculty and staff for a job well done.

I started my teaching career at RMS a couple of years ago; it made me question whether I wanted to be a teacher. Administration was not supportive of first year teachers' needs. Students have total disrespect for teachers and for their education. While, the gifted program was improving, it was not beneficial for those students.

A challenging curriculum, their is almost no parent involvement, their are a wide variety of extracurricular activities. The principle has absolutely no control of the school!if you want children to a serious education free of distractions this is not the place for it!

This is one of the worst schools that I have ever had to deal with. Some of the teachers are ok but others are not so great. The students are uncontrolable and the principal does not seem to have much authority. This is an in need of improvement school as listed by the Georgia Department of Education. The need to improve the faculty before the students can succeed their goals

Rome Middle School is an excellent school. It is very challenging for the students. The school is also very diverse. The teachers are caring and very concerned about the achievement of each student. Initially we were concerned about how our son would adapt to this school. But, with his drive to succeed and the teachers desire to help him through many challenges it has set a memory that will last a lifetime.

Profile Completeness

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
