St. Vincent's Academy

I graduated from St. Vincent's Academy and am a member of the staff. With the inception of a new principal a couple of years ago much has changed at the school. SVA has always been an amazing place, full of caring faculty, great academics and a sense of great community awareness. Now, it is that and much, much more!! It is such a unique and wonderful place for a girl to experience getting a great education and grow as an entire person. The beautiful attitude of the girls towards helping others within the school and in the larger world is something that is irreplaceable in their experience. The Arts program is amazing and the school has secured large math and science grants this year, growing opportunities even more every day in these classes that are so important to students and in careers today! Unique courses such as Holocaust studies round out the fantastic core classes. I could go on and on! It is the place to send your daughter if you want to her to reach her highest potential!

My daughter graduated in 2008. My sincere thanks to the teachers and staff at SVA. My daughter had a great 4 years at SVA. Friends, clubs, sports and academics. Yes, the school has tough academic classes, but I can say my daughter was prepared 100% for college. My husband and I are very grateful to SVA on helping us raise our daughter to become the wonderful, smart, Christian young lady she is today. Thank you and Gob Bless SVA From a very pleased parent.

I am a proud graduate from SVA! Now, I proudly sent my daughter (a Freshman) to SVA. The school has strong academics, sports, extra curricular activites all while helping to nurture and raise strong, independent-Chrisitian young women! We need more dedication in our schools like that of the staff at SVA!

I am perplexed by some of the reviews left here by parents. I am a graduate of SVA who went to college on a basketball scholarship and am currently finishing my masters. Along with my basketball scholarship, I was offered 2 softball scholarships and was able to choose from among 3 good colleges. I attribute this in part to the combination of athletics and academics at SVA. I say 'in part' because a school alone cannot make students excel and succeed. Nor can parents. Students themselves must take initiative and realize to some extent your school is what you make of it. I thoroughly enjoyed my 4 years at SVA, but I made the most of it. I knew people who complained their high school years away . I got involved and loved it. Sheila

I just can't believe the 'turn the other cheek' approach SVA is taking to the issue of security. My student came home with two amazing, jaw-dropping tales yesterday. We really need to not only what is going on but what are they doing? No more walking the dog, focus on the real issues.

Mediocre at best. Parental involvement is frowned upon, and communication seems to be restricted to e-mails with responses usually weeks late. It appears to be a very cliquish environment and the school considers walking the canine mascot through downtown Savannah 'community volunteer hours.' Block scheduling is a nightmare and challenging academics are not their forte. Book reports are turned in via e-mail, which makes it very easy for students to avoid actually reading the book. We have been extremely underwhelmed by the edcuation that is currently offered here.

St. Vincent's was once a wonderful place for young women to not only get an excellent education, but grow and thrive. While there are still many wonderful teachers gracing the halls, there are far too many who are not so wonderful. Many do not adhere to the schools mission statement and have forgotten the art of teaching. Conflict resolution is non-existent. The Sports programs are simply adequate. Not a good place for the scholarship seeking student/athlete. The arts program is pretty good, that is, if you can fit it into the ever changing block scheduling. The school still supports various outreach programs and has an active volunteer student body. The best part of this school would have to be the students! Wonderful girls seeking an education in an environment built for them to fail!!!

I am a former student and daughter of a former student of SVA. The success I have attained in life, I attribute to the values instilled in me and the teachers who inspired me during my brief time at SVA. We were challenged to excel in all we did and to become active members of society. We developed bonds of friendship that got us through the tough times all teens face as they mature into young women. Of all the schools I have attended in my life, my years at SVA will always stand out in my mind and heart as the most important because they prepared me well for the rest of my life.

Our daughter graduated from SVA in 1999 and earned her BSW with honors from UGA. She is graduating with her Masters in May 2004. My husband and I attribute the success of her education to the academy program at Blessed Sacrament (prek-8) and Saint Vincent's Academy (9-12). We are very pleased with SVA and know that our upcoming freshman daughter will receive the same eduacation and guidiance as with our first daughter.
