We heard so many wonderful things about this school and we were very let down. The school itself is old and needs updating. Never felt like we were welcomed to go into the school or help with PTA. Teachers yelling in the hall made us feel like they were not happy either. Very odd situation. We moved and put our child in another school which has a much better teaching staff. Would not suggest sending a child here.
Child was so bored and did not enjoy this school. Work sheets (busy work) seemed to be the main focus and the parents had to teach the children at home. Learning the information for the test and then forgetting is not a valuable education. Seemed to be far too many OLD teachers at this school that were just waiting for retirement. The old, burned out teachers should be replaced with young, energetic, enthusiastic teachers that actually enjoy children. This school seemed more interested in the inclusion students "special needs" and the bright students fell in the cracks. A BIG disappointment. Would not recommend this school UNLESS your child has special needs. If this is the "best" public elementary school in Savannah, then this city is in trouble.
If I could give them zero stars I would. This school is prejudice, there is no way around it. I hate the way we are treated and talked to. They say inappropriate things to my daughterand her teacher assigns children to rub her back. When I went to the principle about my many concerns she stood up for the teacher and said it must be a miscommunication, and she such a good teacher, and she said it's not true. Always an excuse. Please listen to me when I say DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILDREN THERE! If I knew what I know now I wouldn't have even moved here. This school has made our experience here on Whitemarsh Island terrible.
It has been 10 years since I went to Marshpoint, but I can say this: Marshpoint was the ONLY school besides the college I'm in now that I excelled in. I know more than half of the teachers I had back then are not there anymore, but I'm sure the current teachers there now are just as good. I miss Marshpoint and I treasure every memory I had there. You're not just a student there, you're a person. I would recommend this school to ANYONE!
I know some of the teachers and students that attend and work at MarshPoint. I have seen excellence in their learning and teaching. My great nephew is thriving there with high grades and much learning joy!
Marshpoint has an excellent IB program that is going to have a feeder jr. high and feeder high school. If your child graduates HS thru the IB program, they can go to school almost anywhere in the world!!
We moved to Savannah over a year ago from the Washington DC metro area. I was concerned about the public school system in Georgia and definitely Chatham County which ranks fairly low. But after doing much research I found that 1) the rankings can be deceptive and 2) Marshpoint is a phenomenal school. I went to private schools growing up and Marshpoint blows every institution I ever attended out of the water. The staff is great. The teachers really care. They challenge the students to learn while maintaining the fun. The parent involvement is off the chart. I am continuously amazed at what this school is accomplishing. My daughter started kindergarten at Marshpoint this year and the other day she said to me, 'Mommy, I really like my school. It's a good school. I have fun. I'm glad we came to Savannah.' That says it all right there.
My family has traveled a lot. My son has attened schools in Alabama, South Carolina, Florida, and Marshpoint Elem. in Ga., out of all of them I have to say he and I both think Marshpoint was the best in ALL aspects. Everyone was so nice and helpful, the teachers and staff actually cared. The academics were challenging but yet not so hard it made the kids not like it. The extracirr. activities were great and parent involvement was very high. At the moment we are in Florida and the schools here are forcing so much academics at such higher levels that the students are having NO fun. In Alabama the academic levels were very low, and my son was doing such easy work it was boring him. We are going to be moving back to Savannah and WE can't wait to be back at Marshpoint!
Marshpoint is second to none! My daughter has Down syndrome and has been at Marshpoint since she was 3 years old (pre school intervention). The education she has received is wonderful. She is fully included in a regular education class with the inclusion model. The teachers, staff, principal and kids are loving and supportive. My daughter is happy and well adjusted, she has friends and is learning far more than most people would expect. Marshpoint has given her the chance to prove that she can succeed! We are thrilled with Marshpoint and wish it went through the 12th grade!
Marshpoint is an excellent school. I recently enrolled three children there. Due to a move, they had to switch from another local school. Marshpoint made the transition easy. They love their teachers and are doing well in class.
I too have had two children graduate from Marshpoint and enter into the private education sector. The transition from elementary to middle is not an easy one, no matter where your child goes to school. Not only was I thrilled with the education they recieved at Marshpoint but they are excelling in their current schools. My children were in SEARCH as well. There is always room for improvement in any situation. It appears the parent that made the comment about splitting the schools is in favor of a merger with a neighborhood school. Research has shown this is not in the best interest of ALL children. I will always have a special place in my heart for Marshpoint! Thank you.
The high expectations, dedicated staff and cultural diversity at Marshpoint make it an exceptional school.
Great school makes learning and achievement exciting for all students. Enthusiasm and pride are evident when walking through the doors.
Mrs Kobleur is such a caring and concerned principal. She has the kids best interest at heart. I wish that we could take her with us all the way though to high school !
This is by far the best school for children they are wonderful people and they care enough to take the time with for you and your child I highly recommend this school to anyone
