DO NOT send your child to this school... I had recently moved to this area, my son (7th) grade came from A honor roll. After 2 months in this school his grades went to 30's. The teacher would not issue his book during class for homework, so he couldn't complete it, this went on for over a week. He was the only white kid in his class, which is a lot of pressure for any ethnic background coming to a new school. I have had to have a conference with the principal to get the book and his student id issued. The counselor is a major joke, would never return any calls, had to call dept. of Education to actually get her to do what she was supposed to do. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT moving into this school disctric, middle OR elementary. I don't know what kind of circus they are running at the school, but between terrible, unprofessional administration all the way around, the student bullying that is overlooked, and just the filthyness of the school in general is ridiculous and it infuriates me that our tax money is running this circus.

There is no feedback from the teachers. The kids are not allowed to bring their texbooks home and no other resource was give to us. My daughter struggles every night doing her homework and searches the net to answer her questions. This is just the worst school she has ever attended.

Unsure of why my previous review is not posted here so I'll make it short..take it from Me a Parent that had 2 Children attend this school in 2008, this is without a doubt the worst middle school in Savannah Georgia. I have seen Children break down in tears when they think that they will be attending this school. The teachers are horrible..

My child has experienced some good and bad things from SWMS. Some of the teachers may be supportive, but he met one that was very cruel and lazy. She would always be behind her desk eating something. One of my child's friends found 8 fruit cups in one of her drawers! Attending this school a second year, he has had some problems with the lunch that the school provides. Once, a classmate of his found 2 cockroaches in her lunch. She threw up and had to go home early that day. Also there is lack of communication between the parents and teachers.

Southwest is a good school. I am a student and I was voted to be apart of Student Council. Mr. Cunningham was the advisor and he really showed us different facts about students and how they can make a difference in school. He started the school store and that was successful, the students never stopped having enough school supplies. I enjoyed my three years at Southwest, I am now going to high school. I am going to miss Southwest and the teachers, especially Mrs. Benjamin, Mrs. Cato, Mrs. Hughes-Terry, Mrs. Garvin, and Mr. Cunningham

Southwest has really gone down hill in the past couple of years. There is lack of communication from teachers to the parents. Most teachers seem to not care about helping my child when needed, with the exception of Mrs. Burton who is a very good and caring teacher. I was most disappointed when the school holds dances during school hours and makes students attend that do not wish to and that they would play music that contains crude lyrics!

Southwest Middle School is a great school. This school made AYP, the 8th graders scored the highest in the district on the writing test and made significant gains on the CRCT at all grades levels. They also won the championship for middle schools in basketball. 'WAY TO GO SOUTHWEST EAGLES' How can I forget the capable and knowledgeable principal Mrs. Bernedette Ball-Oliver. She had high expectations for students and student learning. Thank you Mrs. Oliver for a job well done.

I am a student at SWMS for 6th (sea eagles) and 7th(crowned eagles) and I think that it is a wonderful school. The principal is great also and so is Officer Ware. The teachers are great too.But the schools after school activitys could be better but for every thing else it's great.

My son attends SWMS and he enjoys every day there. His is in advanced classes and his teachers are wonderful. Not all teachers hand out worksheets as their method of instruction. I have noticed, though, that the level of parent involvement is low. Overall I feel that this is a wonderful school and I hope to be in Savannah long enough to have my youngest son attend SWMS.

Good school. My child is in the SEARCH/Gifted program. Teachers are wonderful. I chose to send her here over a magnet academy. Principle is outstanding. She runs a tight ship. Which is important in middle school.

I am not a parent I am a proud former student at SouthWest middle school. I was there for sixth grade for the 2002-2003 school year, and was currently enrolled in Mr. Shippy's homeroom. I've been to a lot of schools in my life, but being a SouthWest middle school Golden Eagle was home to me. I had alot of fun and my teachers were the best teachers I've ever had, especially Mr. Shippy! I love SouthWest middle school and I hope it stands proud for many, many, more years. Sincerly, Thomas Dalton Holley

The quality of the academeics here at SWMiddle is below average. This is my son's first year at SW Middle. He is in the 6th grade and he will not return for the '05-'06 school year. My son receives special education services but his support teacher is not qualified to give him the support he requires or deserves in the school. There are extracurricular activites available and I have been pleased by those only. I am not sure about the parent involvement but I can say that I am at SW Middle talking to anyone that will isten from the assistant prinicples to the the counselors and teachers. I am still very dissatisfied! The entire school needs to be treated like a computer with a virus. Shut it down and put in the rescue disk, quick!

My son went to this school from 1999-2002. sixth grade wasn't too bad but 7th was just terrible. The methods of teaching were not preferred by the students or the parents, and they could not keep teachers. My son had 13 teachers for Science in one 9 week period and his grades because of it were horrible. the other classes had trouble keeping teachers also but not as bad at the one class. The 2001/2002 year I believe was the year a new principle and staff were added. There was little or no difference. The teachers don't teach, they just hand out worksheets and tell the kids to complete them. Well.overall I rate this school a 3 out of 5. Also nothing good to say about Laidlaw Bus transportation. My daughter is going into middle school next year and I will not let her go there. she is going to a Prep Academy where she will get the education she deserves.
