I have 3 kids in the school that are recent transfers from excellent out of state schools. I have been very pleased with the teaching and adminstrative staff and think the school is doing a great job. I would recomment this school kto anyone.
The new principal is excellent and really seems to be helping school morale. She is doing a great job at bringing parents and teachers together. My child loves going to school and loves her teacher and her school!
One star. They have teachers who don't care and it seems admin who don't either. They only seem to do crowd control.
My daughter is in Pre-K at Poplar and I truely can't be more pleased with the school. Even as a preschooler she is involved in the full school cirriculum. She is excited about school and is growing as a child wonderfully!! Thanks Mrs. Loper, Ms. Stacey and Poplar Road Elementary.
I have 2 children at Poplar Rd. In my experience, the teachers are great. The teachers are very welcoming of parents to visit classes and participate in any activity they wish. The principal and assistant principals are in class and walk the halls. They call all the children by name, which with 725 students is remarkable. Discipline is fair, and the teachers and staff are quite aware of the visitors and their comings and goings. Parental involvement is low. Their are a few dedicated individuals who do show up for PTO and school activities. Their are many opportunities available to parents who wish to be involved. And many ways to support the school and its functions. As PTO President, I will make a point of making everyone welcome and wish to include anyone and everyone. The PTO has many new ideas that we hope to engage in the coming year!
my daughter has been going to poplar road for three years and we are extremely happy with the teachers and staff, parental involvement seems low.A+
I have 2 children ages 5 and 7 and have been here for 3 years. The teachers have no support when it comes to discipline. They are left to handle. There is very low parental involvement. I feel PE could have more organized sports. Agree with other comment, Not welcoming. Teachers are the other hand are EXCELLENT! Just hope they stick around.
Previously a homeschool parent, I sent my 2nd and 4th grader to school last school year and was pleased beyond measure. The class sizes were small and the teachers were in control of their class. The principal walked the halls and knew her students and teachers and supported her teachers with discipline problems. Maybe this year will be as great.
2002-2003 Year was the first year for my son to be in public school, we have had him in private. He started Poplar Road Elem. in the 3rd grade. It was a very hard change for all of us, but everyone I came in contact with at Poplar was very nice. By the end of the year he really was comfortable about the change and I have to give credit to his teachers and everyone at the school, and alot of prayers. No school is perfect, for noone is perfect we must all work together in loving and teaching our children. Keep up the good work!
My child has been attending this school for 3 years now and discipline has been getting worse. There's no support for the teacher's dealing with discipline problems, rather the offending child gets 2nd, 3rd and 4th chances. Parents are not being made welcome. The only good thing so far is, that my child has had excellent teachers every year and was able to excell. Will our luck hold? Who knows.
