My daughter has attended HOMS for 3 years now. She is thriving in the environment, and we love the administration. From the no junk food policy, organic vegetable garden, lovely wooden materials, and wonderful books we feel right at home. They are teaching for the 21st century so will you not find flashcards, drill sheets, or extensive testing. You will find that your child is allowed to go to the bathroom without a hall pass, can get water or snacks when they like, and can learn ahead at their own pace. I feel confident that my daughter has been learning well above other children in similar schools, because they allow her to move at her own pace. She is growing up to be a leader, an innovative thinker, and very creative. Yes, they have a PTO, like any other school, that raises funds for extra curricular activities. However, I have never seen a huge drive to solicit parents for money. There are a lot of working parents of children that attend HOMS and would love to see more involvement. However, this year has already seen a great improvement in that area with a new PTO and some wonderful events planned to bring families closer together.

We are going on our 4th year at Harbour Oaks. I have been extremely pleased with the curriculum and the teachers go above and beyond. My son loves going to school now and is able to enjoy so many things that public school doesn't offer. Montessori teaches real word skills along with regular curriculum.

Harbour Oaks Montessori School is absolutely amazing!!! As a Montessori teacher who has taught nationally and internationally I have seen many schools. After speaking at length with the staff and viewing the classrooms I am confident that Harbour Oaks is as fantastic as they come. Truly, if I had a choice of where to send a child of my own, I would not only choose Harbour Oaks but it would be my top choice. It is clear from speaking with the staff and seeing the classrooms and campus that authentic Montessori is their top priority. This is huge to me as it shows their professional integrity.

Anna one of the owners is an absolute delight. She is knowledgeable, kind, helpful and just what any parent looking for a wonderfully run school and teacher would like to see. She cares about the children and the quality of education her school offers to the children.

Harbour Oaks Montessori is a fantastic school! I have 2 children there, a son in upper elementary and a daugther in Primary. They are both clearly excelling at this school. We came from another Montessori that merged in Nov 2012 and I like this school much better because the teachers are excellent AND there are more afterschool options like guitar, ballet, chess, science club, art, play ball... AND as an extra perk, it even has a gymnasium that allows play on rainy or cold days. Yes, afterschool options are separate fees varying in price which isn't paid to HOMS. The PTO does do fund raising for the school, but I only know of fund raising for overnight field trips from the school. They send weekly email updates. I can text and email the teachers. Easy to communicate. I asked one of my children's teachers if she had any idea why they've had such awful 1 star reviews here, mixed with so many 5 star reviews; especially when I've only seen good at this school. She told me that they thought it was one disgruntled person, but there wasn't anything they could really do about it.. If you really want to know who's tellinig the truth, come observe a classroom and all will be clear.

Horrible experience, safe your time, your child's time, and your hard earned money, do not take your child to this school. It is cheap and only worried about money. They don't care about your child, only the money. All the other bad reviews were more than correct, read them! I can't stress it enough..please, please, please...do not bring your child here!

Harbour Oaks is a truly amazing school with highly qualifies teacher and an outstanding ability to meet each child's needs. My son was failing in the public school system and is thriving in Montessori because the curriculum is individualized to meet his needs.

Harbour Oaks is a fantastic and truly authentic Montessori experience. I read reviews on this page all the way back to 2010, and the majority of them are great. This is in clear support of my experience with Harbour Oaks. Teachers work tirelessly to maintain classrooms in which Dr. Montessori herself would be at home. Harbour Oaks is an AMS school with Montessori trained guides in every single classroom. Guides in these classrooms are either AMI or AMS certified, and as far as one school of thought being better than the other, that simply is not true. Montessori is education for today and for the future. This is a family run business of Montessorians, all of whom attended Montessori school themselves. Simply walk into the school, attend an event, or let your child spend a day in the classroom and see the difference for yourself.

Wonderful learning environment for student of all ages and abilities. Your child will get a chance to learn at their own pace and be challenged in many different areas. Each child is an individual and treated with respect and kindnees!

Harbour Oaks is a great learning environment. Its a place where kids can go, learn the way that THEY understand best, at THEIR pace, and know what its like to be able to be themselves. The staff truly cares about the kids, the student/teacher ratio cannot be beat, and the classrooms are amazing. Not the mention that the learning goes so far beyond "reading, writing and arithmetic".

More concerned about fundraising than helping your child learn. Most of the staff and administration are related or childhood friends. This should have sent off warning bells in my head sooner. They USE Montessori by telling you that your child is progressing and not having to show results. I still believe in montessori but this school is truly a bad example.

This is my child's first year at HO and it will be his last. Communication is poor. We thought that private school would provide our chld with more attention but that hasn't been the case. His public school teachers were easier to connect with and have been more on top of things. I'm not sure what he actually learned this year either and just hope he's just not too behind his peers next year. The school is very attractive but that's where it ends. It is not AMI certified either. Parents should be aware of that when choosing a Montessori school. We didn't research this and realize now that anyone can call themselves Montessori-that doesn't mean they are official. I would not recommend this school.

This is my children's first year at Harbour Oaks Montessori. I have to say they have a great group of teachers. I love the time and attention the teachers take with each student. They have allowed the children to learn and grow with support at their own pace. I highly recommend this school!!

This is the sixth year that my children have been enrolled in HOMS. We moved from another Montessori school in the area that is now merging with our school. I have heard that some of the families that will be joining us have some concerns based on reviews given here. I encourage anyone with a concern to visit the school and speak with both staff and parents who currently have children enrolled here. My families experience at HOMS has been really good. Both of my children are happy and sucessful. The administration has been fair, supportive and really goes to great lengths to have the school be a community. I have so enjoyed our time at HOMS and sincerely welcome everyone to stop in for a tour. Parents are welcome to stop in anytime and are encouraged to get to know everyone. Don't just go by a review on a web-site. Stop in and form your own opinion. I would not have two children at HOMS for so long if I did not believe strongly that HOMS is a GREAT SCHOOL : )

My husband and I have 2 kids attending HOMS. We think the school is just great. Our kids seem to be doing really well. We like getting to know the other families at the school and knowing that the staff really has our kids best interest at heart. Our plan is to have both kids stay at HOMS through middle school. (wouldn't it be great if they extend the programs through high school?)

My child has been enrolled at HOMS since January of this year. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the teachers and leadership at the school. The teachers are all certified Montessori teachers with experience and it shows. They genuinely care about meeting the needs of each child and go above and beyond to do so. They respect individuality and creativity and encourage each child to be themselves while successfully teaching them academics as well as life skills. The kids love the school and are supportive of one another. If you have an opportunity to observe the classrooms and take a tour of the school, I highly recommend doing so! The kids love the school and are supportive of one another. It is amazing to watch and I would encourage you to do so. HOMS is always supportive of observations and tours.

My kids have been enrolled at (HOMS) Harbour Oaks Montessori for over 5 years now and I could not be more excited witjh the school. Recently there was an annoucement that another school would be merging into Harbour Oaks. I can not wait to meet the new familes. I was speaking with the staff at HOMS today and said there were concerns from the new parents about the bad reviews on this sight. I am completely confused by those remarks as they represent nothing in my experience with the school. The teachers are great and my kids enjoy attending the school. They have learned far more than their peers in the neighborhood. I am also perplexed by the comments about the school being a daycare. The teachers take years of training to be a "TEACHER" and the materials in the classroom are nothing like you would see in a day care. If you visit the school and observe the class rooms you will see the truth and all doubts will be gone.

My child has attended HOM for three years now and I have been nothing but thrilled at the level of education. The Montessori process allows my child to excell at there pace and not be held back to the slowest child in the group. We got the Iowa test results recently and she scored an average of three grades higher. Not to mention she loves going to school! I highly recommend Garboyr Oaks!!!

My oldest son was enrolled for a year and two months before we pulled him out because of concerns whether he was learning, as well as how well he was being watched. I found him wandering outside alone twice in one week. My second son was enrolled in a different Montessori program, which woke us up even further: the differences between the two programs were drastic. Harbor Oaks excuses a lot of bad teaching and management practices under the name "Montessori" when they have no clear principal what it means. Skip this school and go to a good AMI rated ( NOT AMA) school. Your child will thank you later.

My child has been at this school for 3 years and is in the elementary program. We transferred from another school and couldn't be more pleased at how happy, well-rounded and excited our child is about learning. The teachers are dedicated and treat each child as an individual. My child has a few years to go, but am hoping that the schools offers high school because I can't imagine ever being anywhere else.

The school we are transfering to asked incredulously..." What do they teach". Well, sadly, as we watched our child slip further and further away from her progress of past years we could only come up with one word 'nothing.' This school sadly lost dedicated staff devoted to an incredible curriculum that excited and challenged my child...now at the dinner table, instead of excitement over what was learned during the day, statements are made like "brilliant people don't go to college". Well guess what? Brilliant people don't pay thousands for their kids to float through their day, ending up a year behind other programs either!

This place is more like a daycare than a school, a bad daycare at that. Run the other way and find a different Montessori school, one that practices the theory.

I just wanted to warn everyone this is not the school you want your child to go to. They do not update you on your child learning instead they ask for donations everyweek not including the $500-$1000 a month for your child tuition. Like the parents say on the reviews it's a scam and the kids have to suffer for the school actions. Education is very important to me if I'm willing to pay for my child schooling. Harbour Oaks Montessori School staff is there to collect money not teach your kid(s). Please note that I am not mad just disappointed and schools like this should be shut down.

imagine our dismay and distress today after a meeting with our new school guidance counselor and teacher to find out that our child is operating more than two grades below current level, not because of any disability, not because it was shown "in a different way" as the Harbour oaks teacher kept telling us for the past 2 years but because the concepts were never ever introduced! Neither the teacher nor the director ever would take our concerns seriously and now we sit embarassed like we are bad parents when the couselor tells us unfortunatly that is the reputation this school has with the public school system...and now our kid pays the price!

I have been affiliated with HOMS for about 4 years now. I am not a parent or a staff member. I believe that this school has true montessori principles in place and the best interest of the children at hand. Although there are some glitches in the administration and/or the staff turn over; not any more or less than any other school you pass through. I have had a fantastic experience with both the administration as well as the staff and would definately recommend this school to families!

I have just read all of the reviews regarding HOMS and, as a past teacher at the school, felt called to respond. As with any product/service, reviews are helpful and necessary for making decisions in today's world. That being said reviews are very open to interpretation and can really ruin a school due to one or two disgruntled customers. So please take that into consideration when reading about and discerning HOMS. Yes, this school is run by a family; an extremely close family that is constantly growing, changing, educating and loving children! Their close family ties are their strongest assets. When I was a teacher there I was given everything I asked for and needed for my classroom and students. This would not have been the case if all they cared about was making money. They also paid for further training, conferences and at school workshops to help their staff continue to grow in knowledge. The classrooms are GORGEOUS and the thought and care put into the environment is astounding! This is a true and authentic Montessori school and any child that can go there is a very lucky one indeed.

This school is a family business gone wrong!! unfortunately its the children that suffer from the greed of the admin. Trust me they talk a good talk, but once you sign the contract you can't get those responsible to tell you what you need to know about your childs development or lack of.

Please beware of this school! It is the administration writing all the positive reviews. Please do not pay to send your children here to sacrifice their education and formative years. While there is one teacher there who is very caring, most of the staff is under-educated and ill-prepared to instruct in traditional Montessori curricula.

My kids have been at Harbour Oaks for over 6 years. I am very pleased with their development. I'm constantly amazed at their desire to learn new things. At Harbour Oaks, I know my kids are in good hands. As an entrepreneur, I look at the world differently. I am not limited by the "box" this world tries to put me in and it's great to see that spirit taught to my children.

We too have spent thousands of dollars in several years of tuition. I disagree with the parent who said pre- k learns more. My child in primary learned nouns, verbs, and most of the 50 states. More importmant the teacher really, really cared about my child and gave me updates all the time. I can agree with the parent who complained about the fees. HUGE material fees and they still ask for everything. Big field trip fees this year and few field trips. We were told at Christmas not to buy gifts for teachers and spend more money on the class. This may be the new trend with struggling small schools. We will be back if we know that the teachers will be too.

We have 2 children that have been at the school for 4 years. The pre-primary program and primary program overall are good, but so many things that children in public schools and lottery-funded programs are getting ours have not without us teaching it at home. How about learning to count money, the community they live-in, etc. The elementary program is a big joke and I wish that we had left when we first decided to. The children are allowed to do whatever they want to without any guidance. Without what we do at home, our daughter would not have progressed at all. Basically, we have paid over $50,000 a year for not a whole lot. I do not recommend this school at all except for the pre-primary program.

I had 4 children in Harbour Oaks until we moved. They have all been in Montessori schools since they were 3 years old. Harbour Oaks was a great fit for my children. The teachers were fantastic and fully utilized the Montessori teaching method. It was a very self directed environment with the right amount of teaching and guidance provided. Also, for us it was great that HOMS was a AMS school with AMS certified teachers. It made the transition for the children very easy. They also offered music, spanish and art which was a plus as our previous school did not. Thanks to the school owners and teachers' support we had a seamless transition to another Montessori school in another state. Interestingly, we found out that two of our children were performing above grade level based on the new school requirements. I would highly recommend HOMS.

I had a child at HOMS until recently and plan to send my second child as well. HOMS is a certified AMS school which means that the teachers are certified and the school follows the Montessori method and principles. The feeling of community at this school is one of its best features. The next best feature is the knowledge of teaching/learning theories by the teachers and administrators. So much better than public school that many people think is the 'gold standard'. You will be amazed at what your child can achieve--and enjoy-- in a Montessori environment.

I agree that there sould be some sort of art or music program. This school is fully funded by the parents (time and money) and is not geared toward working parents. They should also use the money to get a van for school trips.

I have overall been disappointed in this school. They offer no real music program, the art and Spanish class is very basic, no computers, no physical education program. The day to day running of the school seems very unorganized. I feel the education my child has received here has not been worth the money we have paid. This school talks a good talk but failed to deliver!

Our family has been at Harbour Oaks for 4 years and are thrilled with the quality of education that our children have gotten. Each of the teachers are well trained and share the same Montessori philosophy. They are true and always do what is in the best interest of each child. I have observed all of the classrooms and am completely amazed at how calm and happy the children are. What astounds me even more is the level of work the children are on. They seem to work because they love it not because the teacher is telling them what to do (as we experienced in the county schools).

This is my son's third year with HOMS and I can honestly say it is the best experience I could have ever wanted for him. He started reading at 3 years of age, write at 4 years of age and has been thriving in many other areas. This school's embracement for diversity is particularly wonderful with events like International Night, various programs like celebrating Chinese New Year, and African Acrobats show that comes to school. There are also many other events. My son knows more about geography than I knew in third grade! The teachers are wonderful, the staff is glad to talk about various issues when approached. I'm not trying to imply that the school is perfect as that is something that's impossible to reach for any parent, teacher, or staff member, but I believe that at Harbour Oaks everyone works together to enrich the children.

I have been with the school for four years now and feel lucky to work in this environment. I have been through the Montessori training, observed at many other schools and attended many workshops within the Montessori community. I believe that I can confidently say that we are offering an authentic Montessori program, with the focus on the needs of the child. Of course, not every parent will be happy in every situation, but I believe that the children are, in fact, happy and well adjusted, which is my main goal. I also believe that if you were to compare our program to that of other Montessori schools, you would find that we are either on par or above the others. A school is ever-changing and therefore a work in progress, but I am proud to say that I am a part of this school.

I don't rate this high but I don't rate it low. They don't look into backgrounds to well of parents and if you are a single parent or do not have custody of your child they tend to look at the parent who has enrolled them in hte school as the top person. The other parent gets frowned upon and not likely to be talked to and things kept from them. Do they teach the kids well I will have to say yes but as for knowing who someone really is as a person and taking time with the parent that is not the everyday parent they kinda push oyu aside.
