This school is horrible. My child is now in the 5th grade and have been in attendance at this school since PRE-K. Each year this school gets a new principle and each year the leadership is HORRIBLE. The school was much better when it was ran by the male principal that they had 5 years ago. The teachers DO NOT care about the children. They try to be strict on the children about the dress code and they come to school dressed inappropriate. They are doing a horrible job at teaching the kids. I have seen a tremendous decline in this school. I am so GRATEFUL that this is my child s last year at Wynbrooke. Instead of teaching the kids they are worried about the color bow in their hair. I have had an experience with the teachers calling the kids stupid and telling them to shut up. This school is really a disaster. I do not want to speak down on all of the teachers but the majority of them there are not interested in teaching your child. I am so disappointed in this school. Years ago, I had nothing but good things to say about this school it is declining FAST!!! I DO NOT recommend this school to anyone!
I am an active parent in this school and I have seen this school go completely downhill. The professionalism amongst the staff and administrators is not professional. The teachers dress anyway they like, but yet and still they want a strict uniform policy for the children. There have been several complaints taken to the school broad throughout this year and last year. The only reason I continue to allow my children to attend this school is because my house has not sold in the community we live in right behind the school. My daughter finished fifth grade here, but my youngest daughter (3rd grade) has a teacher who surely has no passion or drive to teach the students. Her passion must be the check because she surely is out to either fail her students or simply not give a darn about their education. My son is in the fourth grade and he is doing well but could be doing better. I would not recommend this school for any child to attend, there is only one good teacher per grade the other comments made surely didn t lie about that. The test scores have significantly decreased over the past 5 years. They can t even keep a permanent principal there; they have had 4 principals in 4yrs
Extremely disappointed. This school has no leadership and an abundance of apathy. When you drive up to the school you can see that the building and grounds have not been maintained appropriately. The hallways are dirty. The cafeteria needs new chairs. The teachers have no dress code - t-shirts, tights and flip flops are not ok (especially when the children are in uniforms. Everyone should have some sort of uniform which means no suggestive clothing whatsoever (no tight shirts and short skirts). Also... there are not many extracurricular programs for the kids. The school website is not informative nor is it up-to-date. Parents fight to get the one good teacher that they have in each grade. Not what you would expect for a theme school. Not even sure what the theme is and I have inquired for two years now. I have no idea why the rating is still so high. I hate to pay for private school but sometimes you get what you pay for. In this case, I paid nothing and my child got nothing from being there. Fortunately, I continue to work with my child at home but I wish the 5+ hours she spent at school also deemed beneficial.
I will be withdrawing my kids from this school and sending them somewhere more diverse and where kids can be there self. This school is getting worst and teachers are lacking professionalism.
My child has attended this school for three years and I have no complaints. She is performing 2 grades above in reading and one grade level in math and in the 95 percentile on standardized tests. It is definitely one of the better primary schools in South Dekalb County; the test scores clearly confirm this fact. The parental involvement is required ib order for your child to attend and this makes all the difference. I think the administrative staff is becoming more innovative; as an example, White Boards (Promethian) are used in every grade at the school. More and more parents are sending their children to Wynbrooke (due to underperformance in other local schools) and the school is at capacity (~1000 students). The teachers are great, they provide afterschool tutorial to all children identified as needing extra help. This is an excellent public school doing a great job in a county with lots of issues!
Leadership could be better. School has lost its educational focus since Mr. Phillips left. Teachers are unprofessional due to a lack of leadership.
Our son has been at Wynbrooke since Kindergarden. He is finishing first grade. Our experience has been stellar. We are very pleased with the instructors and staff. Parental involvement is required and you can see the benefits to the children everyday. My child loves learning. Wynbrooke has been a great partner in our child's education.
By FAR Wynbrooke is one of the BEST schools in Dekalb County, it's simple, do the math along with your research. Great parental involvement. I think the Principal needs some work and some innovation, I am not impressed with her nor the Assistant Principals whom I view as lazy, most parents will rarely see them. Wybrooke could be a much more stellar school if it had the right Leadership. I think a new Principal is needed, while the current Principal is fairly new, I think enough time has passed and its time for more innovation. Overall, its an Excellent school with great caring parents and some very good teachers, but a few bad teachers are there also.
Wynbrooke is a great school I love the way the principle and the staff cares about the children. Ms Perez, Pope, Peoples Kelly and Ms sewall ...are wonderful teachers if you are looking for a great school in stone mountain area
I think wynbrooke is a great school yhat cares and my daughters teacher Mrs.Clark cares about the childrens education and thats what we need in our community.
My child has attended Wynbrooke for 5 years and I have not as of yet have one complaint to voice. Yet, only to voice and rave how great the school is. The teachers and extended staff are wonderful, pesonal and sincere, and the parent involvment is great. The level of academics is exceptional- not to mention for the past 3 years have been number one in test scores for dekalb county schools. My oldest son will finish his last year there next year and my youngest will be attending kindergarten next year following his brothers footsteps.
Wynbrooke has been a blessing to my family. The teachers are great and very creative. My son is in 2nd grade and is performing on a 4th grade level.
The testing scores were admirable compared to the state's averages however I have noticed a pattern in the science and math areas in the 4th and 5th grade levels which indicates that some additional emphasis need to be placed on these subjects. If more tutoring is needed than the Wynbrooke family need to implement some type of afterschool or weekend programs. I love Wynbrooke and I want it to continue its successful path.
Wynbrooke, is an excellent school but there are some areas that require attention. I am an educator and a parent of a Wynbrooke student. The curriculum is good but I do think that some of the teachers tend to overload the students with homework. Parents tend to be very involved and many of the assignments require parents to assist, taking this into consideration there needs to be some sort of balance that allows a parent to assist their Wynbrooke student while at the same time, allowing them to maintain a good stress free home environment. Too much homework can lead to an overload. I try to have my boys do extra activities outside the home, but am faced with homework that puts a strain on family activities. Wynbrooke is good but the work given and some of their teachers need to be reviewed.
Wynbrooke has been an exceptional and wonderful experience for my family. My son is in the 1st grade and is performing on a 3rd grade level. I have been working with his teachers one on one and they continue to challenge him. It has been great working with the staff at wynbrooke. Mr Phillips has always addressed any of my concerns one on one and shows a genuine concern for my child. He does make you feel at home with his 'homeboy' approach but it has been nothing but professional. I'm proud to have Mr. Phillips working with my child and truly believe that it has only had a positive influence for my son to see him in action. I respect him and thank God he is in this position. But everything can't be perfect The food is not that great but you have to take the good with the bad.
I absolutely love Wynbrooke Theme School. It has truly been a gift from God for my children and our family. When my daughter was in 1st grade, I was so disappointed because she would have to attend another neighboring school. Then, we found Wynbrooke. I was impress then and I am even more impress, now. My daughter is now in 5th grade and my son now attends and he in 2nd grade. It has been a wonderful experience. Both my children love their school and their teachers. They are both in the gifted program and my husband and I feel truly blessed to have Wynbrooke. We have even formed lasting friendships with parents and staff. Thank you Wynbrooke for coming along when you did. God Bless all of you!
For a young school Wynbrooke have excelled in all phases of education. I have for the first time since living in this country experienced what I learned in college many years ago. This is a school where the 3 R's are taught, and where knowledge is definitely imparted to the students. I think Mr. Phillips is a great principal, and being able to relate to his parents does not make him, 'homeboy' but someone who can be a Principal, a peer, a father, a brother, an uncle, and a friend. Yes, he wears all those hats and is still able to be a great disciplinarian in the most professional way possible. Mr. Phillips & Administrators, continue to keep up the good work. I might be a small fish in the ocean, but I know quality when I see it, and it is at Wynbrooke Theme School.
I feel Wynbrooke is not meeting expectations that they are trying to promote for our children. One of the biggest problems I found at this school, was the fact the principal wants to be everybody's homeboy. You cannot do this when you are in an administrative role. He is continously losing good teachers each year, opposed to getting rid of the teachers that are not promoting a good enviroment for our children. The bad teachers continue to be shuffled around, rather than being shuffled out the door. Mr. Phillips stop being everyone's friend, and start promoting a good environment for our children. Don't they deserve it!
My children attended the o4-05 school year. I was very disappointed. I felt that the staff was much more interested in talking on their cell phones and having high test scores than they were enjoying being teachers. My daughter had a wonderful kindergarten teacher, but when I had an issue with my sons teacher I felt I was hushed by administration and my concerns were ignored. I was not impressed by much at this school and I was glad to not return. I experienced the strangest most unethical things during my year at this school - Administration is questionable.
Wynbrooke is an execellent school with a strong academic program. I have been very pleased with all aspects of my child's educational experience. He is happy, he is learning, and he looks forward to school each day. He told me, himself, that he feels like he is being challenged to learn more and behave appropriately. I'm elated that he is finally being afforded the opportunity to soar. Thanks, to the wonderful faculty and staff, for making Wynbrooke a place where children matter.
