This school is absoutely disturbing, it is evident that some are the teachets are there for one reason only a PayCheck. Instead of creating a therapuetic learning atmosphere for the students to learn, the teachers are too busy on their cell phones, or either screaming at their students at the top of their longs over petty issues, such as a child asking to borrow a pencil! Not to mention that some of the sixth grade teachers have habit of insulting their students out in the open.A sixth grade liteature teacher has nadty habit about this. I was warned about this school but wanted to give smm a try, that was the worst I have ever done! This school needs major overhaul, and I want bring my child back next year!
If you can do something about it, please do not send your child to this school. The administration and some of the teachers are the very obstacles standing in the students way of a quality education. This year alone the administration have told students they are not allowed to go to the bathroom at all during school hours. They allowed them to use cell phones to text in to get on a news show. Remember cell phones are not allowed in school! If you are an active parent in your child's education they rather you not be. Parents, students and quality teacher complaints are dismissed. My husband and I have had enough of this school. We were able to place our child in a better school for her last year of middle school. Many other parents are trying to do the same. I only wish we were able to do so earlier. The few positives for the school are the Honor Society. The teacher over the Honor Society is the 6th grade Science teacher. He genuinely cares about his students. Our daughter has made some good friends. It is these same friends who will now be separated because, they are all getting transferred to better schools.
Stone Mountain Middle is an excellent school. I am a student on the gifted team, and the experience i have had the past three years has been wonderful. There are caring teachers, and it gives its students a rigorous curriculum. We have a new principal that truly cares about the students. There are several extrecurricular activities, includin band, chorus, ambasadors, FBLA, FCCLA, Art Club, Beta Club, Technology club, Ladies of Destinction, 21st Century, Science Club, Dance Team, Football, Track, Gems, Girl Scouts, Step, and Basketball. We have made AYP three years in a row, and there are very few fights. The resources are there. all you have to do is try and dedicate yourself, and there are people there to put you in the right direction. I am 14 and in the 8th grade.
moved from nyc and i wish i would of seen the ratings of this school before hand. My daughter was threating to get jumped, went to the school too many times for this issue. Definitely moving to a different county because of this school.. would not recommend this school for my dog, let alone any child
The school has one the best band in Georgia, with a wonderful director. Athletics are at a high standard. Academics;the teachers are wonderful. I don't like the change of principal though, the leadership of the school is much different now. Doesn't seem like parents are around the school too much. As for safety, it's been very safe. No incidents with in campus grounds, fights barely break out to a very bad phase. As for discipline, the school need a lot of work on that. It just doesn't feel right roaming through halls where you can't even get pass, or hearing teachers and students having an argument. Over all, it's an okay school.
my daughter goes to this school and i'm soo disapointed
I have just recently graduated from stone mountain middle. Since they have relocated to the new school i loved the experience. The teacher truely do care for their students. And the security is always around so it gives the feel of safety. To me the principle can do a lot of self improvement. Over all the extra activites are great. The football team went 5-1[woot woot!]. the cheerleaders were alright. and the dance was wonderful[at least the captins were]. So i would approve for any students to attend stone mountain middle.
My oldest daughter was a student here back in the late 90's and my middle daughter is a student here now. The most of the staff actually cares about the students. As for school safety....that's not an issue. Very few fights have occurred. The academic program is sound.
I am an 8th grader here at smms.I have been here since the 6th grade. Iam doing very well compared to others at my school. my g.p.a. is 3.5. when i see people acting bad i just say to myself i cant w8 until i get out of here. But the band is the best!
Relocating from a northern state 9 mos ago, this is our first and last year at SMMS. SMMS has afforded me the opportunity to see what I am not looking for in school. Academically, my child has a earned a 3.2GPA and I seroiusly wonder if that reflects a real 3.2GPA. The homework ethic is ridicilous and I can only pray (and paricipate in PTA's) that things get better in years to come. Our children are being sent out illprepared for college, let alone the working world. SMMS, please take a good look at yourselves, inside and out.
