The principal and staff are amazing here! They have spirit days every friday, carnivals & laps for longhorns to raise money, and even though the state has advanced learning opportunities starting in 1st grade, the school has reading and math enrichment programs for those students who are ahead in those areas! The cafeteria has lots of choices as well as soy milk for those with dietary preferences or allergies. Love this school!
I can not say enough great things about this school! The principal is involved in the school, she greets the students in the morning with hugs and smiles. I sent an email to her and was called back and given her attention. My son and the other students are excited to see her. Everyone in the school is so polite and seem happy! The amount of learning that has taken place in half of a year is amazing. The teaching staff is top notch, just walking in the hallways you can see the love they have for the school and the students. Parents are welcomed to the school to enjoy lunch with their children and there are even parents who eat lunch with other children to make them feel special! The PTA has wonderful events to support the school, and it is easy to get involved.
Mrs. Chin is the greatest teacher I have ever experienced at Sugar hill, She is caring and compassionate about her students..My child graduated from 2nd grade in tears because she is going to miss her teacher... Try your best to get your child in Mrs. Chin's class she is so worth asking for. I could only rate the school a 3 because of the following paragraph On the other hand, Mrs. Gammon is Mrs. Gammon the Grinch.......unless your child needs to be heavily disciplined you do not want your child in her class. For well behaved intelligent children. She is a BORE and Shrew. My child said she was only fun once the entire year. Kindergarten should be a fun learning experience not one your child is just waiting out. Get a clue Mrs. Gammon or change your profession. The staff is very friendly in the front of office....proficient
My child has the best kindergarten teacher! She has learned so much this year and I give all the credit to her wonderful teacher and also the awesome parapro.
This school is well established and always giving so much for the education of the children. The teachers all go above and beyond the extra mile for the kids.
We love Sugar Hill Elementary. We have been impressed with the regular education staff as well as the special education staff. The administrators are wonderful as well as all the support staff. One of the hardest working PTA's around! Everyone works together to do their best for our kids. We are proud to be Sugar Hill Eagles!
We found the teachers and administration to quickly implement a 'circle the wagons' defensive approach toward parents if you dare to go beyond collecting box tops and carrying out the usual controlled PTA activites. Not sure why...
I love this school it has been great for both of my children. The teachers are dedicated in making sure that the kids are pushed and dedicated in teaching outside the box. We kind of fell into sugar hill but, I am greatful that we did!
I can't tell you what a great experience it has been to be a part of this community. I have volunteered extensively in the school and love the environment. It is a happy, positive place. My child's standardized test scores have exceeded all expectations and I know the quality of education is as good as he can get at any elementary school. Any doubts, arrange a visit and see what this school has to offer -- you will be glad you did.
Sugar Hill is a community school at it's best. High level of parent involvement, Excellent Administration, Very active counselors and the majority of the staff are the kind of teacher your want your child to have, imaginative, caring and well responsive to the needs of the kids. This school has the advantage of having a young Male counselor as a role model for the boys. Disadvantages: Large number of non English speaking families. Growing population forces the use of 'portables'
I love Sugar Hill Elementary! It is an amazing school with an amazing staff who really care about their students. My daughters have a love for learning because of the excellent teaching and encouragemnet they receive each day. It's not just about tests it's about becoming life long learners at Sugar Hill. And the PTA is wonderful!
absolutely a best kept secret!!! this is my son's first year there and we have loved every moment. He looks forward to school every day...okay maybe not every day! His teacher has been great, challenging him if he seems to get bored with whatever they are studying. I know this school is not ranked at the top of Georgia's school list but it is at the top of my list. Sugar Hill Elementary is a small, welcoming family for all that attend there. The staff really care about the children and the PTA is fantastic in working hard to raise money for the school and the children. We love it!!!
I hope this stays as one of the best kept secrets in the area. So nice to have such a quality elementary school with a real small town community atmosphere. I have volunteered extensively in the school and am impressed with the staff and their obvious level of satisfaction. My son's reading level has soared to a Grade 13 level even though he is one of the youngest in his grade levels and started off in a remedial reading program. Their science 'special' is fun and educational. The music and art teachers create such a love of the arts in the kids...without the kids evening knowing it. Delightful
Absolutely the best in my opinion. I have two special needs children who attended Sugar Hill Elementary for the last two school years. They are in grades 3 and 5 this coming school year. The administrative and teaching staffs have been wonderful. I never have to fear for my children's safety nor treatment by others at school. The teaching staff are highly professional, effective and caring. My children excell academically at Sugar Hill and enjoy the learning experience. One terrific school.
My child attended Sugar Hill Elem during 2005 & 2006. His teachers were both awesome! He attended at the end of 3rd grade & they were already teaching division whereas Simonton Elem in L'ville was barely learning multiplication and was behind in all subjects. 4th grade was very good also. My child was already way ahead of my niece's 5th grade in Clayton Co in all subjects. The teachers at Sugar Hill Elem teaches the students and make sure they understand unlike the prev school. My child learned alot and was challenged therefore was motivated. Best school ever! (Two thumbs up, 5 stars!)
Curriculum is decent, but staff is not good. I have had several bad experiences with the staff at this school. Also, my 5 yr old came here right out of pre-k, and was way ahead for the 1st half of the year! It was just a review from what she had learned in Pre-K. (Her Pre-K was in another county.)
