Burke County Middle School is a good school. Many of the teachers are enthusiastic and provide a quality education for the students. The new principal,Ms. Ivery is very dedicated and I can see that she works dilligently to ensure the student's and school's success. (She knows most of the students by name and it's a fairly large school). When compared to middle schools in surrounding areas, I would recommend this middle school before any other.

I feel that sometime the teachers wait until it is too late to help a child before they ask for a conference with the parent. I understand that a lot of parents are not becoming involved in their childs education, but the teachers cannot allow their past experiences with parents to color their perception of incoming parents. If the teachers give up on making a difference what chance do the children have for we all know that some homes are not the best environmentally. Society has put barriers up where people feel that they will be chastized for helping and accused of intefering. It starts at the top!
