My daughter has been a student from kindergarden now through third grade. We have had a great experience with the staff and teachers . I have been very happy with the teachers so far and really happy with the principle, Mrs. Robinson. Parent and staff communication is very incouraged with a great open door policy. This school really works to make each day a comfortable learning enviroment for the student and the parent. Holsenbeck incourages parents to be involved in all aspects of our childrens learning experience. Great PTO staff and super parent support . Holsenbeck works to have availible work shops for parent and student together, after school activities with our PTO with school PRIDE.I look forward to see what the years to come hold .I truly feel WE are all in this together and the best intrerest in our children's future is off to a great start with Holsenbeck. Thank you for your support.
both my boys have attented k -3 so far and so far so good i love this school
My daughter has had a wonderful Kindergarten experience at Holsenbeck. The administration and staff are extremely professional and nurturing. I am an educator myself and chose this school for my daughter based on the positive learning environment that the school upholds.
My daughter attended Holsenbeck her first year of school and we loved it. Her teacher was wonderful (Mrs. Nunnally). I'm not so sure if it was the school that impressed me, but the teachers most defintly!
My stepson is a student in 5th grade at Holsenbeck. He has been there since kindergarten, and I have been involved with him and his education for about 2 years now. Since I have been involved with his education, I have been appalled at the lack of concern expressed by the faculty of this school from teachers to administrators. No matter what problems he has with reading, math or anything else, their typical response is 'Don't worry, we'll have him ready to make a good score on the CRCT.' I couldn't care less about the CRCT.....I just want my stepson to be taught the fundamentals he needs in elementary school......the test will then take care of itself.....We as parents are both disgusted at the performance of the people at this school.....and don't try to talk to the administration....all they want to do is cover for the teachers......Pathetic.
I expected more. My children have attended Holsenbeck since Pre-K and one of the reasons that I moved my family to this area was the that the schools were suppose to be really good. This is your average southern small town school with a kind and sometimes-effective teacher to be had. The principal runs a very tight ship but it s behind the times when it comes to dealing with current and emerging social issues. Support for the Hispanic community is strongly lacking at Holsenbeck. My partner and I feel that there is to much time spent cramming so the students do well in on the CRC test and that this eats away time that could be better spent actually learning. I honestly get the feeling that all the teachers at Holsenbeck would go the extra mile for their students. Dialogue between parents and the teacher is key for success at this school.
I am the parent of a third grader and a kindergarten student. I have been very happy with my experiences at Holsenbeck Elementary. I feel that the Principal and the Asst. Principal both have open door policies and I feel comfortable approaching them. The teacher's that I have had experience with all seem to love the students and enjoy teaching. I would like to see some additional extracurricular activites added to the opportunities that are already available. I think that our school and students would greatly benefit from a Spanish Club. I would also like to see greater parent involvement in the school and with the students. I feel that the staff are always looking for ways to make our children safer while they are at school.
My daughter has attended HES since her days in preK. This is a loving learning place committed to the education of all students. My daughter has had a variety of teachers and has learned many lessons: those taught in the classroom as well as those taught outside the classroom. My daughter is in a loving, safe environment. The teachers and the leadership are open to discussions, emails, and phone calls. I have nothing buy positive words for this faculty and staff.
After two years, we have pulled our daughter from Holsenbeck due to concerns over discipline and the obvious lack of leadership at the highest level. The teachers are wonderful, yet the lack of quaity leadership in the front office is of great concern. Safety continues to be a major problem especially n the lower grades and the after-school program! We will now gladly pay for private schooling in the area where we know our daughter will be safe and free to focus on learning
I have one child at Holsenbeck. We have had several run-ins with the staff over Safety Concerns (ie.. doors not being locked, passes given out, etc...) The Teachers and Staff are very friendly and expect alot from their students. My 2nd grader comes home with about 30min of homework. He tested into the gifted program last spring and goes to speech twice a week. Everyone seems to be on our side-- IF you need a conference= they are willing to sit down with you.
