INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

It's always scary to send your child off to school and trust them with strangers and hope they treat your child as a individual and to make sure their needs are being met and that it's the beginning of great school memories. My son started 1st grade last year at Bascomb . 1st grade he had Laura Wagner and she really helped him in so many ways.... He loves her. This year he has Donna Mihal. She has been wonderful as well and pushed to get him tested the gifted class. ( Thanks you Donna Mihal) So now he is a part of the AIM program and that teacher is Dianne McClure so far he is loving her class... They are always available by email to help us parents. I feel the teachers and staff watch over the kids like they were their own children. All the staff there has always been great to work with and most of all my son along with all of his friends he has at school always walks out at the end of the day with a smile on their faces. They have made the start of his education a wonderful one. Thanks to all the staff.....

We have had a horrible experience at this school. The principal is absolutely terrible at her job and is mean spirited. She is not kind and doesn't have students and families best interest in mind. She discredits parents voice of concern for their children and is more like Miss Harridan (from Daddy Daycare) than the caring real life principal she should be. What a disgrace...these children are in elementary school, not college.

Both of my sons went to Bascomb. If I were rating the school only on our time with our eldest son who finished 4th grade at Bascomb in 2011, I would give the school 5 stars. He tests very highly on the State required standardized testing and he is in the gifted program. All of his teachers K-4th grades were wonderful with him, particularly Mrs. Lord. In short, he's easy and he flew threw with flying colors. His brother, while still a bright child, had not been identified for the gifted program and in 3rd grade it was even recommended that he need extra help via the EIP program. We refused the program. At the end of 3rd grade he was tested through CRCT and far and away exceeded the standards in every category including reading. The point is this. The school caters beautifully to the easy, gifted kids. The kids that require a little teaching and patience seem to be stuck with the reputably more rigid teachers. This does nothing to groom them for a love of learning. Additionally, for two years in a row, in Kindergarten and 1st grade, my youngest had teachers who were out on Maternity Leave for the first 8-12 weeks of school. This added to the difficulty of transitioning into school.

I recently attended the Kindergarten orientation at Bascomb for the 2011-12 school year. The administration did a wonderful job organizing the crowd of (my estimate) 100 parents for the incoming K class of approximately 130. Each of the 6 K teachers was present as well as both VP's and the Principal. They were all focused and determined to give us all the information we needed to feel secure in our child's education. It was amazing to me that Ms. Flowers (Principal) was still visibly moved and very emotional about the children even after all the years she has been teaching. THIS is the first sign of a great school....a Principal who is emotionally moved by thoughts of her student's well-being and serious about their academic advancement.

My daughter just started first grade, but we have nothing bad to say about this school! Her teacher last year was incredible, the after school clubs and programs are top-of-the-line, the staff and faculty are accessible, the curriculum so far has been fun but also strong. So far she loves her new teacher and class, and we are completely thrilled with the school! They really do a great job of involving the parents, too. I feel like I know what's going on and have lots of opportunities to volunteer!

Its such a great school, great staff and teachers! Its such a close family atmosphere with other parents as well. I'm shocked at how much my son has learned that not other schools teach.

We LOVE this school. The teachers and administration are incredible. They work so hard to make it a positive learning experience for the children. They make each child feel unique and special and they will even match the personality of your child to that of a teacher if you request. Incredible!!! Don't look elsewhere.

Fantastic school! We have three children currently at Bascomb our 4th grader has been there since Kindergarten. The teachers have all be superb deeply caring and impressive - we haven't had one we didn't like yet. Parent involvement is expected seems like we are at the school in some capacity every couple of days.

My daughter has been at Bascomb for 3 years and it is a wonderful school. Tons of Parent Involvement, Very Attentive Teachers, Loads of extra-curricular activities. The teachers do push the kids to learn and score well on their tests but the kids do benefit and have fun while learning.

My daughter is in kindergarten this year and she has learned so much. We have found the teachers have very high expectations, while maintaining an understanding of each childs level and abilities. My child had truly enjoyed her first year at school and I hope this will set the tone for the rest of her years at Bascomb and beyond.

So far 2 of my 3 children have attended Bascomb and I could not ask for a better experience. The teachers have been fabulous and they strongly encourage parental involvement. As far as quality of education goes, I had a friend move here from a different city where she had her child in a top notch private school and said that Bascomb was as good, if not better, than the private school her daughter attended.

We moved here a few months before school ended during my sons third grade year. He has just completed fourth grade and I never met the principal. The person I believe to be the principal never introduced herself at school functions so one was left to wonder who was speaking. She is retiring so I think it will be a great thing. What made the negative experiences disappear was the fact that we had one of the best teachers I have ever encountered. I have children from high school down to elementary so I speak from experience that Mrs. Destino is a one of a kind teacher. Parental involvement is phenomenal. That is one of the things that makes this a great school.

My oldest son has attended Bascomb for all five years and we have had a good experience. Although Bascomb does have some areas of improvement, our overall experience has been positive. All three of my children attend Bascomb. My Kindergartner's teacher Mrs. Morris and Para Pro Mrs. Hayes are incredible. They incorporate music and fun into learning. He also attends IEP with Ms. Lago who enjoys her students as much as they enjoy her. Mrs. Kiel, a 1st grade teacher for my daughter, provides a challenging but fun curriculum. My 4th grader has a new teacher, Mrs. Robinson who gels very well with the school. She can teach at the appropriate levels to all her students, which is diverse. The AIM teachers are exceptional and do not give excessive projects. Bascomb has the best teachers, administration, custodians and lunchroom staff. The PTA is awesome!

We moved here from FL expecting a better learning environment for our children. My son has gone from having a very positive attitude towards school and straight A's to actually hating it because of his teacher. We found the teacher to be cold and dismissive and the administration to be non-approachable. We have sold our house and moved to another school district in another county. Parents beware, test scores are not everything which is the bottom line for this school. Anthony Castro

My granddaughter has attended Bascomb for the first time this year and has truly enjoyed it. She has participated in the ASP program, basketball, the Mathaton, just to name a few. Ms. Brown has a way of challenging her and in turn she absolutely enjoys going to school each day. She is an avid reader, therefore the Media center is a favorite place to be. I am thrilled to know that she is in a school that teaches and challenges the students to be better and learn about the world around them. Keep up the good work Bascomb as I know it starts from upper management and comes down the chain to have achieved the accomplisments that have been rewarded thus far. Thanks to all.. Debbie Sasser

This is the first year that my son has attended Bascomb and I could not be happier. He has speech twice a week and sees a resource teacher everyday. The special ed department is such a wonderful, caring group of people. They work very hard to provide your child with what they need. My son's kindergarten teacher is a godsend. She is fantastic with her class. Tons of parental involvement, school activities, etc. The hallways are lined with artwork and projects. We are moving out of state and I am going to have a tough time finding a school to match Bascomb.
