I just would like to point out that it is NOT IMpossible to get into Kamehameha. There are a lot of things to go through and the test may be somewhat difficult, but the reason for that is because they [Kamehameha] want students that are serious about their education. Thoughout my years attending students have been let go& requested to leave. I got in at 6th grade and am now a Junior. The classe size are around 20ish students per class. Yes the curriculum is English, but that's because that's what the majority of America speaks. Hawaiian language is readily availabe to those wanting to learn, I'm in my 3rd year of hawaiian language. We also have hula classes(9-12), hawaiian history(12) and a basic hawaiian class (9). Kamehameha has a rather heavy academic load, but that's because it's a College Prep school.

It is basically impossible to get into this school. They claim that native Hawaiian children are prefered but in reality it's a exclusive restriction rather than a preference. If you don't have Hawaiian blood, you just won't be accepted. That alone is enough reason for me to not send my kids there, despite the fact that they do have Hawaiian ancestry. Also the admissions test is VERY difficult. The classes aren't small either so if you want to put your child who is a bit slow or has a learning disability in private school so they can improve, Kamehameha is not the school you're looking for. While they offer Hawaiian programs the curriculum is still in English. I recommend Ke Kula O Nawahiokalaniopuu Iki
