This school offers what all children need - respect for others, self, and the earth combined with academics and beauty. Since the teachers remain with their students for years, they have a good understanding of how to motivate them and bring out their best attributes. It's a wonderful experience to be a student here!
Kona Pacific offers children a Waldorf-inspired education. This education is based on arts and culture. The school is situated on more than 20 acres of land, lending itself to bamboo forest exploration, forest walks and hikes, individual and group gardening on the property, a stage for theater projects, a large field for archery and after school volleyball. Computer technology is not stressed in this school, finding a love of learning and wonder is. Kids are able to go at their own pace and can find joy in school this way. The curriculum has children building, designing, singing, dancing and creating while they showcase their efforts at a variety of school wide festivals. It is a magic place for children to learn about Hawaiian culture and respect for the land, they chant every morning and understand about working the land for food and pleasure. The students have many opportunities to learn to work together on large projects and learn real world skills. We have been part of this school for over three years and my kids love going there.
I've been in this school for 4 years and graduated from 8th grade this year! In my opinion I absolutely love this school, it's the best school I've gone to in Hawaii (and I've been to many schools here.) The curriculum is great, ive learned to knit, garden, chant, canoe, hula dance, play the ukulele and most importantly respect the Aina. The food got better, the teachers and staff have a great temper and always bring a smile to everyone with respect, along with the students. Yes, there has been some ups and downs but at the end every turns out great! I love this school :)
