This is an average school, the report of 16 students per teacher is very misleading as most have 20 or more students. Grades are K-6 with Head Start Preschool using one of the buildings. Speaking of buildings they are constructing a new two-story bldg behind "I" - it should be ready for use by mid- 2014. They had an excellent principal but due to some false complaints last year, he is currently out- teachers and students alike want him back ASAP as the current "acting principal" has no experience what so ever, having only been a VP & doesn't even know what "N.C.L.B." means. The two remaining VPs are doing all the real work to keep the school afloat in spirit along with 2 remaining office personnel. I hope for the sake of the staff & children they replace him with the original. There is a lot of work to get back to the lessons of teaching to learn rather then to the tests and the teachers and staff take their jobs seriously, helping after school and on their own time. They are very devoted to the mantra of learning should be fun, important, and something everyone young and old should strive for throughout their entire life.
I am also a former student of Waipahu Elementary School, from Kindergarden to grade six. I'm now in 8th grade at Kapolei. The teachers are supportive and awesome in every way they teach. Along with feild trips, they are fun and exciting, but eduactional at the same time. Waipahu Elementary welcomes students who are new so that they don't feel out of place or alone. There are many extracurricular activities too.I joined Hula, Basketball, and Student Council. They also have tutoring afterschool to help your child with school work.I enjoyed Waipahu Elementary School alot, so I hope Parents consider this wonderful school.
I am a former student of Waipahu Elementary School, from grade two until grade six. I'm now a 9th grader at California, but I still miss this wonderful school. Teachers here are supportive, and students can have fun one way or another, through learning. Students are given a lot of field trips, which I'm sure they enjoy, and each trip is educational and teaches them important lessons in life. The environment of Waipahu Elem. is calm, so new students won't feel awkward and alone in their first few days. I hope parents consider this great school.
