Should teens have a say in the high schools they attend?

In my experience, yes, with some caveats. High schoolers are hard enough to motivate so if they're in a place that makes them eager to get up in the morning and go to school, you've won half the battle.

However, if the choice is inappropriate (too expensive, too far away, differs from the family's philosophy), some negotiation and discussion has to follow.

I let my son choose his middle and high school (although they were high on my list as well), and I never regretted letting have his say.
