Good HS and Good neighborhoods

I am moving to Charlotte with my son in June. He will be in the 9th grade at the beginning of the school year. I am looking for a very good high school for him to attend. I have looked at the houses in the providence school area and cannot afford them. He is a straight A student and an Academically and Intellectually Gifted student. I just want a good school that would challenge him. I am also looking for a nice 3 bedroom house to rent. Any suggestions or recommendations on the schools and neighborhoods would be appreciated. Have you talked to a real estate professional? They are a great resource in matching families with their needs--schools and neighborhoods with the amenities those families need.
Also talk to the HR department where you will be working. They can help by putting you in touch with families at work with kids the same ages as yours. They can point out commute times and which schools that work for them.
