This is the first year my daughter has attended High School and she just loves Lake City. The relationship between the teachers and the students is positive and upbeat and her classes are challenging for a public school. I think classes are what you make of them. If your son or daughter wants to learn they will get a great education.
The fact that this can even been considered a school is a joke. There is very little focus on the academic needs of the students vs just passing them. My child regularly has the opportunity to get extra credit for such non grade related things like not using his hallway passes or bringing gifts (coffee) to the teacher. The school is willing to let students perform to the lowest possible standards. My child received a D- in a class where the grade scores averged out to less than a 50. When I was in school that was failing.
I graduated from Lake City this last June, and it sounds like it has improved astronomically since these people wrote reviews (all of them are long gone from the school anyway). The books are all new, or at least fairly new, and the teachers are excellent. The administration has its ups and downs, but it is more a central office problem. I am glad to have graduated from such a school as this, and I hope it only gets better. :) ~A. S.
I am a graduate of Lake City (2005) and I think there is more the school can do. They only support sports, more time, energy and money go to support the sports program and students then students that are actually learning
I'm a Lake City High School Senior and I think that the school has alot to offer to everyone. I think High School is hard for everyone, but the students are so diverse and the staff really do a good job at the beginning of the school year introducing people to one another, overall, LC is an alright school with an awesome counseling staff. -mm
the sport program has nothing to do with the inability to recieve newer books. everyone assumes that sports gets all the money when parents fund a good 45-75% of it. i think parents get jealous because sports out rule the clubs but you have to ask yourself if anyone really cares about drama and who really wants to know who can imitate jim carrey the best. lc is awesome in all aspects except for the administration, they could use some help!
The sports at LCHS are a big part of the school setting and I, as a former student at the school, loved all the support that was shown towards the athletic teams. Maybe if the teams were not very successful it would be a different story, but they are and that is what makes it so fun; it's a great way for students to come together. But if you don't want to then just let the others who love the sports have their fun and enjoy what LCHS has to offer. It really is a great place, with great staff. The administrators could definitely be better however.
I went to LCHS a few years ago and it was the best school I have ever been in. The staff was great. Sure there could be a few improvements, but what school doesnt need them.
Lake City High School has the worst administration team of any school I have ever seen. The principle does not listen to students and does not handle problems well at all. A school needs to be a safe place where kids feel comfortable. My daughter does not feel comfortable at this school at all. She always tells me how she can't talk to the administration about anything because they don't believe her or they tell the person what she says. When students feel threatened by other students, the administration, especially the principle, she take that very seriously and not make the prblem worse. I think the administation at this school needs to be reconsidered.
I have been happy with LCHS. However, there seems to be a big division between student groups with an emphasis on sports. I would like to see more enrichment and after school activities for all students interests. All students need to feel they have the opportunity to be involved in their school community.
