I am the parent of a disabled student at Basin Elementary. My child has continually been harassed and bullied by fellow students and although I have brought this to the attention of school staff numerous times, they continue to fail to address the issue in any way. Not only do they not address bullying, but it has become quite evident that this particular school really has no idea how to work with a learning disability. It has also become clear that in this school, children that are native to this community are treated very differently than those who are not. Please consider what I have said before moving your student to this school district. I have no other option but to move my family out of this community and hope that time can help repair the damage to my child's emotional well-being that this school's lack of concern has caused.
I have two children enrolled at this school, one in 3rd and one in 4th grade. I love this school! We moved to this area from AZ and there is just no comparison! The enrichment programs at Basin ensure that my kids are getting the education I expect and they deserve. I could not possibly list all of the many reasons that this school is superior. I would, however, recommend this school to anyone.
I attended schools in the Basin School District Kindergarten through 12th grade. I am now going to be attending American University, Washington College of Law. Everything I have learned in this small school district has been helpful in my journey. The size of the schools makes an impact in that there is more one-on-one time with teachers and students. They made me feel important--not just a number. This gave me the confidence and self-esteem to accomplish all I have thus far. I thank all of the teachers who taught me how to read, add/subtract/multiply/divide AND use a calculator (we all know in the REAL world you need to know how to use one! Doing math in your head is so overrated), dissect fetal pigs, speak french, study, use humor in appropriate contexts, and socialize. Without these skills, I would not be the person I am today. So thank you.
I like this school but I think we need to consentrate on the basics of school and not how fast they can read. Teachers need to keep parents informed what there kids need help in and not at the end of the year. This school is great in alot of areas but we need to focus on the kids and not how much work they get done but if they understand it or not and teachers might to help them one on one.
I love this small elementary school. The classes are appropriately staffed, my children get a good education, and I feel involved in many decisions at the school concerning the kids.
