Not a great experience for our daughter. Office staff are rude and abrupt, especially to non-English parents and children.

This is our second year at Horizon and although First Grade is was a better experience then Kindergarten, we have many concerns. Our first concern is that the Front Office personell are very rude. Our daughter had a wonderful first Grade teacher, but the Kindergarten Center is a mess. The Lunch program at Horizon is not very nutritious and has alot of fat and calories and is just plain not healthy. I wish the principal was more in charge of the school. It's very frustrating as a parent to communicate with school at all.

This school is what Jerome feels it has to brag about but it leaves a lot to be desired. It does have a nice building and grounds but when it comes to the education they leave much to be desired. my son is a very bright child with special needs and this school was not there to provide any of them. We worked with this school for years to get the services my son needed and they were totally unwilling to provide them for him. They find that the way to deal with kids who have special or extra needs is to transfer them out. My son was denied assistive technologies for 3 years and when we found out that this was something that was not a cost to the school they decided he would have to go to another school. New building nothing new for this district.

The teachers are excellent, however there is room for improvement for the vice principal and some of the office staff. The school is also nicely maintained and class size seems appropriate.

About the tests

In 2010-2011 Idaho used the Idaho Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 in reading, math and language usage, and in grades 5, 7 and 10 in science. The scores from the spring administration are displayed on GreatSchools profiles. The grade 10 ISAT is a high school graduation requirement. The ISAT is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering the specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Idaho. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.
